I heard Disney is going to build South of Dallas Texas, is this true?

This crazy rumor is at it again. Why would Disney spend billions on a park in Texas? Besides, WDW has said they are only looking to build new parks overseas.

What's wrong with Texas? :confused3

pospisil, please understand that rumors of new Disney park locations have popped up many, many, many times, and regarding Texas in particular, for several years, and nothing has come of it. So, until somebody actually has some meaningful info, we tend to be dismissive of it. What exactly did you hear, and from whom?

Oh, I don't believe at all that they are going to build a park in Texas! I'm not the OP. I just wondered why Texas would be dismissed out of hand "Why would Disney spend billions on a park in Texas? ". There's nothing wrong with Texas.

It doesn't have anything to do with Texas, as a state at least not from my view. It has to do with the rumor and how long it has been floating around. Texas doesn't make sense because building another "theme park" driven location in another sunny state doesn't jive with the current expressed business plan. But that deosn't mean there isn't something else, somewhere else that fits

If Disney ever wants to build a third destination resort in the United States, then Texas is probably the best state in which to put it. There are parts of Texas with a climate that's not much worse than Orlando, making all-year operations possible. And Texas has a large and growing population, not unlike California a few decades ago, providing the possibility of a lot of local guests.

That said, there have been dozens of rumors over dozens of years that Disney has bought this site or that site in various locations throughout Texas. None of these rumors has ever turned into a real announcement.

Until Disney management feels that a third destination resort in the United States will result in considerable net new business (rather than just cannibalizing Florida's WDW and California's DLR), I expect any new Disney destination resorts to be overseas.

(and this is all third, fourth and fifth hand info) is that (like on the eastern shore), Disney has land purchase options available north of Dallas, but that they have never been able to reach an agreement with the state on tax issues. Again, just further grist for the mill, nothing concrete.

Now thats a loaded question. (Insert George Bush joke here)

Texas does make more sense than other UD places that get bandied about like the Carolinas, but it will be a awhile before Disney builds another park in the US

Hey, now, don't judge us all by HIM! Most of us can actually, um, how best to phrase this, THINK. :lmao: Besides, he wasn't born here, you know, he's a transplant! ;)

Disney? Rumor has it it will be next to thr new International Airport in North Florida. 55,000 acres ready to build The City Of Tomorrow.

But he sure picked up the accent! Funny when you listen to him an his father talking together...:confused3

I agree with all the others what is wrong with Texas? LoL I think it would be GREAT for Disney to be in Texas. I think it would be great to put a Disney in Texas think about it...halfway between Cali and FL. I'm all for the not far from Dallas part FOR SURE (I'd be in heaven, along with a million other people). I do believe that the rumor (unfortunately) is false though. I gotta spill though...many rumors (not so much Disney) but at Six Flags (ex-employee) stating Disney might buy them out. From what I've heard from friends that still work there SFOT is going Disney style and not to mention the new guy that came in use to work for ESPN &/or Disney. (Yes I know ESPN is Disney but I meant DISNEY corporate). I went before they closed for the season and when I worked there in 2005 there wasn't a single hint of Disney in that park....now A WHOLE AREA of Disney stuff in one of the stores. Right after this guy comes in...not to mention the new parade, signs like Disney, and again the guy??? :scratchin You never know. For me I'm keeping the fingers crossed that one day they buy out SFOT and that I will have a Disney closer then ever to enjoy. I'd be in Heaven for sure.... :goodvibes

I'd LOVE for them to add something in Texas b/c I go to school really close to where Disney owns land ;)

It will never happen of course. I'm not that lucky!

It can't be as bad as Paris and they built "something" that resembles a park there.

You know, I remember going to Six Flags Over Texas about 20 (or more) years ago. At that time, it was a lot closer (no, I'm not trying to really say it had the same things, but it was a lot closer) to a Disney park than the current one is. That is, it had lands with attractions that fit a lot closer to the theme of the lands. There was at least a coherent theme that you felt all the way through the park - you actually felt a (remote) connection to the influences on Texas as you went through the park. Over time, though, they lost this - started putting in different types of attractions, removing shows and small details, taking away the lands and theming, going for the latest and greatest coaster, with only minimal theming. Now, it resembles nothing like what it once was. I still enjoy going (I love roller coasters), but as far as any of the sense of theme that Disney has, it has really gone down from what it once was. It's a great example of how slow steady cuts/compromises can ruin an idea.

Really, I can't see any reason why Disney would want to buy Six Flags. They don't need the land in Texas (even were they to build a Texas park, they'd want much more land), much less parks all over the place to operate. They'd be unable to reuse most of the major attractions without major renovations (or a marked decline from even the already lower Disney standards). Plus, I though that the Six Flags corporation had tons of debt, which I doubt Disney would be wanting to assume.

I do hope the Six Flags chain turns around a bit - that would be nice on its own. But, I wouldn't expect any Disney corporate takeover anytime soon.

I agree that Disney wont buy out the Six Flags but I hope if they put a park in Texas that it's about that same distance. LoL Six Flags does have too many problems to be a Disney park but hey you never know. As long as it's close I'll be happy.
