We just joined the DVC (the ink is still wet!) -- I received my member guidebook a couple days ago and noticed that the accomodations don't include a dishwasher.

Do any of the DVC properties/rooms have dishwashers (other than myself, of course, the designated "dish washer" at our house). LOL.

Thanks...........

All one and two bedrooms have ELECTRIC dishwashers. Only the studios do not
Welcome Home!

"Welcome Home" - you'll even find a start-up supply of dishwashing detergent. It's usually good for one wash. After that, you're on your own! :)

I don't think we've ever bought dishwashing detergent, there has been a whole box in the units. Is this something new? Diana

If you need more dishwasher detergent or dish washing liquid, you can call housekeeping and get more.

If you run out of laundry detergent, coffee, shampoo or bar soap, you have to wait until T&T Day, Full Cleaning Day or buy/bring your own. You only get a "start up" supply of those things.

Writing to agree with Carol.
We've been DVC members since 1993 and we've always had a full box of dishwasher detergent. The last time we were at WDW was March. We stayed at OKW and VWL; both had a full box of dishwasher detergent.

It's the laudry detergent that you only get one little box.

Interesting....stayed at VWL and BWV and only saw packets of dishwasher detergent....though there were several. I was sort of wondering about this myself! So I don't need to bring this?

Funny, my mom was just in awe earlier when I told her our villa will have a dishwasher. I have no idea what she was expecting, but she seemed shocked to find out that we have a stocked (dishes, pans, etc...) full kitchen with a dishwasher. My parents have never had a dishwasher. I have a feeling they are going to be amazed by how well kept and beautiful our villas are.

I wonder if they have changed how the dishwashing detergent is provided. What they had was a big (huge) container of it and usually had an almost full one. I wonder if a lot of those were "walking off" with people and they are switching to an individual use packet to avoid that. If people were taking pot holders and placemats, I can see the detergent disappearing too. They also might be in individual packets for "portion control" . I know that my DH usually puts about twice as much in as I do.

Either that - or the previous "tenant(s)" purchased a full size detergent for their use, didn't use it all and just left it. I've done that numerous times while renting at various villas. Hard to say -- I'm just REALLY GLAD there's a dishwasher (other than me!).

During previous stays at OKW when we have run out of dishwasher detergent, we called housekeeping and they brought a brand new full box.

Perhaps they use small packets at the newer properties because less use is made of the kitchens due to proximity of restaurants?

We run at least one load of dishes per day, so if we only had a small amount, we would have to call housekeeping to get more.

I agree though, that SOME people would take home a mostly full box of detergent, so that may be a factor.

Guidebook lists dishwashing supplies as a provided item, not included in the "start up" supply list.

We once had a problem with the dishwasher. The indication from the engineer who came is that they want members to use the dishwashing powder they provide. If they don't provide it, they are worried about people just using the liquid soap or other products that will ruin the machines.

For a short time they supplied dishwasher detergent packets, then they went to the boxed stuff. Originally it came in a plastic round container. This is at Old Key West. They had packets at Vero when we were there.

We've never used the dishwasher while using DVC. We often have a light breakfast in the room but inevitably are out for lunch and dinner. Who wants to do serious cooking on vacation??? :) ......

You don't need to do serious cooking to use a dishwasher.
Even light cooking requires dishes.

Actually I think I only ran the dishwasher once on our Jan. trip....I just kept using glasses, etc...until there weren't any left then ran it. Though at the time I had never run a dishwasher before and wasn't sure I was doing it right! Since then I got one for home....best thing ever invented by man, the automatic dishwasher!

Whatever they supply seems to be some super heavy duty stuff.....personally I was concerned about the chemicals. But I don't think I'd worry about it so much now (even though we do use the natural stuff at home). Hey, one less thing to pack!

Don't worry, the last rinses take care of the chemicals.
What is a natural dishwasher detergent? I have never ever seen that one.

What I use is Shaklee, but there's also one by Seventh Generation, I think. The latter kind is available at places like Whole Foods, health food stores, etc... not sure exactly what the difference is, though I knew at one time!

The Shaklee is also super concentrated...only takes a teaspoon or so. I've had my dishwasher since May and except for one box of Cascade (which was gone in a month or so) I have been using this....have yet to use up one box.

But anyway....this is totally off topic. If anyone else is interested in discussing detergent we can pm. (not that I find this that interesting....)

Thanks for the info. Shaklee is posphate free and cholrine free, but, not quite natural.
