Disney Gift Card Deals

Just wanted to post my experience. I went to one Target and was denied. They said no gift cards with gift cards.

I went to another store and bought $600 worth of Disney gift cards through self checkout with no problem. I then went back in to get $600 more. This time the self checkout wouldn't read that I had placed the gift cards in the bag so the employee had to come over. She said "Oh, that's because you're not supposed to buy gift cards at self checkout. Come here, I'll ring them up." It seems that her manager just happened to be around and she double checked that I could buy that many gift cards. Her manager shrugged and said "It's fine." So she rung them up and I showed her my phone to scan the barcode from the target app. She never questioned the form of payment and it went through just fine. Now I have $1500 left to buy. I guess I'll go there and try another batch tomorrow. All the $100 Disney gift cards had been bought already because their slots were empty. They only had $50's which made it worse because I had a stack that was twice as big. It was a little nerve wracking but worth it for the 10% off. ;)

A few thoughts:

1. One of the larger Targets near me has signs up at self-checkout, No Alcohol or Gift Card Purchases. I just avoid that one when buying GCs with GCs. Others only say no alcohol only, but I'm sure certain other controlled substances like certain over-the-counter medications might trigger employee intervention.

2. The GCs themselves weigh almost nothing so the self-checkout scale doesn't register them half the time, prompting the terminal to ask if you'd like to skip bagging for that card. The POS systems seems to let you skip bagging for three or four items before it prompts an employee to come and key in their code. I always make sure I have my wallet open along with my phone set to all my GCs to keep my method of payment ambiguous until the employee goes away.

3. There's so much ignorance (I don't know if that's the best word) among even Target employees whether you can use a GC to buy another GC. Just check out this recent thread on the Target employees subreddit going all sorts of ways: https://www.reddit.com/r/Target/comments/5gjgr7/can_you_buy_a_chipotle_gift_card_at_target_using/

I've been pretty lucky that even when I've had to deal with an employee who'd say something like, "I don't think you can do that;" I've always been able to get them to try because "I've never had any problems paying with a GC before." Often, they're pleasantly surprised and hopefully that experience will mean they won't give the next person the same trouble. I think if they're going to elevate it to management, I'd just say forget about it and try someone or somewhere else. Add seasonal employees who have less experience, and you're sure to get mixed messages.

Yes, this self checkout had a sign saying no alcohol purchases. It didn't say anything about gift cards. When she saw the gift cards in my bag, that's when she told me it wasn't allowed at self checkout. She was very nice about it. I told her I didn't know. She said it was ok, she'd ring me up at the register right next to self checkout. I think there is a limit to how many gift cards you can buy at once and since I was buying $50's, the stack looked pretty big. It was my first time using the self checkout for gift cards so I didn't know how many I could skip bagging. You're right. It was after the 3rd or 4th one that it prompted an employee over. I didn't have my wallet or phone in my hand so she had no clue how I was planning on paying.

When I got home, 1 of the $50 gift cards was missing! I only had 11 when she had scanned & charged for 12! So I went back and lo & behold, it was stuck in the plastic bags. She was so sorry. I figured while I was there let me get some more. I grabbed $900 worth, went to a regular line on the other side of the store and bought the $900 worth with no problem. She did ask another manager if I could buy that many. She asked how many, I said $900 and she said no problem. When it was time to pay I had the barcode open on my phone and she just scanned the 3 gift cards with no questions asked. :)

I just ran to Target for dog food and pop. I grabbed $600 (of my $1200) in Target gift cards and stopped by the electronics department. They had a lot of $25, $50 and $100 so I just grabbed (6) $100's and added the to my cart. I went to the checkout (no self-checkout here) and there was no issue in applying my gift cards to my purchase. The cashier read me my total, scanned both gift cards, and I paid the rest with my RedCard...no big deal.

I went home and loaded the $600 onto my DVC dues gift card (via the website) and now I have $1000 on a card for my dues, which should leave me about $16 left to pay:)

I still need to convert my last $600 in Target into Disney so I can get my AP before January 3, but I am going to hold on to them in case they run the FWP gift card deal again.

Just a small data point - I purchased $300 worth of Target cards online plus a sheet of gift tags on Sunday. Total came out to $271.xx and as a habit, I went through Ebates. I got credit for the amount. Not sure if it will stick but it was credited right away and hasn't been taken off yet. Not sure if anyone else has been having luck as well? I also had a Staples' order credit as well for $4 when I used the AMEX deal.

I ordered via Swagbucks and added a sheet of 50 cent gift tags for store pick up. It's showing as pending in my S&E ledger.

If you have a business american express check your offers. A few people have reported receiving $20 off $100 at Office Depot/Office Max and only on business cards. The recommendation I read was to buy a $100 American express gift card at office depot today or tomorrow as they are selling them for no fees right now! And it triggered the offer for me. While there I saw Disney gift cards where you select the amount. Some Office Depots allow gift card purchases with credit cards, some don't so it's very YMMV.

Walmart has a promo going where you get a $20 gift card when you use Walmart Pay in store to purchase $100 worth of merch. Must use an Amex card in Walmart Pay. I don't see where gift cards are excluded.

Ebates quickly credited my first gift card purchase from Staples but eventually clawed it back. The second order never credited even temporarily.

Do you have to add an offer? I saw it on a few websites, but couldn't find the details.

No, I don't think so. It looks like you just have to load and pay with any Amex card using Walmart Pay. Here is the link to the offer on Walmart. http://www.20egiftcard.com
Thanks. Just looked at comments on hip2save and someone said they bought some items and a gift card to get them over $100 and got the egift card. Seems straight forward enough!

Forgot to mention...
The other day I stopped at my Kroger and bought another Amex card to try the no activation fee coupon. I went through self checkout. The coupon still didn't work on the $100 card... I tried to ask the lady working, but she told me she couldn't do anything. I ended up getting the card still.

I was going to use the $100 Amex to buy the $25 and $50 with no activation fees, but ran out of time, plus I don't want to fight with the coupons. I'll just stop by tonight or tomorrow and turn the $100 Amex into Disney, which will lose me $3 in fuel points (the horror!)

My process was something like $10 off Amex > $10 off Visa > Amex w/ AF > $10 off Visa > Amex w/ AF> Disney.

I'll have paid $107 and gotten $100 Disney, saved $30 on gas, and the few dollars left when I used the $10 off coupons went to groceries (~$7).

ETA perhaps I should mention that I drive a smalll car and get 10-11 gallons when I use the fuel rewards... if I tried to take DF with me in the evening (only time that would work) to fill both cars, it's a madhouse (we're lacking in gas stations), so I'm definitely not at full potential for the gas savings lol.

I was curious anyone here does Tables in Wonderland? Since we're not technically paying the full $150...

I was kicking around doing it because we have 2 trips planned (for 2 adults): 4 days, with 4-5 places on TiW, and a 10-11 day trip for our wedding/honeymoon (that's not including the wedding day, where we have some other plans lol). We don't have the wedding/honeymoon restaurants picked yet, but I'm thinking a good number of TS and possibly a few adult beverages are possible.

I use the TIW, I am a DVC member so I got it for $25 off the price. Even with out the discount, I think it is worthwhile. Right now there is a similar discount for AP and DVC members until September, so I won't get new TIW card for our next trip, otherwise I would.

WDW Annual Pass holders get 20% off of many Disney restaurants until September 30,2017 to celebrate their 45th birthday. If you have an AP and your trips are before this date you may not need TIW card.

Has anyone ever had a target gift card show as "shipped" but with no tracking information? I chose to have the gift card I ordered online mailed to me (kind of an accident) and I got the "shipped" notice but when I check the order there's no tracking information for just that card - the rest of my order has a number.

I've never bought a physical target GC from online before, I usually email it so I'm not sure if this is normal.

Ok finally got an answer, Target sends their gift cards good old USPS first class mail, so no tracking info. What was worrying me is that they haven't charged my credit card either so I wasn't sure if the order got goofed (they did that to me once with regular merch), but it shows activated... I'm sure I'll get charged eventually :)

Is anyone else holding out for the "buy 2 Disney cards get a free $5 target card" deal before they curn from Target to Disney? They offered that deal last year in the first week of December and then offered the 10% Target cards in the 3rd week of December. I'm hoping that they switched the two deals.

No, I'm too anxious that they're going to remove target > disney from their POS to wait.
