disney just called;error in their system

I understand your frustration, and I would be upset as well. It is their error and they should have to correct it. I would stand my ground too, and get as much as I could. However, there are things to consider.

1. Unfortunately they don't have to even offer you a peferred room. The fine print says in the event a resort is overbooked you will be moved to a room of greater or equal value. And that is what they have done.

2. If this mistake really involves over a hundred people, they may not be able to upgrade you to a moderate or deluxe. This close to travel time they could be booked.

All that being said though, I would try to milk them some more and then I would ask for other things like front of the line passes, upgraded park tickets, additional days or ask them to upgrafe your dining plan. All the things I said won't cost them a penny and they are more likely to accommodate. My wife and I got stuck on splash mountain for an hour and 45 min three years ago, were yelled at as we evacuated and then all they gave me was a fp to be used the next day. At gs they gave us 3 each. Then when I asked if he could do anything else and then requested a free park ticket for another day, he did it. 2 ph tickets that didn't expire for 30 years. We will be using them this year.

Anyway I know it stinks but you won't have a worse time as the resorts just really aren't that different, plus you are not going for the hotel anyway. Get the pv and ask to be placed near the main building so you'll be closer to the bus stop or by the pool if you rather. Enjoy your trip.

Expecting a hand out from the government is entitlement. Expecting what you paid and worked for is not entitlement. Most companies will compensate for an error its called customer service so the customer will come back and spend more money.

frustrated with this thread!:goodvibes

Thank you Catrax! I have scoured all 20 pages of this thread and have found almost no solid information on this since the 1st page except that one couple was upgraded to the SSR. Everyone is posting opinions but no one has solid facts about what is really happening. My daughter and I are going on the 17th. She is a vegetarian and the Pop food court just has so many more options for her than the AllStars - having to change would be a real problem.

Bimmy56 - Go ahead and call Pop - the number is on the facts page on all ears. They were very nice and confirmed - who knows if things will change when I get there, but at least between now and Tuesday I can worry about packing!

I'd call them back and tell them to upgrade to standard view at a mod for the inconvenience.

that say not all that happy with SSR. you can walk over to DD from SSR and you certainly can't find any of the value resorts. SSR bus system is strange. when I was there the buses HAD to stop at every bus stop - no matter what.
during the day not a big problem - but when the parks were closed and the man still had to stop at bus stops that were empty instead of driving us to our stop immediately. Well it is silly.

Disney needs to change that system.
Well, no, they don't. Most public bus systems have mandatory stops and flexible stops. They must stop at the mandatory stops; if you look at a printed bus schedule, these are the printed times/locations. A good example is the 111 Lynx bus between MCO and Walt Disney World. It has five scheduled stops along with times, and then states the bus stops about every two blocks along the route.

Because WDW's bus routes are shorter, they have JUST the mandatory stops (and no printed schedule. This means they have to stop at, yes, each bus stop every time. Or would you like to be the passenger who dozed off or just wasn't paying attention and forgot to get off at the Springs because the driver didn't stop because nobody was waiting to board, and had to ride a FULL circuit on that bus... wherever it might be routed, even though that's likely NOT back to SSR?

fourth - love the pools at Pop. the pools have steps all the way around. the lifeguards are the best at Disney. they watch the little ones carefully.
Because the parents are...? :confused3

Respectfully, SSR doesn't have a Food Court. They do have a quite nice Counter Service Restaurant - Artist's Pallette. While many items/sandwiches are made up already, many, many more are made to order. Trust me, I've stayed here 5 times in the last 18 months and I tend to special order more often than not.

believe me - my allergies pepper (this is the big one here), rye, oats, barkley, pork. fish, most vegetables (although can have lettuce - if NO dressing) again problem here.

got told to go to DD because of my problems. there after trying several restuarants - went to MacDonald because of my allergies. there at least could get something made from scatch. Now that is gone. spend about 2 hours trying to find something to eat. Oh - could have done a hamburger at Rain Forest too - but again too expensive.

the counter service can't help everyone. and since this is a DVC - it should be able to help everyone. Which is why they tell me to go visit their restuarant.

which is not fair.

Um, those are all nice suggestions, but they do cost the company - and its owners, i.e. shareholder, i.e. including some DISers, money - at least from an accounting standpoint. Well, except the front of the line passes, but those don't exist.

To the OP, please do a trip report, with lots of photos.

I need them like vampires need, ....whatever they need. And especially now that we all have an interest in your accommodations, you owe us ;)

That's actually not Pop Century; it's the Resorts Call Center, where the CMs answer the phone as if you're calling the resort. It's for efficiency.

I'd call them back and tell them to upgrade to standard view at a mod for the inconvenience.
This has been stated several times already in this thread, but there are no rooms available for Guests checking in Sunday or Monday, except possibly at SSR. Nobody can be moved to an already-occupied room.

The OP was getting what they worked and paid for. A room at a Value resort. Now Disney has been generous and upgraded them, so it seems to all be ok with the OP. But I don't get the cry and the taking up of pitchforks over being moved from one Value to another. It is not like they were trying to downgrade the OP.

I do understand being unhappy about it. But I don't see how only an upgrade to a supposedly nicer resort is the only thing that will do.

I also think the people who make comments about milking a business for whatever it is worth, must not have any understanding of what it is like to own or run a business. And don't understand that in the long run that when a busines gives freebies and upgrades away, that we are the ones paying for them. The business will not absorb the loss. They will simply pass it on to the rest of the customers. Kind of like the hike in park passes Disney just implemented.

I've tried to get moved from the All Stars, but had no luck. I even sited examples of people on the Dis boards who were moved to other resorts and I was told that "those people shouldn't have said anything because they aren't telling you the whole story." I guess some people were moved to nicer places because of health reasons???:confused3 Makes no sense to me. The last guy I spoke with wasn't very nice, I guess he's out of pixie dust. I didn't even want an upgrade, I just wanted to stay at POP.:sad1:

I have to go wash this bitter taste out of my mouth. After all, I'm going to Disney in 3 days!!! :thumbsup2 Best of luck to everyone who is still dealing with their room changes! :grouphug:

There was your mistake...you should NEVER cite what others have gotten or not. Doing that turns you into a difficult guest and so most likely you aren't going to get anything close to what the OP did. The difference between her and many others on this thread is that she kept her cool, empathized with the whole situation and the castmember being flung into it, and let them come up with a solution. The moment you make up your own solution is the moment you lose. :sad2: You cooperate and you will get rewarded - you are difficult and you will probably stay at POP or All Star and another grateful guest will get the upgrade. I only wowed the guests that appreciated it. All others got the minimum and I am sure things haven't changed in that department. It is amazing how far being nice and not demanding gets you not only at Disney but anywhere.

sounds like this thread needs to be closed now before it gets worse....the situation was resolved and Disney only followed policy and everyone has there own opnions and reactions to changes which means there will never be a conculsion as to what should have/ could have/ would have done.[/QUOTE

I SO dislike it when a poster tries to tell the moderaters whe to close a thread! if it bothers you, don't read it anymore. if this one had been closed when thisposter said so (even though this was not the OP) the OP would not have gottne the cheers from others, the advice about SSR, the links to pictures, or the chance to respond.
I'm not sure why I feel this way, but I feel so relieved that this situation was handled in a positive way by Disney. When I book a trip with Disney, I am trusting them to uphold their end of the bargain and this story was disheartening to me. Congratulations OP!

:thumbsup2 yeah, I'm not sure why either.. I guess it's because we all want justice (NOT "entitlement"). just like the way kids in a classroom really want "order" and want to see wrongs righted, we all like to see justice prevail.

as an American citizen and a VFW member and employee, THANK YOU to your husband for his service.

as a disney lover and disser: congrats! I'm happy you're happy . enjoy your trip and ssr!:dance3:

oh yeah! like you don't have enough to do right before your trip:

make sure to make ADRS for sit down restaurants now!

I'm less than halfway through this thread but want to throw my .02 in...

Yes, I would be bummed, ok, probably pissed, if this happened to me. However, if it IS true this is affecting 400 rooms, is it possible they can't fit all those people at their other hotels?

For those of you who say those bumped are entitled to more they paid for, did you consider if you don't "stand your ground" or you "accept no for an answer" that MAYBE on checkin, they will find their "gift"? Sure, maybe there's not a higher class room, but they go to checkin and "Here are extra FP's for your party!" Or "Here's a $100 Disney gift card!"

If POP & it's theming is that important to you, then moving to ANY other hotel (value, moderate, deluxe, or DVC) shouldn't be accepted either, right?

As far as what I would do... go to Disney's website, do a search for your time frame and the number in your party. Find a hotel that fits. Call Disney and say "I just checked your website and saw CBR had a room available. I'm sure you can't upgrade the entire cost, but how about splitting it?"

Offer what you're willing to accept but be reasonable. Above all, be COURTEOUS!

why are you comparing a public system to a private one. they can't compare at all.

secondly most of the bus drivers - especially when the parks are closed - check (or should check) their buses before they leave the resort to go where they are next assigned.

been on SSR and OKW a couple of times at closing - and there were some guests do did not where they were staying. some even argued with the bus driver - but at both places because DVC go often enough that they generally know the place - were there to help.

in the old days before Disney new system. the bus driver when leaving the parks (remember all the parks are closed only DD is open) -would ask where everyone was going. If only one or two stops that is all he would make.

this system to me is much better, everyone is tired at night - and the sooner you get back to your room the better for everyone. to have the bus driver follow this silly rule even when everything is closed. Is silly.

now the opposite happens to us - once the bus driver after only stopings at 2 stops before she decided to leave. when I said something - 2 other people were telling me to be quiet. Guess they did not want to be at my resort and got on the wrong bus. she did turn around the bus and went back to SSR and finished delivering SSR guest before going to where ever these guest wanted to go.

just last month, the bus driver asked if anyone was going to BB. no one was, so we skipped it.

Yea, that was pointed out after I posted. I just now finished the thread.:rotfl:

Congrats to the OP. I agree with those who've said the way she handled herself got her the upgrade.

IMO, those bumped are not ENTITLED to an upgrade. You don't have to accept what they offer, but you better understand going in that if you threaten to stay off site, they may call you on.

Sorry to hear this happened to the OP and others :( . I can totally understand why you are upset.

I also agree the server overheat issue is a lie. I am a Disneyholic and am really disappointed they came up with this ridiculous excuse. I worked with computers and servers. A big company like Disney has backup servers if one overheats. They should come up with a more believable excuse.

It could possibly have been a database server or something similar.
