Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

Hey everyone. I've been reading along but just not posting much in the last five weeks.

Here's my background again, though I've been posting semi-regularly. I am DM 44, have DH 50, DS 15 in four days, and DS 11 who will be 12 in January. We live in the Dallas /Fort Worth Metroplex. This will be our sixth Disney cruise. I've been working at the same place for 23 years and love it. I'm the Chief Adminisrative Officer and I work all of the time.

October 8th I found out I have breast cancer. After two sets of biopsies, roundtables and other debates it was decided I should do a bi-lateral mastectomy with flap reconstruction (tissue taken from my abdomen to reconstruct). Sentinel node mapping showed two of the three nodes with small metastic cancers, so I'll have to do do chemo. Additional auxilary node removal showed no additioanl cancer in the rest of the nodes, which means I won't have to do radiation first. My prognosis should be good, and for that I feel thankful and Blessed.

Surgery was on the 15th and from what I've been told it's one of the worst surgeries to recover from. I'm doing as well as the docs hoped, walking around slowly with a stoop, trying to eat healthy and gaining strength for when I start chemo. They mentioned wanting to start right after Christmas which is fine with me. I don't know what kind of chemo, the strength of it, how many rounds etc. I'm praying that we can still take this cruise.

Anyway, if anyone has any experience with something similar, please pm me. I've found it is extremely helpful to talk to people who have experience with this. Since I've been involved from the first of this thread I thought it only right to let you know why there might be a female with no hair at the DIS meet!

I won't be able to plan the FE but I would like to be involved and I'll help in any way -- just don't want to be the sole organizer in case something happens and we can't make this trip.

Blessings to you all!

Prayers for you and your family. Hair or no hair, it will be great to meet you. Good luck with the treatment, and keep us posted.:goodvibes

Oh Marci! Here's lots of hugs for you::hug::grouphug::hug::grouphug::hug::grouphug::hug::grouphug::hug::grouphug:
I'm glad to hear that you're recovering as well as can be expected and that your prognosis is good.
Here's loads of good wishes and dust stuff for you:
:wizard:pixiedust::wizard:pixiedust::wizard:pixiedust::wizard:pixiedust:

Take good care of yourself and think postively:goodvibes
And make sure to check in every now and then to let us know how you're doing!

Marci, you are in my prayers for a complete and fast recovery:hug: I look forward to meeting you! And as my sister always says "look up and believe".

Tammy, it sounds like you made the right decision driving. We have driven to Florida many times from Texas and in some ways it was alot less stressful. We broke up the trip as well and had some of the best time as a family on the road.

As far as the high school football playoffs go, we are still in it. We won last Saturday and will play again this Saturday. My son's school is MacArthur, so if we happen to make it to the state game, we do have a road trip (from San Antonio). We have a very difficult game this week and possibly next week to get there however. We will see.

I wish we were able to go to Disney this Christmas
I've been thinking this last week about last Thanksgiving. We spent 8 days at Disneyworld and it was amazing:santa: Hopefully, we will be able to do it again soon.

Our anniversary is 3 days after Christmas, and I try to do the same thing. I picked the date because I wanted a Christmas wedding with all the beautiful greenery, poinsettias, and holly. But when it comes to the anniversary ... I hate for it to get lost in between Christmas and New Year's.

Sweet:cloud9: That must have been very nice.

First of all, Marcij, sending thoughts and prayers your way. :grouphug:

Second, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Ours was very low key, which was nice. I cooked and we did the leftover thing and lazed around the house for two days, and then we just had to get out of the house for some non-turkey related food. I also went with a friend to a couple of Black Friday sales but I was very underwhelmed so I ended up not getting anything except some PJs for DD.

I'd have to agree that the 2 times I've tried this it wasn't worth the hassle, I'm all for shopping online when I can.
Amazon.com is my favorite place to shop:surfweb:

We have been quite busy gearing up for our Christmas trip at Disney. We leave in 19 days!!! We've gotten DD's Christmas presents all taken care of (although how we are going to get them down there without her seeing is another issue) and are working on getting last minute stuff taken care of. Well, I hope everyone has a great week! :grouphug:

How awesome!:thumbsup2:yay:

Tammy, It was in September. They did more of the wand thingie and then patted down wherever it buzzed. I would probably drive, if it was me as this is a cruise with a departure time. Maybe next time you are just going to the parks you could try flying as if you arrive a day later, the parks have not left you standing on the dock! If you have a portable DVD player, just pack all your Disney movies. I listen to them all the way each trip. If you are not taking a DVD, load up with Disney music and play it for mood music all the way to the port!
Marci, I am sending you tons of pixie dust for a speedy recovery from the surgery with a burst of strength thrown in for an uneventful chemo treatment series. No hair, hair, doesn't matter. You will be on a Disney cruise,Dream(ing) of your Magic(al) future and Wonder(ing) what all the fuss was about (as Tink has sprinkled the ship again with the type of pixie dust that will erase all of you worries and not so Disney-like memories of your surgery and treatment!) and looking forward to a Fantasy life!
:tink:

GOOD MORNING FELLOW CRUISERS!!

Marci, Prayers are with you for a speedy recovery. You are beautiful both inside and out!! We won't care if there is one hair on your head! It's YOU we want to see, not your hair! Just get well so we can actually meet!!!!!

Rose, we have traveled to my other sisters, my parents and they have come here too! With us all being apart, someone has to travel! Hoping next year, I can host and let everyone come here! We'll see! and Steve is a pharmacist for Rite Aid...and they are open 365 days a year! He has almost 20 years with them (actually more than that, he worked for them as a front end manager before he went back to school, but lost those years since he was away for 5 years. He would have about 3 more!)

Wow! I'll bet it's nice when they come to your home:goodvibes
Although that is more work too.
You are all so close and dedicated! Many families I know would just skip trying to get together for the holidays if they were far apart and opt for a visit perhaps some other time of year, or perhaps for Thanksgiving but then not for Christmas ..... etc....
Great that you can all get together!:grouphug:

Ah, I remember now that you said your hubby was a pharmacist.
I can understand that someone needs to be around just in case.

Tammy, I think you are making the right decision to drive. There are just too many variables with flying now. Gear yourself up to enjoy the drive. Plan stops along the way, maybe a bit of sight seeing? Can't wait to see you at the port!

Crystal, Have an awesome trip! there is nothing like WDW at the holidays! We were there several years ago and actually was at USO on Christmas Day. It rained ALLL day! We were soaked, but loved the empty park! An idea, and what we did.....I typed up a letter from Santa that explained that he didn't want to leave all the gifts at the hotel because he knew we didn't have much room in the car. So he left a few DS games and some candy and the boys got the rest of the presents when we got home. When we were leaving the house to go to WDW, I made the excuse that I had to check the lights or something, so while everyone waited in the car, I came back in and put the rest of the gifts under the tree...but you could also ask a neighbor to put them out for you! Just an idea that might help!!

Now that everyone is back to school, the house is quiet this morning! I guess I'll shower and pudder around here, get a few things done! I am actually planning on making a Thanksgiving dinner today since I came home with NO leftovers! LOL Sad, isn't it? LOL But I want more dressing!

Disney Dreaming.....
Michele

What a cute idea from Santa!:santa:

Hi everyone! lots of posts to catch up on! always are when i've been too busy to read/chat! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! ours was quiet this year, we had an odd split with the kids this year so Katelynn got all of our attention for 4 days! lol the crazy parts about being a blended family!
Christmas stuff is slowly going up here! the lights are 99% up in the yard, but the light controller is not being cooperative! 3 chips are not working and they are not the easy ones to find/fix, so my hard working dh is having to make some adjustments! i'll post a link to this years show when we get everything up and running!
on that thought, does anyone know of another website that hosts videos? :confused3 since youtube settled a lot of our videos won't show on there anymore.. copyright fun, the annoying parts is when they just take it down and don't check with other sources first! I have 2 TSO songs and TSO actually promotes the idea of people using their songs in displays! :santa:

Marci, big hugs you and your family are in my prayers, lots of pixie dust for a quick recovery! :tink:

off to catch up! hope everyone has a good week!:hippie:

Whew! Blended families! :hug:Hugs to you for that!

My son might have wanted to have a father figure around when he was anywhere from 5 to about 14.
Then when I finally seriously dated my current BF and my DS was almost 16, he wanted nothing to do with another man around the house:headache:
They've been struggling with each other for years now:rolleyes:
We're all staying in the same cabin together on the cruise, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!:wizard:

Also, I believe that photobucket lets you post videos.

I was just thinking the same thing about page 100:cheer2:

It's been nice to meet everyone on this board. I'm looking forward to more!!
By the time we cruise, I will probably feel like I know all of you!

This is great! What a great way to pass time looking forward to the cruise:wizard::surfweb:

I'm sure we can make it a fun drive. When we drove to Disney World last May, we just took our time and stopped when we wanted to along the way. I really wanted to get to Port Canaveral the day before the cruise leaves, but not sure if I can since I would need to take the Friday off of work in order to do that. Hopefully by planning to get to the Port at about 10:30am on the 12th should give us enough time, even if we get slightly delayed. I guess I still have a lot of time to plan it out. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Oh, Yay..... it's December 1st and it snowed here today:headache:

Hoping for a light winter, as I'll be shoveling this year:sad2:

It's a nice 50 degrees here. It hasn't snowed here in forever!! We will be in New York in March so maybe we can see some then;)

Last year we actually had snow on Christmas Eve. It's the only white Christmas :santa: I have ever experienced, having spent my entire life in the north Texas area. (They get more in the panhandle, but hardly any here in Dallas-Fort Worth.)

It's so pretty -- but I REALLY don't like the cold.

Michele, thank you for the suggestion. Santa is going to try his best to get it all delivered at the hotel room (American Girl dolls finally popped onto DD's radar this year, so that's all she's asked for). It is a lot of boxes, but most of the accessories are fairly small (only really two big boxed items, and even those aren't too big). We'll see.

Oh, I would love a white Christmas Eve...how magical! That happened once when we lived in NC, but I don't recall it ever happening in Georgia. If it snows in Georgia, we usually get it in January or February.

I hope everyone has a great rest of the week. We've been busy, busy getting everything in order. Now, really the last remaining item is to finish our scrapbook autograph pages. Our goal was 17 and we've done 5, so we'll see how we do.

Believe me, there will still be plenty left over in March, and occasionally we've even had last of the season huge snow storms then:headache:

Sweet!:goodvibes

I used to say I don't mind snow but I really HATE being cold!
(House is always heated at 72 or so, since it's mine and I pay the heating bills....BF's house is never that warm:rolleyes:)

But now, with my bad back.... I hate the snow too, since I'll be shoveling it!
I hate when the plow comes and packs in all the heavy stuff at the end of the driveway:mad::headache:
Sometimes I hire a snowplow company, but the last few times it's just been such much $$$ for how many times they've come. Our winters haven't been as bad in the past few years.

But you never know.......

I'd love to move to NC someday or perhaps VA.
I still love having the seasons. But I could do with just a dusting of snow in the winter instead of what we get.

I couldn't move down south and completely give up fall.
It's my favorite time of year, it's just so pretty with all the leave changing!:goodvibes
(except for raking the leaves)
