I think I have it perfected! One of my student teachers said to me, "I just don't understand it.....all you do is look at them that funny way and they do what you want them to do." I patiently explained to her that it took weeks of groundwork at the beginning of school enforcing the rules consistently (and the students learning that I say what I mean and mean what I say) before raising my eyebrow and looking over the rim of my glasses had the magical effect it does today! I think I may have sprained my eyebrow because of over-use (with the end of school for students being the 30th of this month) I wonder how you ice an eyebrow!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Yep, that is the TRICK!!! You have to put your foot down firmly and consistently in the beginning. Make it clear that you will not budge. Only after that groundwork will the eyebrow work! Gotta do the work if you want and imposing look to actually do something!:teacher:

I was the LD resource teacher and he had NO disabilities at all, except his parents which really were big disabilities! The district is excellent at servicing students even if they don't actually qualify for anything. Administration did do it's best to contain the parents. The secretaries knew they were not to be put through to our phones in our rooms, they were never allowed to "roam" the school to get to our classes, etc. Thankfully our principal was excellent and was able to keep everything calm for the most part. It really is amazing though the things parents try to get away with! It never fails to shock me some of the things parents think should go on in a school. I would love to see some of them try and walk a day in a teacher's (or any other school personnel) shoes.

I will say, on a positive note, that even though I stay home now with my girls, teaching is a wonderful and rewarding job and I loved every minute of it. Like any other job you just have those moments that make you go hmmm. It keeps it interesting!

You are so right. I would be bored out of mind without all the daily "battles" with the characters I meet throughout the year!!!

Goodness your Lydia is SUCH a gorgeous girl!!!:goodvibes

The Binki Fairy visited our house for both of my girls. She takes all the binkis and leaves a present. It's very exciting. If she accidentally leaves a binki behind, you can't use it or she will take your presents back! Oh, dear! No one wants that to happen!

She's very popular in our family. My DN even dressed like her for Halloween one year!

I LOVE the Binki fairy!!! She works very well...unless mom overrides her...*ahem*;)

I've worked on tough "binki" cases before. Really, if rewarding and/or the Binki Fairy don't work, the best approach is to simply say "No more binki", throw them out and don't ever buy another one. Your kiddo may cry and be upset, but she'll get over it. She won't be traumatized for life. This is a time of emotional growth...and this is how it happens! She'll be far more traumatized as a high schooler with a binki habit! (I had a college roommate who sucked her thumb...constantly...it was weird...her thumb of choice was all withered and gross looking...seriously...ick) Mom and dad have to be tough and very firm. If there are tantrums, there needs to be consequences. Mean business! Your child WILL get over it. Once a child is old enough to talk through her binki, it's time to throw it out. It can cause pretty serious speech and dental issues.

i know. I'm very wicked. :flower3: for a good cause!!!

""There are a few tutorials on shirring (the gathered/smocked elasticy looking stuff) in Teresa's bookmarks. The link is in my siggy, just look under the "shirring" category.

It might be harder to make this style with a full skirt, unless you want to make the top and the skirt in 2 different pieces. If you make it all one piece and the skirt is full, then the top might not be snug enough. I hope that makes sense!""

I have an idea (for those too afraid to shirr - like me) What if you cut off a extra long piece and cut off the top (shirring ) leaving a 1 inch flap under the shirring. Then cut the shirring plus 1 inch to size of chest. Then you can loop together the bottom (dress part) and attach it to the top shirred just like you would attach a ruffle. There would be a seam under the last line of shirring, but you would have a nice full dress. I have done the regular way and it fit a lil snug just like the original poster, but I did find if I flare out in a triangel instead of gowing straing across it gives a little room also. I will also second that the straps allow for it to lay a bit straighter.

Thank you all for the nice welcome back. Also thanks for the compliments on Katie's customs. I had a huge reply (with quotes) typed out twice and my computer froze up and I lost it. So I am sorry. I do appreciate all of the kind words.

Here are the larger pictures as requested:)

Minnie Dress- this is New Look pattern #6796

Cinderella:
bigkatiecindiwbink.jpg

Oh my gosh! thats too funny! I have the exact same fabrics set out to make a dress for DD2 today!
Also-Id love to know what pattern was used to make the cinderella dress, where did you buy the fabric for it and what kinds of fabrics were used?
How long did it take you to make it?

I just scored the preshirred fabric in Ariel, Princesses and Tinkerbell. WooHoo
For those of you that already have the fabric, what do you plan on using for the straps?

I'm planning to use ribbon. Haven't made them yet though. I may actually wait and make them for next year (my DD's closet is pretty full right now)

Thank you:)

As for Miss. Katie's binki :confused3 I have no clue how to get rid of it. It is totally my fault. I got rid of it for 4 days and gave it back. :rolleyes1 She just seemed so grown up without it and I could not handle it. Now I am so sorry. She will not let it out of her site. We tried to give it to Cinderella at Disney World and Katie was all for it until we actually got there. She started screaming in the line "DON'T LET 'RELLA TAKE MY BINKI". She only has one left and it is the last one. I will not buy anymore! I explained to Katie today (after searching for 20 minutes to find the thing) that this is her last binki and when it is lost, there are no more binki's. Katie's response was- "when I lose my binki you go to Target and buy me a new one" :rotfl2: She will not take one to college right?

My DS just decided it was ok to get rid of the binki. We had been talking him into it for several weeks. (When you get to be a big boy and don't use a binki.... ) He decided it was ok, and we made a big deal out of it. We threw them all away and celebrated. He thought he was the biggest thing! I LOVE the idea of the binki fairy!

Ok, Since sleep is not something that is NOT going to happen tonight.......

I figured I would keep my mind busy, so I am working on the "Knot" Purse from YCMT. But I have a stupid question. Do you iron the fusible fleece to the outside or to the lining? Or does it matter? I am not using the interfacing (since I can't find any right now). I am a mess I know.:upsidedow

I'm not sure, but I hope you were able to get some rest last night, friend! Let us know when you hear something.

We had the same problem with Megan. I first told her she couldn't bring the paci out of her room and then she couldn't bring it out of her bed. It cut down on me having to look for it but she was happy as a clam sitting on her bed sucking on it. I can't quite remember how we eventually got rid of it but it took forever!

Thank you all for the advice on "the binki issue" :) Katie really needs to be done with it. Like I said before, I think it was mostly me. I am very codependent on her being a baby. It is so sad to see her growing up. Out of 4 kid she was my first, only and last baby. I do not want her to grow up. However, I also do not want her being made fun of or having horrible speech because of my issues :) So, I think I am going to try the binki fairy tonight (I love this idea) for a more gentle approach. If that doesn’t work I am going to have to go hard core and just take it like CampbellScot suggested. We have tried everything else including buying the Dora bike she so desperately wanted. I will let you all know how it goes tomorrow. Wish me luck, it may be a LONG night.

I can not wait to see your Minnie dress :goodvibes If anyone would like a pocket with the Mickey head embroidered on it, just let me know. I would be glad to send you one.

For the Cinderella pattern I used the Simplicity pattern #4949. It was pretty easy to follow. The only thing I had problem I had was with the top of the bodice. The instructions were very hard to read, so I had to ask my grandma for help. You do have to put in a zipper and also sleeves, but those tow things were pretty easy. The pattern calls for lace at the bottom, but I added a ruffle instead since I LOVE ruffles. I used a sparkly blue fabric and a shiny thin fabric (by the tulle), but I can not for the life of me remember what they are called. They are over by the satin not costum fabric. I will look for the cutting slip when I get home. I know I have it. I also linked the bodice with white cotton to make it more comfy for her to wear. It took me two days to make but hours wise probably 6. However, I did line it, top stitch and serge the entire thing. I also hand stitched all of the sequins around the bottom, waist and neckline.

Good Luck! If you have any problems with it ask away. I can try to help you.

Deann, Tnmom25, made Lyddy one without an underskirt, and I think it looks adorable. It's an Ariel one. I'll try to find teh picture for you.

Ok, I found it! Sometimes I forget to actually put mine and Heather's pictures in the Photobucket account, this one wasn't there, so I will add it now! Silly me!

I iron the fusible fleece to the outside and the interfacing to the lining. You've probably already figured it out by now though. :)

It cut down on me having to look for it but she was happy as a clam sitting on her bed sucking on it. I can't quite remember how we eventually got rid of it but it took forever!

I did a double layer only because Megan is tall and I wanted to make it a little bit longer. It would look fine with only one layer.

th_IMG_0157.jpg

Thanks to both of you, now I'm not sure what I'm going to do, they'rej both so cute!

I'm prettysure that tink fabric came shirred, if so alas, I think that the shape it is is just the shape it is. I have a similar style fabric for Lily and never even thought about how long the shirred part would be on her tiny self until I held it up to her. But it was a really cute minnie print and isn't it enticing to only have to sew 1 seam and add straps.

Aww I didn't see a minnie fabric yet! Alaysia loves minnie mouse! :goodvibes

So I've just had the best day. Here's pictures of what I've done.

thIMG_0627.jpg
I've turned my cellar office into a sewing room. Of course the sewing machine is still on the kitchen table, but at least all of the fabric and stuff are together in one room. Hopefully this means I can get somethings done faster.

Wow I am impressed. I am lucky to move anything around here! It looks really great I am sure you will love the room!

My dd8 stands like that too. She sticks out her tummy and pokes out her booty. My mom delicately calls it "sway-back." I guess. :confused3

BTW, I like it like it is. I am really proud of you for adopting her. That's really super.

Ya don't you love that stance? I am forever telling her to stand up but she just sticks her butt out further. :rotfl: TY we are really excited and hoping it all pans out and nothing pops out of the woodwork! Everything looks good but you never know who is going to pop up at the last minute and try and take them back. We also have her 16 month old brother who is a cuddle bear and about the cutest thing ever. :cloud9:

Update-

They are doing a quadrupile bypass on my Aunt tonight. I am told they have a wonderful surgeon.

Saying prayers for your aunt, your family, and the staff taking care of her. Please keep us updated when you can.

It seems okay, picture wise that is. the bottom would be fuller. The back is a bit lower then the front, causing the part at the butt to bubble. That is really what looks like is happening. Pull the back up a bit to see if that makes a difference. You could add straps if you like, or to tie at the shoulders (no accidental slippage).:

Ya that is what I originally thought as well. Unfortunately I do not think it is the case lol. I added straps and will post pictures later. She is in the bath right now. I have pulled it up in the back and it still does it. :confused3 DH says to live with it I am just going to probably let her wear it to play in and to the lake so whats the big deal.

Katie's response was- "when I lose my binki you go to Target and buy me a new one" :rotfl2: She will not take one to college right?

First off Katie is so adorable more so everytime I see her pictures! :goodvibes
I love her response to binkis being lost. And I have not met anyone in college that still has a binky so I think you might be safe. :rotfl:

I did get started on my Mickey storybook stripwork skirt today!
I can't wait to see it!

Ok, I found it! Sometimes I forget to actually put mine and Heather's pictures in the Photobucket account, this one wasn't there, so I will add it now! Silly me!

I love this! I acutally have that same book staring at me from my fabric box! LOL.

I did a double layer only because Megan is tall and I wanted to make it a little bit longer. It would look fine with only one layer.

th_IMG_0157.jpg
I realy like the double layer! I also really like the bambi fabric. I suppose you got it long ago and I couldn't find it now if I wanted to huh?

Best of luck to you. Just remember it will get better not worse. :goodvibes

My sister called again. They are moving my Aunt to a bigger hospital and plan to do surgery tonight. It is hard being so far away.
Tessa and I are praying for your aunt. Keep us updated on her progress!

So I've just had the best day. Here's pictures of what I've done.

How cool!! I'd love to have a nice organized space like that! I will...eventually.

Every time I see Katie, she just melts my heart! These are absolutely adorable!! I just love the Minnie dot dress. That pattern is so versatile! The Cinderella dress looks professionally done, great job!

I updated my Trip Report tonight too, (link in my signature)
She looks so pretty in her skirt! I was amazed at how vibrant the colors in the storybook panels stayed after washing.

You need to slow down on the TR! Don't you know you have to keep your fans waiting!?

i know. I'm very wicked. :flower3: for a good cause!!!

We had a little boy in the day care who had a binky up until he was about a year old. Then, we just didn't give it to him anymore. There was very minimal fussing about it. I was shocked when I went to his 3rd birthday party and he was walking around talking through his pacifier!! Apparently, his parents were still giving him his binky ALL the time! It was pretty funny to see.

I have an idea (for those too afraid to shirr - like me) What if you cut off a extra long piece and cut off the top (shirring ) leaving a 1 inch flap under the shirring. Yes, that's exactly what I was saying! If you try it, make sure you post a picture. I think it would be really cute!

Stephres: I saw your Alice dress a few pages back and just wanted to tell you that I LOOOOOVE it!!! It's absolutely adorable. That fabric is great and I love the style! I also loved the "booty shot" :rotfl:

GOOOOOD Morning Disboutiquer's!!

Thank you:)

OH, dear. I wish I could help. Just yesterday I found a pacifier on the counter and thought "where did this come from, I thought the pacifiers were gone? If Little sees it it's all over, I'll just throw it away" Do you know, last night she asked for her purple nuk!!! I said "what Nuk? You don't have a Nuk!" She said "the purple one w/ cats on it" Fortunately dad jumped in. I told him later that I'd just thrown that very pacifier away that morning. It's almost like she KNEW! I have soothed myself w/ the she's not going to college w/ it theory. BUT it breaks my heart not to give it to her anyway. We've been trying to break her of it for a year. But it seems as though we are done.

The storybook skirts are delicious. Add it to my seemingly never ending list of things to do!

I have to work on some non-disney related things for the next few weeks. I hope to get them finished and get back to preparing for our trip.

Now I'm going to see If I can't get my ticker to fit in my siggy.

...t.

Thank you all for the prayers!

I just talked to my Dad. The surgery went well. My Aunt is awake and trying to talk. She has a long way to go, but things look better today than yesterday.

My sister is driving from Texas to Michigan (right now-and has already had 1 blowout:scared1: on the road) to be with her.

We’re thinking of heading to OC, MD this August. It’s been a few years since we have been to the beach. We love staying on the boardwalk. So much to do!

Oh yeah, OC MD is fun - tons of stuff, yet close to Asseteague for relaxation :beach: . My IL's are crafters and they go down every year in September to do SunFest. Great time to go since it's usually still warm and the crowds are gone by then.

Love the dress!! Which pattern did she use?

Thanks! MIL is here right now reading over my shoulder and checking out all the creations on this board - again great stuff everyone! MIL is technologically inept and never gets to see any feedback on her dresses, so thanks for being so nice. :goodvibes

As for the pattern, she doesn't know. It was a costume pattern for an Alice in Wonderland dress she thinks probably Simplicity of McCalls. Hope that helps somewhat.

I'm going to try to see if I can get my kids to model some of their other new outfits - they got a ton more last night  .

I feel like I haven't been able to really post in a long time. I have loads of things I've been sewing & I finially have some pics to share.

This Cinderella dress was a birthday present for dd4's best friend:
2008_05150047.jpg

They both loved it & I think I'm probably going to have to make dd one now.

I used my Tink valance from the Wal-Mart clearance bin to make the girls matching sundresses:
2008_05190036.jpg

2008_05190037.jpg

I also made dd2 a couple of seersucker sundresses, I only have pics of one of them though. :headache:
2008_05200031.jpg

And I finished the Daisy Kingdon halter dress. I love the dress, but the pattern made me a bit crazy at times.
2008_05200033.jpg

2008_05200001.jpg

I've finished dd2's version of the Daisy Kingdom dress, but she hasn't tried it one yet. I made her and her BAB a Donald sailor dress for her birthday, but I don't have any pics of them either. I'm also working on a top for me & then I need to get busy on dd4's sailor dress.

Thank you all for the advice on "the binki issue" :) Katie really needs to be done with it. Like I said before, I think it was mostly me. I am very codependent on her being a baby. I hope it went well! I love the binky fairy idea. DD10 was my biggest binky child. I got her off it, but then baby brother came along when she was 21 months old and she kept taking his. Finally they were probably 2 and 3 and I took them and their binkys to Toys 'R' Us. We paused at the trash can (covered with a hinged flap) outside the front door, and I said if you throw your binkies in the garbage can right now, I will take you in and buy whatever you want in the toy store, but you see this garbage can, we can not ever get them back out again! They both went for it right away and we were DONE with binkies. Luke never liked them. Lily had a few, but was not that into them so I never even had to take them away, she just didn't want them. SO about 2 weeks ago, Sugarbees was over with baby Saylor and Lily noticed her bink, but no big deal. A day or 2 later, DS8 was cleaning out the kitchen drawer that holds the sippy cup lids and found 4 or 5 binks :scared1: which he then showed to Lily, who has now been a binky freak for the last 2 weeks! She is my last and my baby and I'm having a hard time taking them away from her, but she talks really well and when she has one in her mouth I can't understand her, so I think that is what will force me to throw them all away. I hate to though, because (when she was a baby) I bought a set of 3 with her name engraved on them. I am so sentimental!
