Cyrus no longer plans to attend a red carpet event at the resort Friday, Disney said Thursday. It would have been her first scheduled public event since Vanity Fair published photos this week that have thrown her status as a role model for young girls into question.

Miley Cyrus Cancels Disney Red-Carpet Appearance

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Miley Cyrus no longer plans to attend a red carpet event at Walt Disney World, in what would have been her first public appearance since Vanity Fair published controversial photos of her.

For weeks Cyrus had been scheduled to appear at the media party, along with dozens of other Disney Channel stars in town to film the "Disney Channel Games," a charity competition.

Disney did not elaborate on why Cyrus is no longer expected.

The 15-year-old star of "Hannah Montana" spent some time at the resort on Thursday, signing autographs for children and taking photos with Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

Cyrus was dressed in a modified sports jersey, rolled-up cutoff jeans and yellow sneakers.

The Vanity Fair photos, showing Cyrus' bare shoulders and back, were taken by renowned celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz.

She and the magazine defended the pictures, saying the singer, her parents and her handlers approved of the images during the shoot.

Cyrus said earlier this week that she was "embarrassed" by the pictures and apologized to fans.

Even not being there myself - I will agree with what you're saying about the lack of manners and non-parental involvement of the teens. Everyone has been saying how they've seen parents/adults dropping kids off at the WWOS this week and I can imagine it'll be like that for the concert too. I totally understand being a mega fan of a star, but when they act like fools with no regard for others it completely ruins it for everyone else. I would be mortified if I were unaware of the events and was staying at the AKL with those people running around like they've been. I can imagine WDW has received MANY complaints from resort guests this week. It's a shame. The parents should be ashamed.

We were there from about 10:00 - 12:00 yesterday and the Jonas girls pretty much ruined it for my party. I had my DD7 with me and two 14 year olds - all three were shocked and embarrassed for the girls that were screaming and pushing and generally being ugly to others. We watched some crazy teenager practically de-pants Cody Linley when he was nice enough to reach up and give her a hug. My 7 year old wanted no part of it so we moved over to the grassy area behind the tents (where we met some other DIS folks which was great). We got zero autographs in that time, but away from the left dugout where the crazy girls were it was fun to just watch the stars running around up close. As to Kyle Massey - we actually saw Dylan Sprouse being fairly unfriendly which was disappointing. For the camera question...security was SUPER clear, coming by to tell the girls in line pre-10:00AM about five times that Disney security was not working the concert, but OCSheriff was. There will be metal detectors and people will be getting wanded down. If you want to try and bring in a camera be prepared to either take it back to the car or throw it out - that is straight from the Disney security manager. We had a nice day after we left the games until we showed up for dinner at AKL where we had a rez and there was another horde of JB girls. It was ridiculous - they were there wandering the halls and crowding the lobby and entrance until after 10:00 when we left. I would say - just using common sense - there is no way Disney opens this taping up next year. We were not here last year so we are bummed that the environment that everyone spoke so much about was completely ruined. How sad for the JB that their fans are unable to control themselves - or that the parents of those fans haven't taught them basic common manners. We love the JB and the rest of the Disney stars - but the scene yesterday was just too much. Thanks again and again to all here who were so nice before and during the games. Don't know if I'll see any of you at the concert tomorrow and if anyone has two seats they want to trade for the field PM me. We are not going over to Epcot for the red carpet event tonight but I hope some of you here might so we can read the report. Thank you all!!!

Talk about rude!

I was at the snackbar, you know..that place with the mile long line! lol

Anyways, I am standing right behind 1 teen girl. I wait, as we all are, I glance to see where my daughter is standing (getting auto's) and I turn around, suddenly, there are 2 teen girls. I dont think much of it, maybe I just didnt see her the first time. I look at my daughter again and then turn around and I am behind 4 teen girls, all talking to each other. I decide, I am standing my ground. When the first girl moves forward, so do I until we are 2 people from counter. Then the girl to my left who appeared AFTER I was in line says, excuse me, Im in front of you. I said, you need to get to the back of the line..she then says "but Im with them". I said "you may be with them, but since you were NOT in front of me when I got in line, you need to step back"..the look this girl gave me was so funny....like "gosh, whats the problem with the old lady", lol

AS for Dylan, I do need to stand up for him. Last year, he was so moody....Cole was super happy. This year, I hardly saw Cole, however when he did appear, he was still happy. Dylan got on top of the left dug out and signed autographs for what seemed like 30 minutes, non stop. He played with the crowd by pretending to tell them where the Jonus bros were (miming)...I enjoyed his change of attitude from last year.

I did not see Kyle Massey this yesterday, but my kids and I have worked with him before and have met him quite a few times, he has always given 200% to his fans.

One last note:
I did notice a few stars NOT signing on their way out of the stadium...and we wondered why..but then turned on Radio Disney (8pm) and the host who was doing the show live from the games was doing on air interviews with some of the stars. I just fingued, they were still n the clock and couldnt stop.

Good for you! I just wish they'd remember that next time they try to pull a fast one on someone else.

thanks to all. this board has been great. planned to take a chance at games yesterday since previously couldnt make it - then got some great feedback about the age of the kids attending. My son is only 5 & after your reports I am thrilled I didnt drive 2.5 hours to hang out for 2.5 hours and then drive home 2.5 hours - it is really too bad that this year did probably ruin it for the future of the public and DC Games. Hope everyone has fun at the concert. I am totally looking forward to it - even though we were unable to get our seat tickets we are going to make the best of the field. The kids in our party will follow the behavior of the adults so if we make the best of it and have a good time so will they.

Im not sure that they will use metal detectors! That would take forever!

IDK if they were going to set them up today or if they are just going to hand wand but that is what security said yesterday. Another note, there are at least seven girls that security has tagged that will be greeted by the Sheriff if they return to WWOS - according to Disney security. They were saying that these girls went into restricted areas, which created a security threat for the stars, pushed, shoved, took pictures etc. And they were fairly clear that it was JB fans. SO UNFORTUNATE. These boys work hard and this is what they get. :-(

does anyone know what time the red carpet event is supposed to take place tonight?

it was supposed to be at wide world of sports, but has it changed to epcot?

First of all I just want to say "Thank you, thank you, and thank you!" to all on this board.

I have to say I thought Dylan was the best of all the stars yesterday. When the green team was not competing at around lunch time, and it was hot in the sun, he did stay out signing for over 30 minutes. No on else was even out. Also Jennifer Stone was a top notch star! The crew was getting ready to get heavy equipment to remove stuff from the field and the stars were asked to leave due to danger. Jennifer asked one of the Disney people if she could go into the stands to sign more autographs for the fans and she stayed after we left which was between 7 and 7:30.

I asked my dd8 if she ever got bored during the day, and she said no. It's just fun to see the stars walking around in the field. Also she said her favorite thing to see was when I think Moises lost his shoe and Jake T. Austin ran off with it. She was with her brother when this happened , so I am not sure what she's talking about. And I don't think that she was including when Dylan signed her poster and said he was going to register it (put the R with a circle around it) because it was so good and the hug he gave her.

DD15 was disappointed because Joe did not come by to sign at the end of the day, Kevin and Nick did, but they were rushed off quickly and security said "you can only get one thing signed" but Nick did not get to sign anything for her.

At the end we got, David Henrie, Mitchel Musso, Chelsea Staub, Mark Musso. Can't remember anyone else. My ds was disappointed not to get Selena's.

There was a much bigger crowd than when we picked up our tickets on Tues. and the teenagers were more aggressive. One other thing that kind of bothered me was that there were a few pre-school boys that really did not care about being there and their moms let them run and play chase on the lawn area to the point of trampling posters that my dd15 had spent numerous hours on and had signed by the JoBros at another venue, (but she takes them to all the concerts, where Kevin has pointed to them on a couple of occasions). One of the boys almost fell on my son, who was lying down on a blanket and several times ran into other people. I just felt that the moms should have tag teamed to take the boys to a place where they could've run freely without the possibility of someone getting hurt.

But all in all,We had a GREAT day! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Looking forward to Saturday.:rockband:

well i figured since the rest of the DC games were at the WWOS the red carpet would be there too, but an earlier post said they would take place at epcot

WOW! thats crazy to hear about the JB fans in AKL. Last year, the three brothers were able to walk across the middle of the lobby with no body bothering them! My mom even saw Nick in a hallway and he said "hi, how are you?"! Also, with the sprouse twins....last year i think it was Cole who had a bit of a tude....I was sitting in the lobby and he walked around my chair a few times and looked at me almost saying "dont you KNOW who i am?" He also signed an autograph for a little boy at the hotel without a smile or a word. I wasnt impressed. Neither twin signed at the concert but Kyle Massey was GREAT with fans. The concert last year was cool and alot of celebs signed autographs if you are on the field! Good LUCK!:goodvibes
