Disney channel games 2009 dates???

I'm almost positive that the games will happen this year. If a good portion of all the disney stars are in the DCgames, then you would think that the production for their shows/tours and such will be worked around the dcgames. Atleast you would think that they would. You know what I mean? So lets just keep our hopes high, and hopefully theyll release info sooner than march.

I don't know. Disney really doesn't get any revenue directly from having the games. About the only income would be the concession and gift shop sales. And the folks who are more likely to purchase park tickets are those who already are planning a trip, so they would make that purchase anyway. They do, however, get revenue from the sales of projects that do go directly to DVD's, or projects for upcoming releases like HSM 3 last year. So you have to take into consideration that the schedules of directors and producers have to be worked into the equation too. I'm not getting my hopes up. Just my thoughts.

At this point I really don't care if they happen or not. I'm not buying the excuse that Disney does'nt know what the avalability is of the various DC Stars. It's only about 90 days away! Most of these people know where they are going to be months in advance. Those of us that need to book air travel or book DVC rooms which need to be booked way in advance are being mistreated. Disney needs to make an announcment soon, it is already way overdue. JMHO

BTW I'm the parent of a daughter that really wants to go to the games but is unable to plan accordingly due to the lack of information.

The young actors' commitments could scuttle the Orlando event, said Gary Marsh, president of entertainment for Disney Channels Worldwide.

"With the chaos of the schedules, I can't be sure," Marsh told me Friday when I asked if the event was on.

A decision on the games has to be made by March, a Disney Channel spokeswoman said.

Last year, the channel used the games to help promote "Camp Rock" with Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato. Miley Cyrus performed at the concert that concluded the games.



here are my thought's

as to them making money off of the games it's nothing compared to what disney spend's to get them to disney World who do you think pays for all of the stars to come to the world.
Disney has to pay for Plane tickets, Hotel, food, transportation and anything else that they do while they are there. ( at Least 40 somingthing kids, not tomention their families.)

I know that for Christmas they were having problems with the line up too, because of schedules as well.

Think about it cokes, shirt's, food, and autograph books and pen's are all that they sell. Compared to all of the plane tickets and everything else they have to spend on getting them down to orlando.

In all sweepstakes they also have a disclamier that in an event this doesn't happen somthing else will be awarded.

I would love to go to the games but if you look at it from a business side, well
I'm not going to say it.

I hope they change their minds and have them. I've had my ressies made since october, but not cancelling until I know for sure

The information came from Hal Boedeker's interview with Gary Marsh. When Disney Channel Games 2009 was not mentioned during the Totally New Year programming,something just didn't "feel right".Now we know for sure that DCG 2009 has been questionable all along.It would be easy to make a case for the Games EITHER happening or not happening.If Disney was close to a hundred per-cent sure they were not going to move forward with the Games,I think they would cancel now.They must feel there is a "reasonable" chance the Games will be eventually scheduled.On the other hand,this is VERY late in the "game" to not know whether the Games will be held or not.Production arrangements have to be made.Travel arrangements have to be made(Travel documents for the International Stars have to be done WELL in advance of the Games for example).If the decision was made to proceed with the Games in the next few weeks,I would think it would be EXTREMELY hard to get it all done unless a lot of work has already been done on a "just in case" basis.At least we now know the present status of DCG 2009. I think the best thing for everybody to do who wants the Games to happen would be to send Mr.Marsh a COMPLIMENTARY email expressing how much fun we have at the Disney Channel Games,how nice the Talent is to the Fans and to let him know there is a lot of interest in Disney Channel Games 2009 and we hope it will be possible for the Games to be held.His email address is gary.marsh@disney.com

I agree the direct revenue is probably a drop in the bucket, but our May trip is solely contingent on the Disney Channel Games. So that's a week at AKL, food, etc.

We only got to see the concert last year, but it was so much fun that we decided to return for the Games this year. (And *that* trip would not have happened without the Games.)

If the games *do* happen, and we make it in May, we'll buy AP's. And that increases the likelihood of a summer and a fall or winter trip.

So whether or not the games occur could affect this NJ family's travel plans for the next 15 months or so....

I don't think revenue made from Fans attending the actual taping at Walt Disney World is a factor.I think the vast majority of revenue brought in from the Disney Channel Games is from commercial revenue when the Games are aired.I really think scheduling is the reason.It has to be a headache.For instance,none of the High School Musical Cast was able to participate last year because they were in Utah filming HSM 3.Mitchell Musso was added at the very last minute last year when his schedule opened up.Dylan and Cole Sprouse were late arriving at the Games last year.I think Disney wants to hold the Games because they are a great marketing tool and positive public relations outlet for Disney Channel.The Games are a great way to promote new DC shows and Talent.The All-Star Party media event is a great publicity avenue.Again,I think about all we can do at this point is to let Mr.Marsh know that the Disney Channel Games has become an annual tradition for a lot of people and we really appreciate any efforts that can be made to continue that tradition. (I want my DCG too! )

But don't forget, the games are for charity also. They do the games for charity in a way. Don't they always give a check to one?

And yeah, it is also to promote new disney shows and such.

I am visiting Walt Disney World for the first time in late April this year. I have an 8 year son who watches the Disney Channel faithfully. He loved watching the Disney Channel Games last summer on TV. When I told him we were going to WDW this spring, he got really excited and asked if he would see any of the Disney Channel Stars. I told him that last year the Games were filmed during the last weekend of April and they might be again this year, he got really excited. We had planned out trip to go during Mickey’s Princess and Pirate Party and now that they have been cancelled, I would hate to tell him that the DCG have been cancelled as well.

Please don’t cancel the Games, a lot of people plan their trip for certain events at Disney, and I know Disney doesn’t want to break a lot of little hearts that are hoping for the Games to happen and the chance to see their favourite stars in real life.

I wish March would arrive so I could hear the final decision.

Hey everybody!!

I've been lurking this thread for awhile now. I just caught up and read the last few pages...

NOOO!!! oh, man. I really hope they have the DC Games!! I am a HUGE Disney fan, and last year I was able to go to the games and concert. I ran the Minnie Marathon and the games and the marathon dates were at the same time, so I got to see everybody!!

I'm pretty sure I still talk about the games on a daily basis. hahaha. They were a BLAST. I was only there for one day, but I wish I was there for the whole week.

If they don't have the DC Games this year, I will be so upset. I am a drama geek. haha. I am not in our spring musical because the probable dates conflicted with the games.... well... that...and sweeney todd isn't the greatest musical for a disney girl..... haha.

I spent over 1.5 hrs on the patio convincing my parents to let my sister and me go to Florida for the games. This included a powerpoint, negotiating, and being a tough saleswoman. Even if we do go, if my grades aren't above par, I have to pay for half of the trip. but it's worth it.

The DC Games last year were just so amazing. Like when I was leaving soarin' and the Jonas Brothers laughed at my jaw dropped mouth after seeing them. I wasn't even a big fan of their's......yet. hahhaha. oh what happens in a year..... now I am a HUGE, HUGE Jonas Brothers fan!! (but don't worry... since I wasn't really a fan when I saw all of the crazyyyy fans at the games last year, I learned to NOT be nuts like them.)

I will be e-mailing that man for sure!!

So we planned it out and decided we had enough money so we're going! Needless to say I am beyond excited. I have never been to Disney World before, let alone FL. Heck, I've never even flown before. But I've been reading these boards for a few weeks so I decided I'd join and introduce myself. I am very upset that the games might not be a go. Since she's working at WDW I told her to keep her ears open for any info. She hasn't said anything to me about them being cancelled so I am hoping they are still on. She can get us 50% off hotel rooms if she stays with us. So we're going to stay at the same place as the stars. This would be huge for us because the three of us are HUGE disney channel star fans [especially the jonas brothers, selena, and demi] I look forward to talking with everyone over the next few months!
