Disney Gift Card Deals

Same here! I bought $1,000 worth of Sears gift cards with credit cards. Now, watch me get stuck with these if Sears and/or Kmart won't let me use them towards Disney Gift cards!

Well, you can sell them on cardpool or raise.com and probably make a profit. Or use them to buy Christmas gifts this year.

The last Sears I went to was out of disney gift cards, but the lady told me that you CAN use Sears gift cards to buy other gift cards.

I'm at Sears right now at Washington Square mall and finally found the Disney gift cards but they won't ring them up because they say store policy is not to allow purchase of gift cards with a gift card. Even though they know the system will allow it. My son's on the phone with Sears now to confirm the policy. Basically they're saying each manager can make their own policy decisions but there's no official against it. He's now on hold while customer support calls the store to talk to the manager. Keeping my fingers crossed.

After a long time on the phone with Sears customer service we were told that each manager is allowed to set their own policies. We're heading to another mall to see if they'll do something different. Not too confident at this point. Soured me on Sears as company.

Hope you had better luck at the 2nd Sears store!

Unfortunately no luck. The didn't have any Disney gift cards and we searched the entire store. Not sure if they would have let us anyway. I guess we'll use the Sears gift cards for a new garage opener, or we'll vacation at Sears instead of Disney next year.

I have been calling all local sears and kmarts within a 2 hour drive. Most said they didnt have any Disney gc or only a few hundred dollars. Today we went to the closest kmart, that told us they had around $300 and we found $1250 in Disney gc there. We used our Sears card and bought them all. They did allow us to use an old kmart gift card we had towards the balance too. They offered to order the remaining amount we are wanting to purchase. The only think I dont like is 1. It didnt add any SYW rewards points to our account, I was told by multiple SYW and kmart employees that it would. and 2. I was told we can not use SYW rewards to purchase gc. Does anyone know about either of these? DH will call about the points tomorrow, but Im curious if others have had points added?

Did you use your sears credit card, or the sears gc purchased at a discount like others mentioned?

It seems that gift card purchases do not give you SYW points, according to the terms of service: http://www.shopyourway.com/sywr-terms-of-service.
That also states you cannot use points for purchasing gift cards.

I've been buying at SAMs club, 2@ $142.88 for three $50. I know they had $300 packs, but I didn't find any. It was nice to pay off the event tickets and enough for a few meals for the two of us.

When is your trip? Can you wait awhile and see if they restock? I would try again later. You might have better luck with a different cashier. Or maybe try at Kmart again. I wouldn't give up!

STOP CALLING, PEOPLE! What do you expect; them to come out with a statement that it is allowed? No, they'll make a corporate policy that prohibits it, and reprogram their registers. This is how the Target deal died. Please stop calling.

We actually didn't call at first. We went to the store, picked up the cards and headed to the register. As soon as the cashier saw our Sears gift cards she told us that we couldn't use them to buy gift cards. We politely asked if she would just try to ring them up and see if the system would take them. She admitted that the system would allow it, but it was store policy not to do it and she would have to call a manager. The manager came over and stood firm in her resolve not to let us. We saw no point in continuing the conversation so we stepped away from the register and my son call the main Sears customer service number to get confirmation on the policy. He was on the phone for a long time while she took all the information and listened to his side of the story. She said that Sears didn't have a policy against using gift cards to buy gift cards, but each store manager was able to make their own decisions. She put us on hold while she called the store. We could hear the manager being paged. The end result is that each store can make their own rules and corporate will back them up. Luckily I only purchased $300 of the sears cards. I'll eventually use them to buy a new garage door opener but right now I don't want to give Sears any business.

You can't fault Sears for backing up the store manager. Their policy allows the managers to make decisions in this area and unfortunately for you, this manager does not allow it at her store.

This is what happens when you roll the dice on deals that are sort of in a gray area. Some people will win. Some will lose. At least you have a back up plan for those Sears GCs. I dislike Sears and won't shop at any of our area KMarts, so I would have been really stuck with the Sears GCs if I had purchased them. For that reason, I passed on this deal.

Glad for everyone who was able to make this deal work for them. Sorry for those of you who purchased Sears GCs in the hopes of using them to buy Disney GCs but could not. It stinks that the deal didn't work for you.

Well said. I agree - it is a risk, but you can't really fault Sears for following policy. We personally felt it was a risk worth taking since there are so many things we could have bought at Kmart with these cards. Also wanted to mention that folks can sell the Sears cards on sites such as Cardpool if you end up stuck with them (probably at a profit).

You make a good point and it definitely puts things in perspective. It was a gamble to start with and I shouldn't complain if it doesn't pay off 100% of the time. I've been lucky to score some good deals on gift cards thanks to this thread. And really, I have $300 in gift cards for which I only paid $240, so I didn't really lose. Looking at it from the store manager's perspective, I would have been disappointed if my employer gave me the authority to make certain decisions and then didn't back me up. I appreciate everyone letting me vent.

Just of of pure curiosity, did the manager say why she wouldn't allow you to buy the WDW gift cards with Sears gift cards?(Since it's her own personal policy.) Seems like it would have been good for her daily store sales figures if she had allowed you to do it, instead of just letting you walk out the door without buying anything.
ETA - I wouldn't hold it against Sears as a company, but I certainly wouldn't give that particular store any of my business.

We asked her why. She said it was to prevent people from buying gift cards with a Sears gift card that might have been purchased with a stolen credit card, which makes absolutely no sense to me at all.

The weird thing is that when we called Sears corporate, we were told that there wasn't a policy against the practice, but I just now looked at the Sears website and at the very bottom of the Gift Card page in tiny print, it states "Gift Cards can not be used to purchase Gift Cards." I really wish I had noticed that before as it would have saved me a lot of time and frustration.

Oh well, live & learn! I'm going to try to use mine to buy WDW gift cards. I'll probably try a little closer to Christmas, when the stores are busy. If it doesn't work, I'll spend some, sell some, or just lock them up in the safe for my heirs to find one day.:goodvibes
