My mom said it followed the book pretty closely with a few exceptions obviously. Movies can never stay 100% true to the book.

I'll judge it for myself... from the previews it doesn't look like it...

I wanna read Scott Smith's other book... I dunno what it's called though.

I haven't read the book so I wouldn't know, :confused3 hopefully you like the movie.

It was a start for me... reading that is..

In November I borrowed Memoirs of a Geisha from my cousin to read. It took forever. Loved it though... Then I either finished off From a Buick 8 by Stephen King (which I started reading like 2 years ago) or read Darkest Evening of the Year or something by Dean Koonz (then read the other)...

I asked for 30 Days of Night for Christmas... got that read it.. my cousin told me to get the Ruins... so I did.. read that.. I waited for it to scare me... didn't... then started reading Cell by Stephen King... haven't finished it yet...

I lost my reading energy... LOL!

Hello Everyone!! I haven't checked in because I have been super busy (I work full time and go to school 1/2 time.)

The second thing is that I am down 7.2 pounds!!! YAY AGAIN!!!
I have been following my WW points and walking!!!

I'm not sure what a good goal would be for me to lose before my trip.
:confused3

Hope everyone else is doing really well!!!

Is it too late to join? I really need some motivation!! I'm Lynn from SC. I want to get down to 135, but my immediate goal is 145 before our June 5 trip to WDW. I want to fit into all my cute vacation clothes. I'm starting out at 160.4 (as of this morning).
My hubby and I are starting the Couch to 5K plan. On the other two days I'll do the Elipti-kill and my weight training. I'm trying to *** my veggies, but I'm having a hard time. My biggest culprit is eating at night. I'll do fine all day, but about 4 PM I am famished. And then I just start eating everything in sight.
Looking forward to getting to know you all!!

I don't think it is ever too late to join!

Why do you have a hard time eating veggies?

How does your day usually go when it comes to eating? What times do you eat, what do you eat, etc. I used to have the problem where I'd eat a lot later in the day... well much later...

Try drinking water... a lot of times people's bodies confuse thirst for hunger... and also if you fill up your belly with water there is less space for food anyways.

I have one thirty minute break at work so any snacks I have have to be portable. I love apples, but mushy slices in my pocket, just aren't cutting it!! I've tried having a salad for supper, but I'm just so darn hungry but then I have to have something solid.
I do great on water!! In fact, I get really thirsty when I don't have enough.

Here's my normal day and you can see where I go wrong.

Breakfast :small fat free yogurt with grapenuts and 1/2 banana
Lunch: lean pocket and 10 yogurt raisin (my little sweet treat)
Then it's cheese crackers while waiting for dinner then big dinner with a fudgie pop, then usually pretzels or popcorn while we watch TV.

I'd like to put more of my calories into the first of my day, but if I ask to go to the back to eat, I feel like everyone is thinking, "Does she really need to eat more?" (Probably just my problem.)

I'd appreciate any tips you can share. Hope everyone is having a awesome, skinny day!!!

I'm pretty good with the eating part of a healthy lifestyle.. the exercising, I'm no good.

Do you know how many calories earlier in the day you are consuming? I mean everything before dinner?

I would eat a high fiber cereal for breakfast if I were you. If you like your yogurt, I'd get plain FiberOne and mix it in with your yogurt. This will really help you stay full longer. But I would do cereal as cereal and milk. But really chew your food. Try to take your time and chew a lot. (FYI regular FiberOne is really bland, so I picked up some "flavored" FiberOne and a South Beach Diet cereal to mix it up.)

What do you do for your job? I find it really difficult at my job to get snacks in. I work in a clothing store and am constantly running around trying to get everything done and rarely ever step in the back.

You said you like apples, why don't you put your apple slices in something like a Tupperware container? It will help them from getting mushy. Sprinkle a lil lemon juice on them also.

I would steer clear of the Lean Pockets... even though they say "lean" they aren't good for you. Try getting Healthy Choice, SmartOnes, Lean Cuisine for lunch instead. They still aren't the best, but they are fast and quick. This is what I usually bring to work for a meal. Some are really good and some are bad! If you can, try the South Beach Diet wraps, salads or subs. In my grocery store they are with the... god what are they called... Lunchables or something. They keep me full for a long time... and your getting fiber and protein and not so much fat.

I don't know much about those yogurt raisens, but why not have a yogurt with lunch and put raisens in it? This will be more filling!

How long is your drive home from work? This may be a good time to have a snack. I think bananas are really good at filling you up. Plus they are portable!

Try to avoid cheese and crackers. Cheese is really high in fat and calories. But if you must, get whole wheat crackers and where I live you can get low calorie cheeses. They are really good, except the Sharp doesn't come in Extra...

As for your dinner, try measuring your food out. This may seem a bit over the top, but it really helps me keep control of my portions! If you don't have a scale (mine is MIA) then use some of the general rules of thumb for measuring meat... a service is about the size of a deck of cards. It doesn't seem like a lot if you are used to eating more. Take out your measuring cups and measure your pasta, sauces, veggies, etc.

I know the deal with salads... I HATE SALADS! They don't fill me up either. I've been eating them because lettuce is a cheap veggie and its fast to prepare. But there are all sorts of veggies out there. Broccoli, asparagus, peas, green/red/orange peppers.

I'd eliminate pretzels from your kitchen if I were you. They can add up fast in calories. How do you make your popcorn? Is it the type in the lil microwavable bag? Popcorn is a filling low calorie food if you don't load it up with butter. Generally I would buy the buttery microwavable kind. It was about 40 calories a cup. With 3 servings in a bag, that makes only 120 calories for the whole thing (which I can't eat, but that's beside the point). But my mom buys the popcorn... I don't know what it is, its just popcorn... you take a couple scoops and pop it. Anyways, with that, instead of using butter on it, I'll dunk my popcorn in hot sauce (which I love) or buy some Laughing Cow Cheese and put a wee bit on each piece. Laughing Cow Cheese is a good alternative to most cheeses because there is only 35 calories in a wedge.

I would set a time during the night... 2 to 3 hours before you go to bed and say NO FOOD AFTER... whatever time it is... Mine is 7 pm. When I did this, I didn't lose any weight, but I stopped putting on weight! Now I know things don't always work out like that (like at my job I may not be able to take my dinner break until after 7).

And like I said earlier, take your time to chew your food. Sometimes people eat more because they didn't get their... this sounds bad.. oral fixation on. I have that problem. I have to chew and chew and chew or I eat more. Also it takes some time for your body to recognize that there is food in it.

But the biggest thing is to just watch your portions. At first you will feel hungry... your body needs to readjust to not having so much stuff in it. But you also need to make sure you are getting enough calories and nutrients in during the day.

I take a multivitamin every day and 1000 mg of calcium a day. I heard that taking a calcium suppliment can help you lose weight. So I started and it does help me lose a couple extra pounds (I know this because I was taking them, and ran out... didn't change anything in my diet except for no calcium and I stopped losing weight). If you plan to get or already do have a calcium suppliment there are somethings you want to consider... Calcium is no good to your body without magnesium and vitamin D. I get mine from the Vitamin Shoppe.

I personally found that posting what you eat online in a thread like this really helps you lose weight and keep things under control. So perhaps if you do that it might help and we can give you our advice on maybe what will help or not. Also, I'm part of SparkPeople. I don't know if you heard of them before. It is a website that has all sorts of tools to help you lose weight! Plus there are message boards where you can go and talk about anything and everything or get help. If you haven't, check it out. You can use it to help you figure out your calories per day. My name is Beck_Why on there in case you wanna search for me!

What a excellent post! I work in a bookstore so I am constantly on the floor and on my feet.

Thanks for all the info!! Of course, now what do I do with my freezer full of Lean pockets?:rotfl: My hubby found a good sale. I'll have to check on the South beach stuff. I have a very strict budget.

I think if I could figure somehow to have a good snack in the car on the way home and then not eat until supper, I'd do better. When I'm hungry and walk into this house, I'm out of control.

Thanks again for all the helpful info!

Beckwhy,
I agree with you about the Laughing Cow Cheese. I never thought about using it with popcorn, but I love it on a roast beef sandwich!!! And the light kind is only 1 weight watcher point!!

I just got back from walking so that makes 2 days this week!!! (I count my week starting Friday because I weigh on Thursday)

I thought of the Laughing Cow Cheese and popcorn because you can buy that cheddar popcorn in the store.

Lynn... the South Beach Diet foods are a bit on the expensive side. I get mine at our local Walmart and they are $2.50 a piece. At a regular grocery store they are about $3 on sale. I buy the Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine, etc ones when they go on sale and there are always coupons in the paper for them.

You can very well make similar foods to that of the South Beach Diet wraps and subs with everyday stuff. For example, I'll pick up whole wheat wraps, sliced chicken breast (I haven't tried the canned stuff yet or you can use left over chicken breast and shred it), low fat Caesar dressing (I think I get Ken's), and some parmesian cheese... and there you go... a wrap! It'll be a lot bigger than the wraps you get for SBD though, so I'd only eat one. I also through some lettuce on there too! But that's just an example!

I have decided that I'll be making some of my own meals, sorta. I have Boca burgers at home and rarely eat them. So I picked up some whole wheat rolls and will freeze them individually. When I go to work I'll take a Boca burger out of the freezer and a roll. I'll also take a little Tupperware and fill one with some veggies, like broccoli and a lil dab of butter and another with maybe some diced pineapple, fruit cocktail, etc. When I get to work I'll drop my Boca burger in the freeze with my broccoli and put the fruit in the fridge and leave the roll out to thaw. Then when dinner/lunch comes around I have a lil healthy meal!

Lynn you said you work in a book store, so you know, if you bring your apple slices or baby carrots (EEKK!) or lil snack items like that, every time you step into the back to get something or use the restroom or what have you, grab a piece and munch. I have started to do this at my job. I keeps you energized all day!

And I'll add a lil bit here... I did go for a hike yesterday with my mom... 35 minutes! I forgot the week here starts on Friday! LOL!

Lynn: I'll be posting what I eat in the thread called "Dieting for Disney" but I'll post todays here so you can see.

Well, I think I'm going to post what I eat because I seem to do better losing weight if all you people are seeing what I'm eating!

Of course with my sleeping problems... I didn't fall asleep until 1 or 2 this morning (even though I was in bed at 11) and I took a sleep aid. Don't ask what was on my mind. Anyways, kept waking up and having a hard time falling asleep... anyways, woke up at noon.:rolleyes1

So here we go:
Lunch:
1 C salad mix w/ 10 sprays salad spritzer (which I love.. you don't get too much dressing!)
1 C cantaloupe
1/3 C tuna salad on whole wheat
Snacks:
2 chocolate chip cookies
1 oz potato chips (wasabi flavor so I burn more calories ;))
Dinner:
1/4 C Lloyd's Pulled Pork
1 whole wheat roll
.5 C baked beans
10 baby carrots
1/2 C cantaloupe

That puts me at a total of 1100 calories for the day. I'm gonna go have popcorn tonight while I watch Revenge of the Sith and probably some pineapple!

I don't always eat the healthiest *cough* potato chips and choco chip cookies. But I do eat a lot as you can see!

And I know I say I don't eat after 7, but since I'm low on calories (which I usually always am... I try to eat between 1200 and 1500 a day) I'm gonna throw in some popcorn later! Of course I wouldn't be low had I woken up early and ate breakfast!

Hi everyone, here's my story, I'm about 50 lbs overweight, I have a muscular disease that limits my exercise quite a bit. I work at a bank, where EVERYONE loves to eat, and not good stuff either. I don't have a vacation planned since I go whenever, I like going over there so I can walk around the park, get at least a little exercise. I just need some extra support with this, since I won't get it at work. Thanks for listening, and hope to see you at the parks!! :wizard: :dance3:

I worked at a bank for awhile as well. I could not believe how much eating went on. Someone brought pastries every day!! I am pulling for you. :thumbsup2

Welcome to bouncycat and nts4wdw. Glad you all joined us.
This weekend has been interesting. My DD is feeling better but still getting her breathing treatments. Yesterday I did a 20 min. workout to Turbo Jam. And today my arms hurt:lmao: I worked all day today and only had time for a quick lunch. (I packed a turkey sandwich yogurt and an apple. and no ice cream ) (for those newcomers work in an ice cream shoppe)

All and all not a bad weekend

I find it so hard to keep on this diet when I have bronchitis! I had to have a regular pop this morning to "coat" my stomach to stop me from getting sick everywhere. Sorry if that was TMI. But being the great person I am lol...I decided to go and stick it out. I felt so sick all day long and battling a fever didn't help.

So when I am sick I try to stick to a diet but it is hard. I hope everyone had a good weekend! And welcome to the newbies!!
