These reports of doors being left open AFTER the maids clean are getting more frequent. If you leave your room for the parks and then the maid cleans your room, then you come back to find the door open, obviously it was the maid, not the guest.
I am very careful to the point of obsessive about making sure doors are locked at our resort, our car, our home, etc. Our first day at POR, we left at 10 am for the parks, just as the maid was about to clean our room. We came back at 7 pm. Our door was not shut all the way. It was obvious to anyone walking by that it was open. The maid opened the curtains and ALL THE LIGHTS were on, which I did not do, so anyone walking by would also know no one is in the room in case they wanted to pop in and steal something. And yes, theft occurs at Disney World.
Lucky for us, nothing was taken, but I did not like the thought of going to the parks each day wondering if our room was going to be left open at any time during our stay.
I reported this incident to the front desk twice in person and called it in as well. NOTHING was done. I did not want any compensation, all I wanted was that someone acknowlege my complaint and talk to the maids and tell them something very basic in mousekeeping training - Shut the door completely!
I only ask that the maid give my room and my possessions the same respect that I do by making sure the door is closed tightly each and every time. That is not too much to ask. Because of my experience and other maid related incidences I have read about, I am now requesting no maid service during our stays. I feel much better knowing there is no chance my door is open all day.
If anything had been taken from the OPs room, calling the police would have been justified imo. I have read of many incidences here where Disney has done nothing about theft in the rooms.
