Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

Well, it seems we may be making some changes to our plans--not the cruise itself--but to our travel plans. I had originally planned on flying from New Orleans to Orlando the night before the cruise and staying at the Hyatt MCO, then taking Disney Transportation to the Port the day of the cruise. But now my DD Rachel does not want to fly. Seems she has seen some of the news reports on the increased security and is afraid of the possibility of having to go through the enhanced pat-down. I know that not all passengers have to go through this, but I don't think I can take the chance of booking our flights and then her refusing to cooperate, if necessary, and us not being able to fly out. I would then be stuck because it would not leave us enough time at that point to drive. As I have posted earlier in our thread, she is mildly mentally challenged and sometimes she doesn't understand and cannot be reasoned with. I really didn't want to drive because I will need to break it up into two days and would wind up arriving at the Port the morning of the cruise. I guess I have time before I need to totally commit one way or the other.

Well, enough of my problems. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and is having a great weekend.

Can you take Rachel to the airport and let her watch the security area? Here in Atlanta you can see some of it without going all the way through. My mom has Alzheimers and when we flew home from Moline, she had to go through the pat down. I could not stand with her, but was able to tell the guard that she had alzheimers and they were very patient and understanding with her. I taught a MID class for 22 years, so I can understand and sympathize with your dilema. It would be a hard choice as it would be a risk at her balking at the checkpoint. I wonder if you called your airport if there are any accomodations to the TSA rules for those with intellectual disabilities? At least if you have to drive, a Disney cruise awaits you at the end!

I can't believe Thanksgiving weekend is almost over. It went by too fast. Today, I'm starting back on my diet for a couple weeks, take a break for Christmas and then back on it until the cruise. I have asked for the Wii Fit Plus and Wii Active 2 for Christmas to see if I can find some way to get some exercise in.
Today we are going to see Tangled. The kids wanted to go yesterday, but we got our tree up yesterday instead, got the kids' picture in front of it, and ordered our Christmas card. We always put our tree up Thanksgiving weekend and then it comes down the day after Christmas. DD's birthday is 3 days after Christmas, so I try very hard each year to have it her birthday with no signs of Christmas. This year, I need to order a tiny decorated tree and hide it. My parents and grandma are coming 3 weeks after Christmas to celebrate, but I need the tree down.
Got alot of shopping done this weekend. Not much left to get, but it is the hardest ones.

GOOD MORNING FELLOW CRUISERS!!

Getting ready for the Thanksgiving drive! LOL More so than usual this year. Steve has to work today and tomorrow, but the boys and I are going to my parent's today in OH (4 hours), to my sister's in MI tomorrow (2 hours) back to my parent's for the night (2hours), then leaving really early on Friday to come home (4hours) to get Steve so we can go to his parent's (2hours both ways) to have dinner with them! PHEW! I could go from my parent's to his parent's and meet him there, but it would actually be more in gas and I'll be exhausted from the other driving and we'll be late coming home Friday night, AND it will give us extra family time if I come home first!

Holly, that's wonderful that your DH and Son have found a special "thing" just for them.

This fight from Friday night has become quite the mess. the South Charleston players that were DQ'd have hired an attorney who took their case to a judge who granted them permission to play in the playoff games. The player on OUR team that clearly started it all, was NOT DQ'd, but a team member who is clearly ON THE SIDE LINE, IS DQ'd. ??? Another member that was trying to get his teammates to the side, did NOT throw a punch, is DQ'd. The part that is so wrong about all this, is that the SSAC is saying that the refs can not use video to make a decision. They have to go by complete memory. Well, guess what? THAT ain't working so well!! Here's the video if you want to see...or if you missed it on CNN! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6qLFymRIcA Anyway, Hurricane, my team is in the white. SC is the black. One of the SSAC rules is that if any team members or coaches enter the field they are ejected from the game. WHY the SSAC just didn't use that ruling, I don't know. SC cleared it's bench. Hurricane's coaches kept their kids on the bench.....like it should be. ANYWAY, I can't believe this has made it to the national news. Maybe I'll be able to keep up with it as I travel this weekend! LOL

I am going to run the vacuum, pack some clothes, get a shower and head up the road.

May you all be blessed with family and friends, good food and good times this Thanksgiving weekend!

Disney Dreaming......
Michele

I don't quite get football, but wow Michelle! What a mess!

And all that running around for the holiday!
Do you ever tell everyone that you'll see them another time and just stay home and have the holiday with your immediate family or have other people do the driving to your place?

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
I'll be going on the Christening Cruise January 19 - 21, and (obviously) can't wait!!! :yay: I promise to come back with LOTS of pictures and video. :thumbsup2

Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday! :flower3:

Wow! 2 cruises next year on the Dream!:thumbsup2

Great suggestion! Could you try that Tammy?

Gosh I'd kind of forgotten I always used to do that to! Always the day after Thanksgiving!
I guess as Sean and I have gotten older it just doesn't seem all that important and/or fun anymore and more like a chore.
I do eventually get it up before Christmas.
My son just doesn't really get into the holiday for a few years now.
My BF has his own house and we are mostly over there now, and no one else really comes over here so :confused3
I wish someone was more into it so I could be or that there were some little kids around to make it more fun.
Anyone want to send some my way? Just for the holidays, of course, I'd return them after that:rotfl2:

So anyway, after all that catching up.....

Happy after Thanksgiving everyone! Hope it was great for all!

We had it over at Bob's house for the first time. Usually we go to his mom's.
I still make some for home for leftovers anyway. I love to cook. And was honestly getting sad over the fact of going to his mom's every holiday and never getting to stay home and cook and entertain myself. But this year she offered it up to Bob, YAY!:thumbsup2:cool1:
We had a great time getting it all ready ( spent my birthday doing most of that stuff, but still celebrated a bit.... it was the day before)

Food was great! Timing was great!
And even though Bob's family is ..... (love his mom though:goodvibes), everyone and eveything worked out ok.

The stepdad of course had to walk in the house and immediately complain about why football wasn't on,( which I think is entirely rude to do in ANYONE'S home, even family) without just politely asking if we'd mind changing the channel from what we were watching..... and this usually irratates me to no end.... but i was good and let it slide and told my son to change the tv for him. Hopefully Karma will be good to me someday:goodvibes

Then we did get him to break away and come join us to play Apples to Apples, what a fun game! I bought it on a recommendation and thought it would be a fun family thing to do. Everyone enjoyed that.

10 hours at work Friday.
10 hours at work Saturday.
Driving my son back to college today.
10 hours at work tomorrow.

WHEW!

BTW, Michele, what does your hubby do again that he had to work on Thanksgiving?:confused3

Hey everyone. I've been reading along but just not posting much in the last five weeks.

Here's my background again, though I've been posting semi-regularly. I am DM 44, have DH 50, DS 15 in four days, and DS 11 who will be 12 in January. We live in the Dallas /Fort Worth Metroplex. This will be our sixth Disney cruise. I've been working at the same place for 23 years and love it. I'm the Chief Adminisrative Officer and I work all of the time.

October 8th I found out I have breast cancer. After two sets of biopsies, roundtables and other debates it was decided I should do a bi-lateral mastectomy with flap reconstruction (tissue taken from my abdomen to reconstruct). Sentinel node mapping showed two of the three nodes with small metastic cancers, so I'll have to do do chemo. Additional auxilary node removal showed no additioanl cancer in the rest of the nodes, which means I won't have to do radiation first. My prognosis should be good, and for that I feel thankful and Blessed.

Surgery was on the 15th and from what I've been told it's one of the worst surgeries to recover from. I'm doing as well as the docs hoped, walking around slowly with a stoop, trying to eat healthy and gaining strength for when I start chemo. They mentioned wanting to start right after Christmas which is fine with me. I don't know what kind of chemo, the strength of it, how many rounds etc. I'm praying that we can still take this cruise.

Anyway, if anyone has any experience with something similar, please pm me. I've found it is extremely helpful to talk to people who have experience with this. Since I've been involved from the first of this thread I thought it only right to let you know why there might be a female with no hair at the DIS meet!

I won't be able to plan the FE but I would like to be involved and I'll help in any way -- just don't want to be the sole organizer in case something happens and we can't make this trip.

Blessings to you all!

Marcij, sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but glad that you have such a positive attitude about it! I will keep you in my prayers that you have a fast recovery from your surgery and an easy time with the chemo. And, of course, will keep praying that you have a full and complete recovery!

Thanks for the suggestion. For your mother, was it since they started the enhanced pat downs recently (i.e., gropings around breasts and between legs)? And if so, did they modify the pat down in any way for her? Rachel would totally freak out if they touched her like that, especially if I would not be able to stand right next to her. It's just not worth taking the chance. We drove down to Disney World this past May and broke it up into 2 days each way. It wasn't too bad. I planned it out last night that we can stop in Lake City, FL off of I-75 and leave early the next morning and be able to arrive at the Port by about 10:30 am when they open. I would then park at the Port. And like you said, at the end of our drive the Disney Dream cruise awaits!!!

I've got three boys you can borrow. :dance3:I could just send them now and you can return them on the cruise.:)

We still have high school football playoffs as well. We are in Texas also but my son's school is in Division II 5A. Texas is so huge, they have to divide 5A into 2 divisions otherwise we would be playing after Christmas:eek:

It's been a fun run so far so hopefully they will win on Saturday.

Which school? I hope you had a victory. There really is nothing quite like high school football in Texas.

If we do make it to the championship game it will be a very short road trip this year. With the game scheduled for Cowboy Stadium, we are only a 15 minute drive away.

Just making it through the rest of the posts and saw that you did win. Congrats!

Our anniversary is 3 days after Christmas, and I try to do the same thing. I picked the date because I wanted a Christmas wedding with all the beautiful greenery, poinsettias, and holly. But when it comes to the anniversary ... I hate for it to get lost in between Christmas and New Year's.

Lots of prayers for you and the rest of the family. Our sermon today was on Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the furnance. The minister reminded us that while we often pray for God to keep us from the fire (trials) of life, that when we are in the middle of the fire he is there with us. Fire is used to refine metals and improve them -- it comes out better than it went in. I hope that in the midst of this very difficult time you are finding comfort and strength from your family and your faith. My prayers that you come out even stronger than before.

First of all, Marcij, sending thoughts and prayers your way. :grouphug:

Second, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Ours was very low key, which was nice. I cooked and we did the leftover thing and lazed around the house for two days, and then we just had to get out of the house for some non-turkey related food. I also went with a friend to a couple of Black Friday sales but I was very underwhelmed so I ended up not getting anything except some PJs for DD.

We have been quite busy gearing up for our Christmas trip at Disney. We leave in 19 days!!! We've gotten DD's Christmas presents all taken care of (although how we are going to get them down there without her seeing is another issue) and are working on getting last minute stuff taken care of. Well, I hope everyone has a great week! :grouphug:

GOOD MORNING FELLOW CRUISERS!!

Marci, Prayers are with you for a speedy recovery. You are beautiful both inside and out!! We won't care if there is one hair on your head! It's YOU we want to see, not your hair! Just get well so we can actually meet!!!!!

Rose, we have traveled to my other sisters, my parents and they have come here too! With us all being apart, someone has to travel! Hoping next year, I can host and let everyone come here! We'll see! and Steve is a pharmacist for Rite Aid...and they are open 365 days a year! He has almost 20 years with them (actually more than that, he worked for them as a front end manager before he went back to school, but lost those years since he was away for 5 years. He would have about 3 more!)

Tammy, I think you are making the right decision to drive. There are just too many variables with flying now. Gear yourself up to enjoy the drive. Plan stops along the way, maybe a bit of sight seeing? Can't wait to see you at the port!

Crystal, Have an awesome trip! there is nothing like WDW at the holidays! We were there several years ago and actually was at USO on Christmas Day. It rained ALLL day! We were soaked, but loved the empty park! An idea, and what we did.....I typed up a letter from Santa that explained that he didn't want to leave all the gifts at the hotel because he knew we didn't have much room in the car. So he left a few DS games and some candy and the boys got the rest of the presents when we got home. When we were leaving the house to go to WDW, I made the excuse that I had to check the lights or something, so while everyone waited in the car, I came back in and put the rest of the gifts under the tree...but you could also ask a neighbor to put them out for you! Just an idea that might help!!

Now that everyone is back to school, the house is quiet this morning! I guess I'll shower and pudder around here, get a few things done! I am actually planning on making a Thanksgiving dinner today since I came home with NO leftovers! LOL Sad, isn't it? LOL But I want more dressing!

whoooo Hoooo!! Just booked CI&S for the Saturday before the cruise! It's becoming more and more real!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone! lots of posts to catch up on! always are when i've been too busy to read/chat! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! ours was quiet this year, we had an odd split with the kids this year so Katelynn got all of our attention for 4 days! lol the crazy parts about being a blended family!
Christmas stuff is slowly going up here! the lights are 99% up in the yard, but the light controller is not being cooperative! 3 chips are not working and they are not the easy ones to find/fix, so my hard working dh is having to make some adjustments! i'll post a link to this years show when we get everything up and running!
on that thought, does anyone know of another website that hosts videos? :confused3 since youtube settled a lot of our videos won't show on there anymore.. copyright fun, the annoying parts is when they just take it down and don't check with other sources first! I have 2 TSO songs and TSO actually promotes the idea of people using their songs in displays! :santa:

Marci, big hugs you and your family are in my prayers, lots of pixie dust for a quick recovery! :tink:

off to catch up! hope everyone has a good week!:hippie:
