That's perfect for the beach! It's adorable, so is your dd...she has such beautiful eyes!

The customs are so cute, and glad that you guys had fun on your trip!

I am SO hiding in my office right now. There is a difficult parent demanding that a consequence for her son be lifted b/c "he couldn't help it..." (not only could he HELP it, he premeditated it AND laughed about it afterwards!) I won't lift it and I'm not going to argue about it either so I'm letting the principal argue about it...but if she sees me in the hall it will NOT be good!

:rolleyes1

*ahem*

Some parents!! My mom was a school counsellor at my high school, and there are some pretty interesting parents out there!

I need to change my ticker on the bottom, my induction is scheduled for 7/2/2008 now!   So now my ticker is a week later than it should be, I have seven days less than it says! Yeah!

I tried to get my doctor to schedule it on 7/1 so I could get out on 7/3 instead of 7/4 but she said that Tuesday's are her surgery days and Wednesdays are her induction days. Here is to hoping that at least one of the old wives tales about how to start labor are actually true!!!! I am usually pretty good and dilated (with DD 4 I was dilated to a 4 and 100% effaced and with DD 2 I was dilated to a 5, and had been since 36 weeks and 100% effaced - could someone please explain to me why I just don't go into labor then?????) when I go in for my inductions so hopefully it won't take much. I swear sometimes I post just so I can see how far along I am.

Oh how exciting...just a little over a month!!

Another two from my MIL.

I showed her this thread and your lovely work - she's been very inspired!

Love the dress!! Which pattern did she use?

Ok, so how soon is too soon to start a countdown?
If you could see the stupid ticker in my signature you would know that I have 4 months, 3 weeks and 5 days left. I think it's too soon. But I am all excited w/ planning and I want to spread the joy.
...t.

I don't think it is too soon!

Ok, I have been reading some of this thread and you ladies are AMAZING! I am not much of a seamstress, but my DD wants to have a minnie mouse dress for our trip in August. I can sew a bit, and would like to make this, mostly so it can be cool and light, and of a nicer fabric than I have seen at the disney store, plus she LOVES a full and flouncy skirt, which iirc is easy to make (but seems to be hard to find in stores!) I looked on ebay cause I thought I might find some handmade creations there, but didn't. Is there special 'disney' patterns, or do most of you just go with ordinary patterns? I am thinking of doing a sleevless dress anyway, just in the minnie fabric (polka dots) and then maybe make a matching bow for her hair. I figure that can't be too hard to mess up! Is it easy to make dresses with those kind of gathered/smocked elasticy looking tops that just tie at the shoulders ?, those are my favourite look, and would be so cool for August. Or would I be better to stick with a kind of plainer top? TIA for any advice for a VERY novice sewer:scared: ....

Welcome!! I started with patterns from youcanmakethis.com. They are really easy to follow, especially CarlaC's pattern.

ok I have finally broke the sewing machine back out lol. Tell me what I did wrong here? I finally found the fabric at Walmart last night and I put this together. I assumed (I know not a good idea) that I just had to sew the sides together close enough to fit her? I don't like the way it hangs though ... is there a better way to do with this kind of fabric? I still have to add straps on it. I honestly had not planned to until I remembered she was 4 and needs straps.

The view of the funky way it hangs. Which in hind sight could just be due to the way my child stands too. ;)

Love that fabric....I will have to check my Walmart to see if they have them. I think it looks great!

This is fantastic advice! I wanted to add, that when you are taking measurements, it helps if you wear a short necklace, so you know where the base of your neck is, and tie a string around your waist, so you know you are measuring in the right spot. I do this when I measure the girls too. I read it in a book (I think it was the Singer sewing book, but I'm not sure, I got it from the library)

That's what my mom used to do - tie a string around my waist!! My mom sewed all kind of dresses for me when I was little....one that I never forget was a Looney Tunes dress that looks like one of CarlaC's simply sweet dresses.

My sister just called me. My Aunt is in the ER, she had a heart attack. I think I am in shock. Please pray that she is ok. She has MAJOR anxiety issues and having all those people "fussing" with her is going to make her nuts.

Sending prayers for your aunt....keep us updated.

So I've just had the best day. Here's pictures of what I've done.

I've turned my cellar office into a sewing room. Of course the sewing machine is still on the kitchen table, but at least all of the fabric and stuff are together in one room. Hopefully this means I can get somethings done faster.

My dd8 stands like that too. She sticks out her tummy and pokes out her booty. My mom delicately calls it "sway-back." I guess. :confused3

BTW, I like it like it is. I am really proud of you for adopting her. That's really super.

AND FINALLY!!! Can we possibly try to set up some kind of Disboutiquer's All Girls Get Together?princess: Putting it together would be a chore since clearly not everyone is going to be able to make it. But other threads do it so why can't we?? So who's willing to use their type A organizational skills and their Dis knowhow to help orchestrate a Mama's Only weekend???:flower3: I'd be willing to act as your personal assistant!:rolleyes1

That would be so fun!

I will keep her in my prayers.

My sister called again. They are moving my Aunt to a bigger hospital and plan to do surgery tonight. It is hard being so far away.

OH, Cindee!! I will be thinking of all of youpixiedust:

I think I'll hold onto my good news for a bit longer now.

Good night ladies, see you in the morning!

Okay so I realize I haven't actually MADE anything yet...but I am a weensy bit FRUSTRATED with patterns for adults.

I'm not sure if clothing sizes translate to pattern sizes...for example is a size 8 dress from the store going to be the same as a size 8 pattern? Or are pattern sizes smaller?

the reason I ask is b/c I am on the scrawny side. I'm not super short...just marginally short...5' 4 and a HALF...very nearly 5'5! But I'm just bony. I wear between a 0 and 2, depending on the brand. (I have ulcers...which is why I'm scrawny. It's not pretty. It's icky.) So I thought if I could learn to sew I could just MAKE stuff in my size...but I can't FIND stuff in my size even in patterns or Juniors patterns!

Seriously y'all...I have to shop at Gap Kids to find dresses that fit me. Children's patterns don't usually go past size 8...I'm a children's 12 usually. A children's 16 is way too big. I am in clothing no man's land!

does everyone feel sorry for me now?:sad1:

really I'm just wondering if I'm missing smaller patterns or if I'm out of luck!

I am SO hiding in my office right now. There is a difficult parent demanding that a consequence for her son be lifted b/c "he couldn't help it..." (not only could he HELP it, he premeditated it AND laughed about it afterwards!) :rolleyes1

*ahem*

Got to love parents that constantly defend their child! I had an eighth grader (with no learning or behavior disability except for stupid parents!!!) who teachers could not grade projects (not the everynight homework) on the neatness or quality of the work because he couldn't cut correctly. How many 14 year olds do you know that can't use scissors? Of course, the parents were not allowed to talk to the teachers either because they were so abusive to us too! We had to have a principal, vice principal, counselor and his whole team of teachers together in order to talk to them, they were fantastic! Wonder why the kid is screwed up?

I know you are excited to have (an even sooner) end in sight! You can leave 24hrs after the baby is born if there are no complications. I had to stay 24hrs after the epidural was removed, so I had them remove it ASAP (it was a c-section and they made me keep it 16ish hrs). I left less than 48 hrs after my section. This is only if you WANT to go home!! I actually stayed an extra day with the first one. I wanted all the extra help I could get!

Yeah, I am a wimp and want all of the help I can get! I know that I will be coming home to certain chaos (this will be DH's first time to spend the night alone with our girls EVER!) and will cherish every minute of having some help!

I am looking for the blue kids around the world fabric. Usually seen on Epcot outfits, where can I purchase it, and what is it called so that I can check :wizard: for it. Thanks everyone !!!!!

I got it at Joann's and there is a coordinating fabric to match too!

Thank you it will be unfortunately covered until Dec. Or so they are telling me. After rights have been terminated on bio Dad and we have been through the waiting period for the family to step forward I may be a bit more free lol.

ok side by the electronics dept where the "disney fabric" normally is. then look to your left where the fleece is go to the end of there and look down if she put it back in the same spot it should be there. To funny you were there last night! We were there about 6. :rotfl:

OK, I found it! Thanks for the help! FUNNY - I was there about 6:00 last night too! We probably just missed each other.

My sister just called me. My Aunt is in the ER, she had a heart attack. I think I am in shock. Please pray that she is ok. She has MAJOR anxiety issues and having all those people "fussing" with her is going to make her nuts.

Want you to know I'm praying, Cindee! Hope all goes well.

Thank you all for the nice welcome back. Also thanks for the compliments on Katie's customs. I had a huge reply (with quotes) typed out twice and my computer froze up and I lost it. So I am sorry. I do appreciate all of the kind words.

Prayers and :grouphug: to you!

Campellscott I feel your pain. I teach high school, and i had a parent spend a half hour trying to convince me that i did not hear her child say (expletive deleted) b/c HER child doesn't use that kind of language, especially not to adults. I MUST have misunderstood.:confused3

Update-

They are doing a quadrupile bypass on my Aunt tonight. I am told they have a wonderful surgeon.

Miss Cammie!

Thought that might get your attention! ;)

Here's a link to the Simplicity pattern website size charts.

http://http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?page=section/fittips/howmeas.htm

Check out the Junior and the Girls size ranges.

Children's clothing usually begin around size 3 or 4 and go up to size 7 or 8.

Then they graduate into "Girls" or "Boys" sizing beginning with size 7 or 8 to size 14 or 16.

Similar to the infants to toddlers to childrens size progressions, each takes into consideration physical changes, which is why some of the sizes overlap a bit.

Just tested the link, and it isn't working for me. Here is the actual URL:

http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?page=section/fittips/howmeas.htm

Thanks for the link!!!!:goodvibes :goodvibes

miss cammie you HAVE to measure your self but most important measure the pattern! You will frustrate yourself beyond believe if you don't. Don't be afraid to use some clear tape to fold up patterns and secure with tape to make it where the fit is supposed to be (btw waist measurement is your natural waist, when you bend your side creases thats your waist line measurement) Have your dh measure for you. Much simpler.

Good luck with hiding out. I don't envy your job in the least LOL

Thanks for the tips!!! I had never even thought of that stuff. I'm so not mechanical which is leading me to believe that this little sewing adventure of mine is going to end in tragedy...:lmao:

My DD10 wears a size 12. I have found a few patterns. What do you want to make? A skirt? A dress? If you want to start out with something really simple, I would suggest making a pair of shorts for Teddy (pj shorts even if that takes some pressure off :rotfl: ) with Carla's easy fit pants pattern. I'm not sure what size Sally wears, but I think the pattern goes up to an 8 and I just enlarged that a tad for Jayden. I can't wait for you to start sewing!   Honestly, I improve and learn something new EVERY time I make something!!

Yep, I think Carla's easy fit pants are going to be my first attempt! It seems like a useful pattern all around...I'll give it a go!!

Miss Cammie, take your bust, waist and hip measurements and compare them to those for the pattern. I haven't purchased a commercial pattern in a coon's age, so I'm not sure if the measurements for each size are printed on the envelope or if you'll need to check the size chart for the specific company on the internet or in a pattern company. Just like different brands of clothing, different pattern companies may have different measurements for the same size.

Saying you need a "scrawny" size is the same as my BFF saying she needs a "big" size! *LOL*

You might want to see if there are any junior patterns available. They used to run from size 1 or size 3 to size 13 or size 15. They are designed for a different figure type than misses clothing and might work better for you. Again, compare your measurements to those for the specific pattern company.

One other measurement you'll need before you're ready to start sewing is your back neck length. Strange one, huh? It's from the bone at the base of your neck to your natural waistline. That will help fit the length of the bodice so the hips are in the right place and not too high or low. You won't need it to select the pattern, but before you begin cutting... :)

Hope your office is comfy and you can hide out as long as necessary. I've been working with my office door shut all week, which I detest. Deadlines. Yuck!

I wrote all that down!!! Thank you!!!:goodvibes

My office chair IS comfy...I had to beg, borrow and eventually steal my office chair! I LOVE IT!!! makes for good Dis-ing!!!

I don't have any helpful advice for you, but I can feel your pain on not finding clothes that fit. I do not have the same issue as you do, AT ALL. But, I can never find shirts or dresses that fit me nicely. Just wanted to give you a

you are too sweet for words!! Hugs are always welcome and appreciated!!!:lovestruc

MissCammie, I am going to look for one of those smileys for us!!!

Oh, I'm so excited that we might actually get to see a CampbellScott creation soon!!!!

:lmao: we shall see!!!

I'm looking forward to the happy cry smiley!!! That will be one useful emoticon!!!:3dglasses

My sister just called me. My Aunt is in the ER, she had a heart attack. I think I am in shock. Please pray that she is ok. She has MAJOR anxiety issues and having all those people "fussing" with her is going to make her nuts.

in my prayers!!! I hope she will be feeling better real soon!!

Some parents!! My mom was a school counsellor at my high school, and there are some pretty interesting parents out there!

you are not kidding!!! I'm often aghast at some of the behavior I see from parents. It's pretty nuts. And sad. And infuriating!

Has this kid been evaluated for special services? Not being able to cut sounds like an OT issue to me...does he have a 504 plan? Is that why his homework and such isn't graded? I will not put up with verbally abusive parents anymore than I would put up with a verbally abusive child! I don't care what their child's "issue" is. That is not how we treat others! Sounds like administration needs to put their foot down and take some control back in terms of appropriate communication and protocol!

and the teachers need to perfect their wicked eyebrow arches...a good arch goes a LONG way!!!:cool2: :goodvibes

*

I hate to sew for myself. When I make something to my measurements, it's waaaayyy toooo big. I've tried to pit fit the pattern, but it's not easy on yourself. I just gave up. Of course, I don't have much luck shopping either. I can spend days in the fitting room. I do better when I just buy it and take it home.

ok I have finally broke the sewing machine back out lol. Tell me what I did wrong here? I finally found the fabric at Walmart last night and I put this together. The view of the funky way it hangs. Which in hind sight could just be due to the way my child stands too. ;)

It seems okay, picture wise that is. the bottom would be fuller. The back is a bit lower then the front, causing the part at the butt to bubble. That is really what looks like is happening. Pull the back up a bit to see if that makes a difference. You could add straps if you like, or to tie at the shoulders (no accidental slippage).

So I've just had the best day. Here's pictures of what I've done.

Congrats on the "new" sewing room. I wish I had one. I sew in the dining room. Not that we dine there. But there are those occassions. In fact, I have my computer in there to.

Your dress looks wonderful. I just love those binky shots. I've a ton of Kirsta in Disney with her binky!! Even Mickey couldn't get it from her. :rotfl:
