if you have a carry on bag, does it go under the bus or with you on the bus? I know a purse or backpack would stay with you, I'm not sure about a regular carry on. Leaving in the morning and I don't know if I can put valuables in my bag or not. Thanks in advance.

We've always taken our carry on with us on the bus. I suppose you could have it placed underneath the bus, if you wish. You claim it from the driver once at the port.

Personally, I wouldn't put valuables in a bag that I was handing over to the porters at the port.

Thanks. I want to take it on the bus, I wasn't sure if they allow it or if there's space for it. I wasn't planning on giving it to a porter, I want to keep it with me when I board.

We used the DCL buses two weeks ago. There is limited storage on the bus. There are a few overhead cubicles that are quite small. The bus driver advised us to keep any thing of value with us and not place it in the luggage area under the bus as he could not guarantee it would not be damaged. We just kept our carry-ons on our laps for the ride to the port.

A proper carryon bag, like a rollerbag, has to go under the bus. There's just no room on the bus. That doesn't mean you have to keep valuables out of it, though. You give it to the bus driver, s/he puts it under, and then the reverse when you get to the port.

This is very true. Our carry-ons were more like tote bags/backpacks than roller bags. As I mentioned before, the cubicles overhead are very small. We could not even fit our bags up there. I would still be careful as to what you give to the driver for storing under the bus. On our last trip I watched the bus driver next to us throwing bags into the cargo area. If you have bottles of wine or beer I would definitely carry them on the bus with you.
