Okay, one of the things I was most interested in reading about was people's opinions/reviews/comments about the new restaurants, including Cabanas (since I heard it has islands instead of a cafeteria line), and the new snack areas. What they thought of the designs, the seating, what shows go on during dinner, and what they thought of the themes.

I did a search and really didn't find anything specific to the restaurant experiences.

I know many have posted their opinions overall about the cruise so far, including service and food, but have not actually seen a lot of comments specific to the restaurants themselves. I thought maybe people could post here with just their restaurant comments of the Dream. THANKS! :coffee:

When I saw that Cabanas was designed as pods I was afraid that it might be difficult to get your food because it would just be a mass of people all trying to do the same thing. This was not the case, it was quite simple to go from island to island getting what you wanted. There are sets of identical islands on either side of the restaurant. When you enter the restaurant, a server asks how many are in your party and finds you a table. Napkins and cutlery are at the tables.
The food served was different each day (lunch) and each day they had peel and eat shrimp, crab claws and mussels. Each day also had a carved meat, fish dish, hot shrimp dish, steak and sushi. There was an area where they made pizzas which I did not try. The variety was good as was the quality. The deserts also varied daily. Drinks were from self service soda fountains.
I really enjoyed eating here each day.

I really liked the new design of the quick service area (burgers, pizza, chicken, fruit, wraps, salad). They added another salad to the area - one with mango and chicken which I enjoyed. The pizza had more options and seemed to have improved over what I recalled. I really liked that if I wanted something from different places they were all together and easy to move from window to window.

the drink stations are also more conveniently located and on both sides of the ship.

Cabanas was also nice. Only ate there once, as have a child that had to special order (gluten free) and therefore required to go to the sit down restaurants for every meal, but one day tried Cabana's with my other dd while DH took her to the sit down restaurant. Had some good feta stuffed zucchini there.

Overall I felt the quality of the food improved in all of the restaurants. Sorry to say that I have never been impressed with the quality of food at DCL, but felt it was much better this time around. the black truffle pasta at AP (app) was fantastic!

Thanks for the update on this! Any idea what Cabanas is like for breakfast?

Just got off the 1/30 4 day cruise.

Cabanas is a huge improvement over Topsiders/Beach Blanket. The pods are set up so that you can just grab what you want quickly and move on. There are no trays to carry or drinks to balance. We sat at our table, went and got our drinks and put them back on the table. Then we picked up a plate and got the food we wanted. Loved it! The selection is good, especially at breakfast, much more to choose from then Enchanted Garden.

Breakfast - 1 day at Enchanted Garden and 3 days at Cabanas for breakfast. Would not go back to Enchanted Garden for breakfast. The buffet is small. There choices are limited. Cabanas is much much better than EG for breakfast.

Lunch - We ate at EG embarkation day, 1 day up on deck at Flo's Cafe, 1 day at Royal Palace and 1 day at Cabanas. We were disappointed with EG for embarkation day. The selection was limited and sort of like a mini-version of the fare at Cabanas.

We enjoyed Royal Palace for lunch. The lunch menu was good and the service was great. Cabanas was good for lunch as well, easy to get around and the selection was fine. Some seafood, carved beef, lots of other choices. Flo's cafe was easy as well. You could even get a sandwich made how you like it, not just the pre-made stuff. Drink stations are much more convenient.

Dinner - We ate in all 3 restaurants including Animators twice (pirate night). We enjoyed each one and they are very different from one another.

Enchanted Garden - Very pretty room. Have no idea what all we ate, but everything was good. The meal was hot and no one complained about anything they got.

Royal Palace was next and we had a great table there as well. Loved the bread basket they give you that looks like a carriage. All of the princesses walk by and say a very quick "hello, enjoy your dinner". Another very pretty room.

Animators was better on this ship than the Magic and WOnder. It didn't feel as crowded to me and we loved the theme and interaction with the character on the screen. Food was great, they had a brownie cheesecake that was wonderful. I never finish dessert and I finished every bite.

We did notice that dinners seemed quieter on this ship. One of the complaints about the Magic and Wonder was how loud the dining rooms were. I felt this was much quieter. It helps that the servers stations (where they put all the dirty dishes, prepare your plates, etc) were much better placed. Most of the tables did not face the stations so you weren't looking at dirty dishes or work stations all the time. Most of the stations face each other so the servers work back to back in the middle of the stations. In Animators, some of the stations are in little rooms off to the side or back, so you don't see them at all. This is a vast improvement.

We thought that the overall Dining experience was wonderful. We had requested a server previously on the Wonder and our request was granted. Our assistant server was new (as all of them are) and he did a good job, not fantastic, but pretty good. Our server had to pick up some of his slack, like removing dishes, placing silverware, getting extra bread. He was very friendly, but still just learning his way around. Everyone has to learn a new ship, new galley, new procedures and they are changing things everyday trying to do things better. It will probably be a little rough for awhile until they get a great system in place, but they are all trying to do the best they can and most of them keep a smile on their face while doing it.

We had no real complaints overall and thoroughly enjoyed our 4 days on the Dream.

Awesome review, Delo4. I have been looking for information on everything you posted. :thumbsup2

Truly can't wait until our May 1 sail date!

Now this is what I'm talkin' about! Keep 'em coming. Great reviews all :thumbsup2

thanks for the reviews -- what a great idea for a thread too, not everyone writes a TR . . .

I was wondering which restaurants are open for lunch on embarkation day? For those of you who have been there/done that, which one should we go to for lunch?

also just got off the 1/30 cruise and thoroughly enjoyed all of the food. My Dh & I ate a Cabanas for lunch late on embarkation day and for breakfast once as well as the pirate buffet. Each time there was a good selection of food and everything was delicious. This being our first cruise, I was happy to see how many healthier options were available at cabanas and at Flo's (though the Eye Scream around the corner was often more tempting than fruit).

We were seated at the back of Enchanted garden, so we didnt really get to enjoy the ambiance, but again good food. Loved royal palace (for dinner and lunch 1x), we even tried the escargot which was..interesting. By far Animators was my favorite, I second the truffle pasta, though my Dh had beef a few times and enjoyed it. A note on ordering beef.. we ordered his medium Well and it definately was Medium Rare, so be specific.

Every dessert was yummy, I wish I could have tried them all. We also had a celebration cake for our honeymoon and that was great. Also tried some of the no-sugar added desserts- also good

my one small piece of feedback would be on eye scream. It sounded like there were a ton of flavors available yet there were only two, so more variety would have been nice.
