Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

I couldn't move down south and completely give up fall.
It's my favorite time of year, it's just so pretty with all the leave changing!:goodvibes
(except for raking the leaves)

Yeah, this year we went from 70s to 30s in a matter of a couple of days (no wonder everyone is sick!!). However, we do get the Fall leaves on the trees for a couple months, so that is one good thing. :thumbsup2

Hi y'all :)

Hope it's not too late to jump in here.

We're book on the Dream for the 6/12 cruise. I actually booked it while on the Wonder in January with some friends. I've been semi-lurking here off and on since then. Whether or not we actually went on the cruise has been so iffy that I haven't jumped in here yet.

The past year has been so busy for us that I didn't think much about the cruise until about August. By then my husband was thinking we should take a year off from any big trips. So it was looking like we weren't going to go. He does this every year and we've still gone to WDW every year ;) The difference this year is that I agreed with him. As a matter fact I was going to call to cancel and get our deposit back and just kept forgetting. When I get around to cancel the cruise I looked at how much it would cost to book the cruise and realized what a deal we got by me booking in January that I hated the idea of passing up the deal. I love a good bargain ;) Since then I've been slowly bringing him around to the idea of the cruise again... same tactics I used every year to get us to WDW which he loves  We may still cancel - depends on what my daughter has going on this summer - but I doubt it:goodvibes

So... here's some of the pertinent stuff about us

It'll be Me (41 at cruise time), DH (33 at cruise time), and DD (17 at cruise time). We live in the DFW, TX area.

We're booked in cabin 6070. It'll only be my 2nd cruise and the first for my husband and daughter. My husband gets queasy on Test Track and Mission Space light. Won't do Everest with us. So I'm a bit nervous for him but cruising is such a perfect fit for him - don't HAVE to do anything, lots of food, can sleep in and not make rope drop. Plus he works in IT and half the time we're on vacation he has to take work related calls and hope on to a pc to do some stuff remotely. So a big plus of being on a cruise ship is that work CAN'T call him unless they shell out some money to pay for internet and at sea cell costs.. mwahaha.

Can't wait to get to know y'all and spend the next 6 months getting excited together about this cruise :goodvibes

:welcome: Glad you can join us. I'm Tammy (50 at cruisetime) and my DD Rachel will be with me (22 at cruisetime). We live in Southeastern Louisiana, not far to the north of New Orleans. This will be our 2nd Disney cruise and we just can't wait!! Hope to meet ya'll on board.

Welcome Aboard Tracy, I lived in Arlington until last June (09) before we decided to move down here to FL. I was actually just there for the World Series (for the only game the Rangers won) and miss it quite a bit at times (then I realize I'm only 45 min from WDW and feel better).

Hello Fellow Cruisers!!

Welcome to Tracy and family! I am Michele (43) DH Steve (46) Colton (16) and Connor (14) This will be our 4th Disney Cruise and we are SO looking forward to it! It seems there are quite a few teens on this cruise. I hope they call all get to know each other!

it's been snowing all day today and we have about 2 1/2 inches on the ground. not suppose to quit snowing until Wednesday? Sheesh. This is REALLY early for us. Usually the snow doesn't arrive until January and Christmas has never been white in the 13 years we've been in this area. It makes the Christmas lights look pretty though!

Heading to my nice warm bed to watch some TV....and catch some zzzzzz's!

Disney Dreaming....

I see you're from Arlington. We are just north of you in Bedford. I believe I have seen four or five families on this thread post that they are in the DFW area. We might have to have an early DIS meet before we even get to Florida.

I don't have any teenagers yet - nor do I have any girls. But there are definitely lots within this thread, so I bet your DD will find some friends to hang out with on board.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Wow, lots of post since Thanksgiving. That is wonderful.

Marci, our prayers are with you.

Welcome Tracy. I'm Teresa (enjoying my last couple months of being in my 30s while on the cruise), DH Kevin, DD Syndey will be 10, DS Ethan will be 8. We live in Des Moines, IA

Sorry to all that are having snow. I'm so thankful it hasn't dropped yet here. We had a very snowy winter last year, so I'm hoping for a mild one. As I've said before, we can only have 4 snow days or the kids will miss the end of school.

I'm so jealous of a Disney Christmas. We went around Christmas time when I was younger and it was magical. We went with my grandma the year after my grandpa died when I was in junior high, so Santa wasn't a issue by then. I hope some year I can take my kids, but I'm a little afraid of the crowds.

I got presents wrapped and under the tree yesterday while DH took the kids for a couple hours. Waiting for more boxes to arrive. Went to see Santa last night. I keep cherishing the moments because I fear the magic of Santa will come to an end in the next year or so. We had to see Santa to get DD to decide what she wanted to ask for from him. She doesn't have a big list, so the grandparents were getting ansy about wanting to finish shopping.

Only 2 more weeks of work for me, then off for the holidays. Need to take vacation time or lose it, so I saved it for the end of the year, when things are slow. Have a great week.

Yes, I have noticed also we have alot of folks from DFW area. We live in SA so kind of neighbors. We have family in Ft. Worth and friends in Mesquite.
I guess I should introduce us by name. I have posted several times but I cant rememember if I said who we are.

I'm Nancy 46 been a pharmacist a long time. My boys Aaron 21 and Nathan 18 and Melissa (son's girlfriend) 20 will be on the cruise. This is my 3rd cruise and my boys 2nd. Although, it is our 1st Disney cruse, so we are very excited!!! We will be on deck 6.

We look forward to meeting all of you!
Everyone have a great week:)

Hi Tracy! nice to see another fellow DFW'er!! I'm Tricia and my dh Chance and our 4 kids Lance 14, Bryan 13, Katelynn and Grace are both now 11, we live in Sachse, outside of Garland before you get to Wylie!

It got a bit cooler here today! lol actually chilly outside, and this will stick around for the next few days, haven't seen the weather in a couple of days but we MIGHT see a few flakes in our area monday/tuesday, course they may have changed their minds and we could be in for a lot!
It's official, we are done with Birthday season! Whew!! and i'm happy to say, i'm almost done Christmas shopping! :yay: only a few small things left to pick up for the kids and hubby!! Still need to shop for a few friends and extended family, but much better then usual!
Our Christmas lights are up and blinking!! took a lot more work this year, everything didn't really want to work right! :scared1: blown circuit chips, strings that just refused to work, the program not wanting to play nice with the computer.. but for the most part we are up and running!! I enjoy handing out candy canes to people who stop in and watch, the smiles make all the work worth while!
Have a great week everyone!:santa:

Welcome Tracy and family!! I will get you guys added to the first page list! :goodvibes

Hope everyone had a great weekend. We decorated Christmas cookies with our friends who also have a 6 year old (which was such entertainment) and finished out our Christmas shopping. Now, I'm just enjoying my last full week of work before vacation! Have a great week, everyone! :grouphug:

Thanks for the welcome :goodvibes

I would definately be up for a pre-Florida DFW DIS meet. My daughter was happy to hear that there will be plenty of teens around. She's already planning to hit any first night teen mixers on the cruise, finding some friends to hang out with and then not see us except for dinner, LOL.

Anyone who's gotten their Christmas shopping done - I'm impressed. We're having Christmas with my mom's family next Sunday since my 83 yr grandmother is leaving next week to spend 3 months in Florida with my uncle. And I'm still not done shopping for them! What do you get an 83 yr old woman who has everything she wants/needs? She only had 3 things on her list this year and my mom snagged claim on getting them :headache:

Definately not liking the chill in the air this morning. Did hear that they think the cold wet stuff won't make it this far south tomorrow night :cool1: Of course, this is Texas they could still change their mind and we'll get an ice storm lol.

Yeah, Atlanta has been miserably cold this week and now I hear that the forecast has snow (!!!!) for next Monday. Ei-yi-yi.

It's really cold here in Southern Louisiana too. Although no snow is forecast, we do have a hard freeze warning in effect for tonight and again for Sunday night. Of course, we don't get much snow here, but last year it snowed about 3 times. That's alot for us!

Stay warm everyone! Just think of where we'll be in 6 months - nice and warm on Castaway Cay :goodvibes

I love all the little previews they are putting out about the Dream. It sounds like Enchanted Garden is going to have a bit of a "show" like Animator's Palate with the day to night lighting changes. I had to skip Animator's Palate on the Wonder in January. Had it the first night and that's when I discovered Bonine is a miracle drug  Looking forward to getting to experience all the unique dining stuff this time. Right now I think I'm looking forward to eating at Royal Palace the most. The artist renderings have it looking amazing!

Hello Fellow Cruisers!!

Tracy, I too, get seasick the very first night, but then I am fine the rest of the cruise. Dunno why, but I do. I took something the first night of our second cruise and I could hardly stay awake the next day. Might have to see about seabands or a patch for the first night, then I can ditch it and not feel so groggy!

Love seeing all the videos too. Did you all see where DCL is taking kids from the Boys and Girls Club of Florida on a cruise? I think this is totally awesome! http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2010/12/surprise-youre-going-on-a-disney-cruise/

Do you all remember about a month ago I won tickets to the Ohio State vs Penn State game? Well, I entered another contest on the same site and I won again! LOL This time, Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati Bengals! LOL We are from Cleveland, and Cincy is about a 3 hour drive for us. Good seats too....18th row up from the field, about the 20 yard line. Only problem, again, is it's only 2 tickets. My sister and BIL live in Dayton, so maybe they could meet us and take the boys for the day....or Steve and Connor could go again and Colton and I could go visit with my sister. My only fear is that it's going to be freezing cold and snowing!! It's December 19th at 1pm. We'll have to figure it all out!

The snow finally stopped today and the sun came out! It felt SO good...even though it didn't get above 30f. Tomorrow it is suppose to get above freezing and stay there through Saturday, THEN the sky will fall! LOL Temps plumet, snow flies, and I am already thinking that the boys won't have school Monday. they have not said how much snow, but they keep saying Major Winter Storm. I better get more milk and bread. LOL

Gonna curl up with a cover and a hot tea! Have a great night!

That's the way the weather is here, too. We always get sick this time of the year, because of the weather. I remember last year, we went on a Disney cruise, and the weekend before we left, it snowed, then it was back to the 70's by the time we left for our trip.

Looking forward to getting our FE plans started after the holidays.

Also, I can't remember, but when do you get room numbers? When you pay in full? I haven't gotten mine yet, but will get it added to the list as soon as I get it.

Hello Cruisers!
I hope you are enjoying your December holidays!

I haven't book our June air travel and I'm panicking! Because I don't have enough December holiday plans to panic about, :rotfl:

I need your advice!
DIS says:

Disney recommends on departure day that you not book a flight before 12:30 PM. There are times when the ship is delayed at the Port and you run the risk of missing your flight. Rushing to get to the airport is not the way to end your Disney cruise vacation.

I agree. But if my best choice is a 1:15PM Southwest airlines flight, am I cutting it too close? Our other choice would be 9:45PM

1:15 would be great...but I'm not a morning person. I remember the debarking morning as being all business...get up at 7, eat at 8, off the ship by 9....That must mean we can get to MCO by 11 am right?

I need some moral support. Who thinks 1:15 pm will be fine? DH would not want to rent a car, see the Kenedy space center and take the 9:45 flight...um, that would be my choice! :)

Thanks if you have time to answer!

1:15 will be perfect. :thumbsup2 Your memory serves you correctly. You'll be off the ship by 9 am and should be at MCO between 10 and 11 (depending on your transportation and traffic). I would say that 1:15 is very safe. :)

Everyone have a good weekend!
