Cute: I love the rainbow fabric. I just bought some shamrock fabric to add to my list of unfinished projects.

Ok Moms, I need some help. Jacob was outside playing and a couple of middle-schoolers starting throwing rocks at him and his friend. He threw one back and smashed the side window of our neighbor's van. How far off the deep end should we go? We have each talked to him about decisions and how you have to think through them. DH wants him to work to pay us back the cost of replacing the window (between $200-$300). My FIL says we are being way too harsh and what do you expect an 8 year old to do when 13 year olds are throwing rocks at him. Yesterday I gave him a brush and pail of vinegar water and he scrubbed the tiles in the kitchen. He has always been a good kid and never in trouble so I really don't know how long to punish him. Long enough that he "gets" it but not too long that it's unfair. Any ideas would be appreciated.

That sounds like Lily. She feels incomplete without bows. Yesterday they were falling out and she ran to me crying. I took them off and then she REALLY started crying and said "NO! Bow on!"

A few days ago my not quite 2 yr old threw a fit when I tried to put a white bow in her hair. She kept pushing it away I saying 'NO! Pink bow!'. I couldn't believe it. I can't imagine what she's going to be like in another year.

Stupid question: do you use special paper to trace the pattern onto? I have been using regular copy paper but was wondering if there was something better. When I asked them about it at JoAnn's they looked at me like I had three heads.

Not stupid at all! I use regular tissue paper but sometimes have to tape pieces together. Some people use interfacing if they'll reuse the pattern many times. There's also a special kind of paper called Pattern Ease that is made for this. JoAnns online has something like it called Pattern Tracing Material. If you check you local JoAnns, I'd looke with the BTY interfacing.

As for asking questions at JoAnns, I don't even bother beyond simple "where would I find X" when they've moved things around yet again. The ladies at our local JAs are nice and some actually sew but in most cases I think they hire people without expecting them to have any knowledge of crafts/sewing.

If it's a first offense, I don't think I'd make him try to earn the money but adding a few extra chores does make sense so he knows it's not a minor infraction. I'm sure you discussed how he should handle the situation next time, i.e. getting a parent or other adult rather than throwing rocks back. That's something I've tried to stress with Zoe when she says "but he/she did it first". It's hard to get her to understand when she should stand up for herself and when she should get adult intervention. I've told her when someone could get hurt physically or property could get damaged, it's not tattling to get an adult. When it's just words, she can defend herself as long as she doesn't do anything she knows would get her in trouble no matter how "just" she thought the reason.

This is a new set I got Gracie from one of my favorite sellers on that unnamed auction site. She will wear this for breakfast at 1900 Park Fare next month.

What a doll! I love Alice and have been debating doing an Alice themed set or Tink for my DD when we got to DLR in May. Of course if I get my act together, I could get both done. I really like having the different characters going all around the outfit.

That is such a wonderful photo. I bet your DD felt like a real princess with the extra attention. I wish Disney's first African American "princess" movie was already out because I'd love to dress Zoe like her. I think by the time that movie is released, Zoe might think she's too old for that kind of dress up. I'm happy one of Tink's fairy friends looks AA, though.

Listen I think parents sometimes are too easy on kids. And I think you did the right thing. I teach my kids that no matter what someone does to you, you have to act appropriate. throwing rocks at anyone is unacceptable no matter what the reason. If these kids were throwing things at him, he should have got out of the situation and gone inside or go away. To teach him to "Fight back" is unreasonable. I think he is technically punished enough. but I think he should work off his $ mistake. so how about keeping a tally on the fridge. he takes out the garbage it is a $1. HE vaccums the living room a $1 etc. etc. that may make him think twice next time and it may take 2 months to pay that off. I think that he will learn his lesson. this is a lesson to take with him through life not just as a kid. Just think when he is able to drive a car and he makes a dent in the car, would you ask him to "work" off his mistake or just pay for it for him. You have to think of the big picture and not just the here and now!

this is a iron on from Walmart - actually two of them - Jack liked the shirt told me it was a little bit pirate a little bit princess and he was a little bit confused...

Second time appliquing and my first strip work/prairie point skirt - I usually add the strip work to a jumper... I love the way this came out!!!! This is for valentine's day and just wearing to the parks when we go...

My 16yo dd and I have been taking sewing classes together to refine our skills and learn more. I am working on a bag, but it is slow going since I am so busy.

Now I am so curious how your sewing rooms are set up. If anyone wants to share - a description or even a pic - I would be most appreciative. I am sure I am not the only one thinking this either.

But I am off to a Sewing Expo at the end of the month and I am so excited to get back to the fun.

OK, I finally finished the VD outfits and bows and we took the girls to the Ferry/beach for pictures. Well it was as windy as a huricane and the sun was so bright!!! Made for some interesting pictures....hehehehe So I thought I would post em. Sorry for so many!

I like this one cause you can see the cars lining up for the Ferry:

And finally, I bought stuff at Walmarshay for Valentine's but the girls wore it to school last week. Here they are:

Just wanted to share a picture of dd in her Valentine's Day outfit. The ruffles on the pants was a very last minute job. I decided to take a pair of her old pants that was getting a little short on her, and added ruffles on it last night...I think it turned out OK..dd loves it.

and here's a picture of dd and ds together:

Oh..and I also decided to make a new capri for the princess top that I made dd...the first pair of "capri" that I made turned out too short.

I have a few other things that I will post once I am done with them...

I will be back to catch up with the board in a little bit..

Sounds like you have it covered. I do agree with adding more chores so that he can feel as though he is helping to pay back for the cost of the window.

I finally uploaded the pics of my DD in the Mulan dress. She was a big hit, all the CM's kept saying "Hello Mulan" to her. Mulan herself got a big kick out of the dress and came over to the line took my DD by the hand and walked to the temple with her. Where they just had a lovely chat. Mulan did not seem to want my DD to leave

Cindee, Morgan is just STUNNING!!!! I love these pictures! Mulan was our favorite character to meet last year. She was sooo sweet! (She looked a bit different last year though! ) One of my favorite pictures was taken with her and Lyddy.

Love all of the ice fishing pictures, but we have had so much snow! I am SO over winter right now! So here is my summer fishing picture. (that is my Dsis in the background).

So I went fishing once and it completely freaked me out. wow, can't believe that fish., why is there a chain attached?

That is so funny! That is what you put the fish on when you catch them so they don't get away.

Brian caught this fish this summer, and had me take a picture of him holding it. I swear this thing turned to look at me and HISSED! It scared me half to death! I couldn't eat it after he cooked it up! I am no fish person, but I think he said it was a pike. The picture still creeps me out! (the fish part, not Brian!)

Yes it is a silky material. I think that is why it get's the "Is that PJs?" all the time. Hey, she likes it so I'm not going to worry about it. Of course I say that now, but every time she wears it I'll be freaking out. I'm going to add a ruffle to one of her skirts in the same fabric. That should look nice. Here's a better picture

I don't know that I'd make him work to pay back the whole amount myself. How did he take the talking to? I think it really depends on the child what punishment is appropriate, and only you and your husband know what that is. I think making him do extra work is a good idea, but I'm not sure I'd make him work for a month to pay it off. Have you discussed with him what he should have done in that situation? I would go through what happened with him and have him tell you what would have been a better response to what was happening. Make sure he knows you sympathize with him for what was happening (big kids throwing rocks at you was probably scary).

I am wondering what happened to these teenagers that were trying to hurt little 8 year olds though. Do you know who they were? Were you able to contact their parents?

Here is some more pic. The black onsie with the mickey head goes with a red tutu that I sewed white pompom's on. My 2 yr old is going to be Minnie Mouse for pirate and princess. I'll post a pic of older DD in her pirate costume. My friend made that costum. She did such a great job.
