Disney Dream July 4, 2012

This is my second try getting on this board. Hope i have better luck this time. Any way time is flying will be on board the dream early on the 4th. Leaving Maryland a day early and will chill in cocoa beach for a day. Our crew consists of me, dear wife granny, nurse becky and suoper 7yr grandson. He was wondering if any other kids in his age group will be sailing with us.
Regards to all on this board. Stay well
cheers,
Ducks Quck

I'll be leaving Maryland on the 3rd with 3 grandchildren...7 and 2 5 year olds.

Hello everyone! I'm so excited to be on this July 4th cruise with my granddaughter age 7 and 2 grandsons age 5! Our first! Any pointers for a first timer?

My biggest learning was not to try to do everything. On our first 7-day, I boarded the ship with copies of old Navigators and a mapped-out plan practically down to the hour. We were running from one thing to another -- we still had a good time, but it wasn't very relaxing. Now we try to book no more than one scheduled event per day and take it easy. Okay, so I did break that rule for the sea day, but I think I've built in enough time between reservations that it won't be rushed :) Oh, and don't stress if you don't get all the reservations that you want. All our other cruises were booked so close to the sail date that we were never able to book anything, but we were flexible with our dates and times and I don't remember ever missing out on something we wanted to do.

What is everyone doing in Nassau? We have been before and don't have any strong desire to do anything in particular.

Probably staying on the ship ;) We've been to Nassau before too and done the aquarium at Atlantis a couple of times. It was fun, but we're looking forward to checking out the new ship and don't feel any particular need to visit again. I heard the new building for the straw market is finally open -- hopefully this one will survive for a while!

We are planning to do the same thing. Have been to Nassau and could really care less to go again. My daughter and I might get off for an hour or so to do a little shopping, but other than that - it's a sea day for us. Am hoping to find the pool deck a bit less crowded, but am reading that it likely won't be.

Yeah, the only thing that gets us off the ship in Nassau these days is to stock up on a particular brand of coconut rum that is only sold in the Bahamas (Ron Ricardo, in case anyone is interested). I've also been reading about how the pools get really crowded, so good that you're already emotionally prepared for it :) I'm curious to finally see this terrible layout of the elevators next to the adult pool I've been reading about. I do want to study the deck plans more before getting to the ship so I can spend more time having fun and less time learning how to get around.

We spent time this afternoon doing that. This evening we started making our fish extender too. My daughter and I had a fun time designing a pocket that reflects her personality!

I was wondering if anyone was on Facebook? I thought it might be fun to get to know others in our group before the cruise so we could recognize each other and learn more about each others families. Have heard of others doing this with a lot of success. If interested, my name is Tricia Seitelbach Green on facebook.

Hummmm... rum you say? I might have to pick up a bottle of that.

It is very good. After our last trip, I had DH set up a blind tasting for me with the Ricardo, Malibu rum, and Parrot Bay. I picked out the Ricardo as my favorite by a wide margin. The Malibu was okay, but I thought the Parrot Bay was awful. YMMV, of course.

Welcome aboard! Have you heard about the Fish Extender gift exchange? Some first timers miss out on it. I'm organizing the exchange for our sailing. Let me know if you want more information about it.

hi barbara,
a belated welcome to this roll call. to add to the already good advice members have passed to you here is something we encountered the first time on a cruise. this was about the time the ships switched from sail to steam. We encountered what do we do now shock. Suggest reading some navigators the ship newspaper and get an idea of things to do especially the first day. Hope you can get an early boarding time this will give u a chance to enjoy lunch, explore the ship or just enjoy activities that are open.
more as i think of it

Yes - you win a cruise!!!! Cannot wait. We are lucky we leave for this trip in 58 days!!!!!

Happy Star Wars Day!

May the 4th be with you all. Be mindful of your feelings tomorrow. It's Revenge of the 5th.

hi all. all of a sudden time is passing by at warp speed 5. Was it only me or did anyone else happen to look at the other board and see the item from the board manager that stated that site will no longer support anything "facebook"? I believe the other board for our particular thread is basically dead as most of us are now on this one. Passed the facebook info to daug nurse becky as she is the computer social butterfly in the family. loved all the star wars chatter. really other than the line from Gone With the Wind "Frankly my dear i don't give a d---n" the most popular line from movies is drum roll "Luke I
am your father"
all take care
cheers,

hi all,
after the boat ride we are planning to take grandson to lego land fl. we will have a couple of extra days with nothing scheduled. any of u travel experts know of things to do in the area west of orlando and east of tampa. no disney or universal. saving that for later trip. 56 days to go. keep looking for my disney luggage tags in the mail.

Hi all, I am happy to say that my daughter (14) and I will be on this cruise as well. We have cruised many times before, but this is our first Disney cruise! I am very excited :) My hubby is staying home as he is not a "Disney guy" and doesn't want to go on a cruise that doesn't have a casino (I think he is crazy LOL) Can't wait to get to know everyone on here as we prepare for the trip
