Disney - get control of these groups of teens that CHEER and YELL their way through the parks!

These groups are the primary reason that we avoid certain resorts during our January trips. We really don't mind them unless we get caught in a queue with them. When we see them, we go the other way. When there are too may groups to avoid, we hop to another park.

This is considered to be the most polite reaction to these groups, and it seems to be a very common one. But I wonder how I would feel if I went with a tour group to another country, and found out that the locals would turn and walk away every time they saw me, or would change their hotel plans to avoid sleeping in the same building as me. I'd like to think I'd learn something from that, but from what I can tell that is unlikely with the young people in these groups.

the last thing I worry about when I decide to stay at a resort the groups don't stay at, is how the groups would feel if they knew I was purposefully avoiding their resort in order to avoid them. Everybody can make their own decisions as to what would be the kind of vacation they want.

The powers that be have redefined "race" from a genetic distinction to a cultural distinction. Not a political observation, but one observed in fact by looking the word up in Merriam-Webster's online dictionary; to wit, definition 3:
race
noun
Definition of RACE
1
: a breeding stock of animals
2
a : a family, tribe, people, or nation belonging to the same stock

b : a class or kind of people unified by shared interests, habits, or characteristics (emphasis mine)
3
a : an actually or potentially interbreeding group within a species; also : a taxonomic category (as a subspecies) representing such a group

b : breed

c : a category of humankind that shares certain distinctive physical traits
4
obsolete : inherited temperament or disposition
5
: distinctive flavor, taste, or streng

Yes but race is not the same as racism
1: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race

I think that word you are looking for is

eth·no·cen·trism
ˌeTHnōˈsentrizəm/
noun
  1. evaluation of other cultures according to preconceptions originating in the standards and customs of one's own culture.
Which arguably could be applied to this thread.

Yes but race is not the same as racism
Agreed, but I didn't try to define "racism." My point is that based on the redefinition of race, those pointing out discrimination based on "shared characteristics" (such as a common nationality) feel free to appropriate the term "racism."

Am I the only one that just feels TIRED watching these videos and even thinking about that? Who has the energy to shout and clap and march in this weather? Especially all day on a multi-day trip. What are these people eating??? It all makes me need a nap.

Who knew American society was so introverted in comparison to others?

Remember where they live? It's hot down there all ( or at least most) of the time. Summer heat in Florida isn't a big deal to them.

We were there July 8-15. Saw many groups, didn't have a problem with any of them. We even had lunch at CP right next to a big group fo Brazilian teens. Other than normal excitement for Pooh & friends, no problems. The only time were heard them was from the Wishes viewing area during MSEP. A group was sitting in the hub. Any time a character float came by a loud cheer from the group would go up. It was not rude, just excitement.

Got it. I haven't ever encountered the tour groups in Disney. However, I have encountered them here in the city en masse. The have shirts that indicate they plan on going to Disney. LOL But I haven't noticed any cheering.

I would say that most of the groups that we have experienced have also been well behaved, if a little excitable. But the ones that are out of control ruin the reputation of the lot. Sad, but as I said before, when we saw them coming we went the other way. Why, if most were well behaved? Because you just didn't know what you were getting until it was too late if you went into a closed queue with them.

ETA - and, if you got into a queue with a quiet group and a loud group, they would both end up "competing" to see which could be the loudest at some point. Crazy stuff. Sometimes fun to watch, but not if you have a headache.

It is annoying, for sure. And I wish Disney would do someone about it, but I'm not sure what they CAN do about it. Can they say "be quiet in queues?" Because then what about people talking loudly on cell phones? Little kids squealing?

It's just going to be hard to define "too loud," I think. Now, line cutting, they can do something about, and I'm not sure why they don't. I also think cast members should be able to shush people in pre-shows who are being obnoxious, but that, again, goes beyond tour groups.

Who is going to define appropriate . . . .
I find screaming children offensive. Should Disney address them as well. . . .

I think it would be easy to make a rule....no chanting or singing as a group. Disney is very good at making rules that are subject to interpretation when necessary...for example what constitutes a costume or not on an adult, etc. They don't crack down on the chanting for a reason I'll assume it's money.

The tour groups generate a lot of revenue and therefore will never go away or face any sanctions.

Edit: In any event, I'm sure we can discuss annoying people we've encountered without identifying them by race as though that has something to do with their behavior.

I don't think its an issue of race as much as its an issue of culture. There might be white, black or latino Brazilians afterall.

There really are issues of culture to consider. For instance, the school I work at has a large chinese population that attends, and they have an integration course they have to go through, one of the big things they try to teach the incoming students is how to line up for the buses. Where a lot of these students come from there are many more people than buses, so people don't line up orderly for the buses, they just group up and push themselves on to the bus. That's not how we do it here ... so they literally have to teach young adults how to line up for a bus. Many of them still don't follow these rules though ... its quite annoying.

I am sure there are many cultural differences between North Americans and some of the travel groups, things they might find normal, but to the majority of the guests might be quite offensive. Something they don't think for a second about but which to the people around them detracts from their vacation ...

It's inconsiderate and innappropriate behavior, no matter where someone comes from. I've personally experienced groups chanting over CMs giving instructions and pre-ride videos. When it negatively affects other customers, it's wrong. The apologists and relativists have no argument that holds water here. Trying to paint the complaints as racism is a fallacy.
