Whispering Canyon Cafe...Lunch

DH had the Pan-seared Rainbow Trout - with roasted potatoes, smoked bacon, onions, spinach, and fresh cucumber relish drizzled with chili oil $16.99
155_155.jpg

When did you guys have this? I ordered that same trout this past May. I only got one very tiny paper thin piece of trout and it was sitting flat on a platter in about 1/2' of oil. The potatoes were also completely saturated with that oil as was the very sour cucumber relish. The whole meal was just nasty. It was definitly the worst meal I've ever had in any restaurant anywhere. Yours looks totally different and much better than mine. I swear the whole dish was just floating in that chili oil, the fish was paper thin, burnt and dried out. The oil was at least 1/2" thick in the platter and totally covered the fish. Mine didn't have all that salad stuff under the fish, just a couple of pieces of cooked greasy spinach.

Kona Cafe:
This was THE BEST meal!!! So good!

My Tuna Oscar served with fried green tomatoes, tempura-fried jumbo lump crab, and wasabi hollandaise
I have never had tuna rare (not a lot of fresh tuna around Iowa!!) and I am very glad I tried it. The wasabi hollandaise had a mild kick but not too spicy. The crab were nice large pieces. This was AMAZING!! My only complaint would be for a few more crab pieces.

Mine, Mine, Mine, Mine, Mine, Mine, Mine!!!! I know what I'm getting when we eat there in September! Hope they can still get green tomatoes that time of year. Anyone know?

And last but not least, from wolfgang puck express Applewood Smoked Bacon Pizza - scrambled eggs, Niman Ranch Bacon, mozzarella and cheddar cheese and Ranch Dressing
This was VERY good and a huge breakfast for CS!!

A few other dining thoughts (sorry no pics)
Cosmic Rays - we enjoyed, particularly the toppings bar
Le Cellier - not bad. I had the mushroom filet and thought the risotto was awful (very gummy) but the filet was an excellent piece of meat and cooked perfectly The chocolate "moose" was better than I anticipated
Liberty tree tavern - I didn't care for the cheeseburger (should have gone with the salad), the toffee dessert was OK. DH thought it was the best meal there (pot roast and apple dessert), go figure!

This breakfast pizza looks so good!!!:worship:

We didn't care much for Liberty Tree Tavern either...we thought that the food was not so good...we had family style dinner where they bring everything out on big platters...we also did not like the service we received....there were 3 of us and they sat us at a small table for 2 and there was no room what so ever on the table....and yes we did have reservations for dinner....we will not be going back there for dinner again...

just last monday and it wasn't greasy at all

Kona Cafe:

By the way, the night we were there, they did not have the macadamia nut torte (I would have been torn between the two). Not sure if this was a fluke or a permanant change.

When we were there in May our server told us that they were going to be taking the macadamia nut torte off the menu so I'm guessing you got a new menu.

i'm not positive but i'm pretty sure they serve this dish as it's described on the menu (and shown in the picture you're drooling over) year round. i know they added this item back in the winter and when we went in late april they had it. i live in georgia and i know several restaurants around here offer fried green tomato sandwiches year round. i plan on ordering it when we go back in december so i hope they still have them!

i was just getting ready to say the same thing! my DH ordered this back in may and it was very similar to the way you describe it above. he thought it was okay and he ate most of it, but he was expected something different. the previous poster's version looks MUCH better! here's the one DH got......

Here is my pic for the day, along with a question. I got this back in 06' at Sci-Fi It was the "Happiest Celebration" dessert. It was probably the single best thing I have ever had! Does anyone know if they still have this but under a different name? It was cheesecake with caramel, chocolate, Cracker Jacks, Chocolate Candies and a choc wafer on top. Oh yea, that stuff under the choc wafer is whipped cream. :)

I had this in February so as far as I know it's still there. The only thing different was the abscence of the chocolate wafer!

Seems like they changed the presentation of this, and also the portion size. You used to get three shrimp and three scallops, now you only get two! Or did he eat some before the picture was taken?

I think I'm going to try the tuna oscar as well when I eat at Kona.

It's entirely possible that he had eaten some before I took the picture but I'm honestly not sure.

It was the best thing I ate in all of WDW!! (Where's that drooly smily?)

Bummer, I figured I was likely to get the Kilauea Torte for dessert and the macadamia torte to go!!

i was sad the fried herb cheese was gone :sad1: I had only ever seen it on here and was very excited to try it

I know it's probably been posted a million times before, but does anyone have the link to the post which has all the delicious food pictures categorized by restaurant?

By the way, I am heading to WDW in two weeks and will be taking pictures of:

50's Primetime Cafe
Boma
Flame Tree BBQ
Sunshine Seasons
Tangierine Cafe
Spoodles
Kona Cafe
GF Garden View Tea Room
1900 Park Fare
Sci Fi Dine in Theater
Wolfgang Puck Express
Columbia Harbour House
Earl of Sandwich
Crystal Palace

... and a few more CS we haven't decided on yet.

Any requests?

Heres the catergorized link.... http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1601839

Any CS in MK, AK or DHS would be great.... as we have no idea where to eat for those.
We already have adrs at Crystal Palace, Kona, and Sci-Fi so pics of those would be great. We also plan on eating at Sunshine Seasons

Thank you so much, ShhQ!

We plan on splitting all of our CS meals (it's just my mom and me), so hopefully we will be able to fit in double the variety of restaurants. I'll fit in as many as I can!:goodvibes

OK so before I went to Disney, I waded through all the pages of the original food porn thread and thread 2. I promised myself I would give back to all of you in photos of my own. I am sorry to admit that I just wasn't very good at taking pictures but I will post those I have.

Here's my first try at putting in a photo so wish me luck...

Cheese plate (it had a swiss, a brie and another soft cheese, don't know what it was) with baguette from bakery in France. This was very good and a huge serving!! I took about 1/2 of it with me and ate it over the next couple days. And the AMAZING grey goose slushy. I could go for one of those right now!!

It looks like it is possibly a Port-du-Salut......
