DISNEY COLLEGE PROGRAM - A Spring 2013 Adventure! *COMPLETE* 11/20

Jess, you have sold me on Garden Grill! It looks SO good! So you can just ask for the kid's meal with yours?

Hey,

Yeah all Jess did was ask about getting the kids food too and they brought it! It was sooooo good!

Love

Mark

Jess - how would I go about having some "extra magic" available for my sister's trip next month? She is the mother of three, one being a severely handicapped 11 year old, that is in an open eyed coma and on a feeding tube. She cares for her 24/7 at home, with a hospital bed in their family room. Luckily she is a nurse, so she can keep her at home, but it is exhausting and very hard on her other children.

They are taking the train to WDW because my niece can't fly and staying on property for a few days. It is very hard to vacation with all her medical needs, but they want to try to spend some time together as a family.
While one parent goes to the parks with the other kids, one will stay at the resort with my niece. My sister is just looking forward to the rest, but it would be so nice if there might be something waiting in the room for her to enjoy. Just something to put a smile on her face.

Should I contact the concierge at the Polynesian or guest services?

Congrats on "earning your ears"!

You can absolutely contact the Polynesian concierge! They would definitely have some ideas. Also, the Disney florist is a great option. You can look at their website online and order something to have delivered to the room!
Also, make sure you get celebrating buttons! And then just talk to cast members and I'm sure they will be able to think of something :)

Garden Grill is on my wish list.

I'm sortof glad that you weren't impressed with Captain EO. I never have wanted to use up park time to see it and now that you seem to agree with that, I feel good about leaving it out of my touring plans.
But, shame on me! I have never seen Figment either! Sounds like I need to see that one. My sister did send me a Figment plushie when I was in college.

Don't forget to get enough sleep!! Everything is more fun when you are awake enough to enjoy it.

I was devastated to hear that Le Cellier doesn't serve the mashed potatoes any more. I am only eleven and I love to get the Filet Mingon with the potatoes as a side with the yummy sauce! And I agree the pretzel bread is amazing!!!! It's too bad that you only stay until August. I am am going in November and if you would still be there I would visit:(

Hi jess my DD and I have been reading your TR and loving it, thank you so much for sharing. We're from UK and DD really wants to do the international college programme when she's old enough. We are in Florida at the moment for 2 weeks and have been looking out for you, next Tuesday we're eating at Maya Grill so will check concierge before we check in to see if you are working. We were at Epcot today and DD is sure she saw Mark, I only saw the back of him but I'm pretty sure it was him. We were having magic photo pass shots at the time so couldn't say hello, it would have been so cool to talk to him. Enjoy your time on the CP,and hopefully we will get to say hi to you before we go back xx

March 28th, 2013 - Going to DAK and Work!

I woke up at 10 this morning and got ready! Mark and his friend Courtney were going to Animal Kingdom and I was going to join them until I had to go to work!

We picked up Courtney at Chatham and headed over to DAK DAK! I was so excited because I haven’t been there in a few weeks!

The first thing we did was go right to Pizzafari! I was super hungry so Disney pizza sounded really good! It tasted DELICIOUS! We all just talked over lunch and Courtney is SUPER nice. She is in my Communications class on Thursdays so I have met her briefly but we didn’t really talk much before today.

After that we went over to Kilimanjaro Safaris to get fastpasses. The spring break crowds were so bad that they were just HANDING us fastpasses! So we didn’t even have to use our ticket... which meant WE COULD GET ANOTHER ONE!!!

So we went to Dinosaur and got fastpasses. Then we walked over to Discovery Island so we could meet Russell and Dug! OH MY GOSH THEY’RE SO CUTE I JUST CAN’T STAND IT. Courtney never met them before so she was really excited.

dsc0036xo.jpg

The line was the perfect length so we could be back to Dinosaur to use our fastpasses right on time! We got on the ride and sat in row 3! It was super fun and SCARY!!! Our ride photo is just too funny.

dsc0038xm.jpg

Then we went over to Kilimanjaro Safaris and had about 15 minutes until our fastpass time. So what did we do to pass the time? WE GOT MICKEY BARS!!! They were so yummy and helped cool us off. The sun was getting really warm!

dsc0039hp.jpg

We got on our safari vehicle and we were in row 3, just like Dinosaur! This safari was AWESOME! There were so many animals that were EXTREMELY close to our vehicle!

dsc0040kra.jpg

dsc0042tf.jpg

The Giraffe actually crossed RIGHT in front of us. I couldn’t believe it! I have never been so close to a giraffe before in my life! Also, when he was walking away he tripped on a rock so he did a little gallop and gracefully pulled himself together and kept walking. I felt bad but IT WAS SO CUTE.

dsc0043wm.jpg

Another giraffe!

dsc0044yyr.jpg

Then BOTH OF THE LIONS WERE OUT. They were sleeping but we could easily see them both! The male lion was just laying on his back with his paws in the air. He looked very comfortable.

dsc0047pg.jpg

dsc0048zx.jpg

Then I took a picture of these guys because they could potentially be extinct soon. I had to capture the memory while I still could, of course.

dsc0049ml.jpg

The safari ended up lasting a little bit longer than expected because there was some back up ahead of us. I think there were animals crossing the street or something. It took about 35 minutes total to get through the entire attraction!

Right when we were done I headed over to Coronado! I said goodbye to Mark and Courtney and headed to work for my front desk shift.

img9674b.jpg

I worked the desk until 12:30 pm and then I headed home. I called Preston and caught up on journaling! Then it was sleep time! THREE DAY WEEKEND, COMIN’ UP!

Just wanted to say thanks for writing - I know I'm not the only one "living vicariously" through the report! I made the mistake of turning down the program when I was in college - I was young and stupid :rotfl2:

Hi Jess! I haven't commented lately but I am still loving your DCP updates!! You are doing so awesome with keeping up with it. I love hearing about your daily adventures, and I am so glad that you are taking advantage of living in WDW to the fullest! We love the Visa character meet- I have never seen a line and they take so many pictures for you to choose from. We went on our honeymoon, and it was Goofy and Minnie and Goofy acted out a marriage ceremony for us, lol! That is so cool that Courtney is friends with Rapunzel and the chipmunks. Congrats on earning your Concierge ears...it is so awesome that you get to amazing Disney knowledge and experience to help other people with their trips! Keep up the awesome work as a CM!! :thumbsup2

March 29th, 2013 - Tortuga Tavern and Epcot!

I got up at 10 this morning and got ready because I HAD THE DAY OFF! Surge and I were going to Magic Kingdom for a few hours in the morning and then I was meeting up with work friends at Epcot later in the day!

We took the monorail over to Magic Kingdom and then headed inside the park!

We decided that we wanted to go to a place that is only open seasonally (since it was a busy weekend after all) so we went to Tortuga Tavern!

dsc0053zp.jpg

I got a chicken burrito. It came with rice and black beans on it. It was PERFECT. That plus a little sour cream made for my perfect burrito and I was very satisfied. YAY TORTUGA TAVERN! Surge got the same thing.

dsc0052abt.jpg

After that we decided on Splash Mountain since we were in the area.

We looked out the back during the drop, which was definitely an interesting choice. It was fun! I like going on rides and taking a different perspective.

dsc0055zt.jpg

After that we went to Main Street USA and got some ice cream! Surge got the all American sundae and he said it may have been the best ice cream treat he has had at Disney EVER. It looked amazing!!

dsc0056fmo.jpg

I got the kid’s sundae with strawberry ice cream! It was so cute and so yummy!

dsc0059fdz.jpg

Then we walked over to Tomorrowland and through Fantasyland. We went in the Storybook Circus gift shop and I looked at the pins. I traded for a few and then bought two Haunted Mansion pins!

img9720fl.jpg

Then we walked through Fantasyland and the Emporium and I did some more pin trading. I was on a pin hunt today!

We left Magic Kingdom after that and Surge went to work. We saw the Iron Man 3 monorail on our way out!

img9695v.jpg

Then I headed to Epcot! I found out that my friend Vickie got accepted into Nursing school back home and I was SO excited for her!!!! She has been waiting on her acceptance letter for so long and I’m so happy that she got it! I had to call her and say congratulations!

WELCOME BACK TO EPCOT!

dsc0061tu.jpg

dsc0063hw.jpg

Once I got to Epcot I went to the pin trading stop again. I saw some people trading and I ended up getting a pretty good haul once again! I got a Mickey and Pluto Jungle Cruise pin, a red head pin from Pirates of the Caribbean, a Chip and Dale trolley pin, a Figment parking pin, and a Wild About Safety pin!

img9721v.jpg

img9722a.jpg

img9723r.jpg

I grabbed a berry trifle in the United Kingdom because I cannot resist. They are so delicious!!

Then I met up with my friends Tara and Erica in Morocco! I work with both of them at Coronado! We were pretty much just wandering around.

img9701k.jpg

I went back to the pin station and traded for a Princess and the Frog pin. Then we went on the Finding Nemo ride and went on the Universe of Energy! How relaxing.

dsc0065fr.jpg

img9707wa.jpg

img9713wl.jpg

After that I was feeling really exhausted so I went back to my apartment. I called Vick and talked to her some more. Then I went over to Mark’s apartment and organized my pins. Then Mark and I ran to Chick-fil-a and I just got some soup and fruit.

We went back to Patterson and I finished putting away my pins. Shane and Surge came home and then we just chilled and watched Big Bang Theory until it was time for bed!

Wow you are almost all caught up! I just love reading your updates! Wanna trade lives??? ;)

Yeah its nice to see Tortuga Tavern has obviously gotten nicer looking. The food actually looks like it is better now 2! Unfortunately I had a really bad experience with it back when it was el pirate e Pericio (I think that was the name). I ate there for lunch the last day of a trip back when I was in 4th grade and it wasn't very good. Right as we were getting ready to leave for the airport the next day I suddenly began to experience Flu-like symptoms. Now I absolutely can not get myself to want to eat there again. I actually still cringe when I walk by that location. For the longest time I thought I had gotten food poisoning from there but have since realized I just had an intense case of the flu. Regardless Im not a fan. However if other people like it and don't have issues there then more power to them and I hope they continue to like it. I've actually been thinking it might be time to go back there to get the virgin sangria (not a meal item but still a big deal).

Yay! I'm finally caught up! That took me like three days because I've been working 24/7 it seems! I had to ask the kids to be quiet this morning so I could focus and read! Priorities children! :rotfl2: Congrats on earning your coneirge ears and flying solo! I love your redhead POTC pin! Awesomesauce!:thumbsup2

I have the record the 'Chipmunk Vacation' song came from!
It is from the mid-eighties album 'Splashdance'. :)

I love seeing new updates! Thanks for sharing this exciting time with all of us! It is fun! :)

It sounds like you are having an amazing time! I would love to be able to go to Disney whenever I wanted. Reading your TR makes me want to be there so badly. Someday I will get back, until then I will read about your amazing time at WDW.

This is a great trip report! I don't post much, but wanted to let you know that I am enjoying reading about your time at Disney.
