Disney eliminates outside vendor drop off/pickup services. Must meet vendor for drop off/pickup (mobility devices only so far it seems)

I just didn’t want that previously quoted post to leave the wrong impression for someone who may not realize the options available. Finding the right ECV and being able to transport it was a serious concern for our family during an offsite stay.

I think it's important to process that all we have are reports that came via the providing companies .... which probably aren't happy right now. Disney started this with the change in size requirements and wagon bans. This didn't come out of nowhere, it's probably been in works awhile. The date has already been adjusted from October to November and I will assume that is because Disney has not made a statement. Whatever the "final" plan is for the moment, it might not be the plan in 3 mos, 6 mos or next year. Any promises made about pre-bookings getting drop offs to Bell Services may change (Disney has fine print to allow them to do almost anything they want). Everyone should contact their vendor within 30 days of their trip and have a Plan B.

That is not what I said at all. I was trying to find a solution for these companies, that have to now meet with their customers, have a more efficient and faster way to get their ECVs to the customer. By having a space in a part of the parking lot, they can drop off more then 1 person's ECV at at time so that the customer does not have to wait around. With having to have the box trucks pull up to the drive, it can cause a back up when you get more then a couple coming in at the same time. And I am the one that is all for having a representative at the resorts to help expedite the process. I did not say for the guests to go out to the end of the parking lot to get the ECV, but to have them there and ready so when you show up, they can have it close in hand. These would all be helpful to you. I don't know why your would think otherwise.

I do agree with you that having box trucks lining up 6-8 times a day (as some companies have promised) is not a positive for Disney's onstage look or traffic control with Mears buses, taxis, ride shares all using the same spaces. You rarely even see any kind of delivery truck on property because Disney doesn't allow it. They deliver to a central location and Disney distributes from there. BUT I do think since this is new and will be in test drive for months they will deal with the congestion. If they feel it is working for long term, I could see them building an "depot" similar to the covered bus stations at moderates within the "check in" parking lot or somewhere close to the lobby that doesn't block traffic. They will come up with some kind of pickup area. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see something similar to Amazon drop boxes we see in hotels for those shipping from other companies. This is going to be a long term trial and error, but I do think in long run Disney will save money and the "front desk" area will be less stretched handling guests business with third parties.

There is, Scooterbug. The stroller options are IMO terrible.

If it was handled properly there should have been a bidding process for the outside companies to provide this service. Within that there should have been minimum requirements that the company will provide. There might be a change in the offering from this company. I know if I were a vendor and had opportunity for this "in" I would adjust my inventory. Having this means this company doesn't necessarily need to do multiple drops but perhaps keep a basic inventory at resorts and drop once a day to replenish based on reservations. It might also mean getting a rental on property would be a possibility. I look at this as Disney has their own restaurants they want you eat at, but they are also providing you third party restaurants at Epcot and Disney Springs. Either way Disney is making money.

I have read on multiple sites that Scooterbug is the current supplier and handler of the Disney strollers and ECV's now. That would certainly have given them an inside advantage.

Yes it would. I wonder if Disney was even open to two different providers then? I did look at their site and they only offer two kinds of strollers .... I wonder how this will play out if guests really don't want their strollers. I would hope if they are going to "represent" Disney like Mears that a bar has been set to be achieved.

EDITED to add: Today (Oct 1) the offerings on Scooter Bug have expanded considerably. There are now a wide range of mobility and stroller devices with with variety of size and weight limits. It seems they are meeting a bar and provided something for all guests.

If Disney’s true objective in changing this policy was to reduce the number of rental strollers and ECVs going through bell services, it makes sense that choosing the least popular stoller/ECV company as their official vendor is most likely to accomplish it.

It will be interesting if Scooterbug can keep up with demand. Based on their website, I would NEVER rent from them. And I don't recall seeing their ECVs around Disney. Walker/Apple/BV are everywhere, literally.

It would be nice if Disney would upgrade the beasts of ECVs they have in the parks/BW/DS and allow guaranteed reservations.

Are there HA DME busses?

But why have one that’s allowed to drop off to begin with, if that’s truly the objective. The preferred providers were paying for that ability, so it makes sense that it’s not only about money. I’m interested to see how it all plays out.

Just to clear up this bit of misinformation, multiple rental places offer high quality heavy-duty ECVs that disassemble for transport and have for years. Most are rated for up to 400-450 lbs.
It is NOT misinformation. They may disassemble for transport, but as I said a heavy duty typically will not fit in a car, only those marketed as portable. They fit in some full sized suvs with the seats up, and some midsize with seats down but NOT in car. Many do not disassemble for transport, or it is not recommended that consumers disassemble them.

My experience obviously differs from yours. Over the past several years we have never rented an SUV while at Disney but have many, many times disassembled heavy-duty EVCs to put into the truck of our rental car. Yes, multiple rental companies absolutely DO recommend their customers do this and often have videos showing how. Not that this really matters in regards to the subject of this thread.

Yes. You should inform DME ahead of time, to avoid having to wait longer while they reroute or dispatch an accessible bus.
Really? Just a facepalm? No snarky eyeroll? ;)

Randy's specifically states it easily disassembles. Why would that matter if not for transport?
These don’ t fit in a car trunk. I asked.
Car trunk sizes vary.

Everyone I called told me they do NOT fit in a car trunk, only in an SUV, or that they did not recommend disassembly for transport, and I called every company I could find to contact. I would love to know exactly where you got one that will fit completely into the trunk of a sedan.

Yes, Randy’s says easily disassembles, but doesn’t say it will fit in a car trunk, when I called they said that they don’t, and we would need an suv to transport it.

Everyone I called told me the would not fit in a car trunk, even a full size. We would need an SUV to transport.

I'm surprised a base that needs to be no larger than 48" x 30" ( to comply with Disney restrictions) would not fit in the trunk of a full size automobile. The entire ECV, maybe not. even disassembled, my Randy's rental needed the base put in the trunk and the seat in the back seat. But not at all? A Taurus has 20 cu.ft. of trunk space.

New Policy is posted now.....Scooterbug is the lone preferred supplier!

Disney Featured Provider
Guests who use a stroller or mobility device when visiting Walt Disney World Resort have a variety of options including using a personally-owned stroller or mobility device, renting through ScooterBug—the Disney Featured Provider—or renting from another third-party company.
ScooterBug, a private mobility rental company in the Central Florida area, is the Disney Featured Provider to offer stroller, ECV and wheelchair rentals at Walt Disney World Resort theme parks and Disney Springs in addition to length-of-stay rentals for Guests staying at Disney Resort hotels. When Disney Resort hotel Guests choose to rent through ScooterBug, the Guest does not need to be present when the equipment is delivered to the Resort hotel. ScooterBug will work with Disney Resort Cast Members to manage deliveries and returns of rented strollers, ECVs and wheelchairs. Pre-orders and deliveries of mobility rentals through ScooterBug to Disney Resort hotels are available by visiting scooterbug.com/orlando or calling (800) 726-8284.
What recently changed about the Disney Featured Provider program?
We recently modified the Disney Featured Provider program to enhance and simplify the vacation planning process. The program previously included several Featured Providers offering rental options to Guests. Effective October 1, ScooterBug, who is the current provider of rental strollers and mobility devices in our theme parks and Disney Springs, will also become the Disney Featured Provider for our Resort Guests.
I already reserved a mobility device for my trip to Walt Disney World with another company. What does this mean for my existing reservation?
Disney Resort hotel Cast will continue to manage equipment deliveries and returns for reservations made on or before September 30, 2019 with the following vendors: Apple Scooter, Best Price Scooters and Strollers, Buena Vista Scooter Rentals, Kingdom Strollers, Magic Strollers and Orlando Stroller Rentals. Please contact the vendor directly with any additional questions about your current or future reservations.
Will vendors still be able to deliver my pre-ordered stroller, ECV or wheelchair rental and arrange delivery at Disney Resort hotels in the future?
Yes. Guests who rent from our Disney Featured Provider, ScooterBug, do not need to be present when the equipment is delivered to the Resort hotels. ScooterBug will work with Disney Resort Cast Members to manage deliveries and returns of rented strollers, ECVs and wheelchairs. Guests who rent through other vendors will need to be present when the equipment is delivered. Please contact those third-party vendors directly for information about their rentals.
Do I have to be present to receive my mobility device?
Guests do not need to be present for deliveries when they rent through ScooterBug. ScooterBug will work with Disney Resort Cast Members to manage deliveries and returns of rented strollers, ECVs and wheelchairs.
