Disboutiquers Part 4ish Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes psst..we sew

We went the week of sept 13 and we thought it was crowded. Not summer crowded, the waits for rides were still around 15 min or less except for soarin. But the park itself was crowded! And the restaurants. Everyone was eating!

The year before the park was empty.

I have plenty of ADR's so hopefully we will be okay! Maybe i will sneak a couple of extras in there just in case.

I have noticed a huge difference in the crowded-ness of restarants since they started offering the meal plan- I think people feel that because they got the meal plan they HAVE to go to the daily TS that they might have skipped before, or use that last CS credit, etc. This time I am going to double book my dining so if we need to change our plans (which happened alot on our last trip) we arent stuck with cereal or crummy delivery pizza from POR.

I am considering doing this. I think it is okay if you just book under a different phone number. They don't check that!

We went Sept 19-23 last year, it was a last minute decison so no free dining for us. It was HOT and HUMID! We thought the parks were fairly busy but we spent most of our time in MK due to having a 27 month old with us. But the restaurants were INSANE! I had a hard time getting any character meals but was able to finally get Crystal Palace for late lunch a week before we left. Both table service and counter service places were swamped with people all day.

Well I 'm glad you got to go. I am worried about the crowds, because we are used to HJanuary crowds, but I think we are going to concentrat on more of the subtle experiences than the rides this trip. Hope it's not too awful!

YEAH...I am so excited I just bought CarlaC's Easy Fit Pants pattern!!!! I can't wait to try it out. I have to take DD to dance and I plan on reading the pattern while I wait, then it is time to hit the fabric stores!!! :cool1:

(Hey...I just had to share that with all of you)!!!!

Need some advice. I want to buy 1 or 2 patterns from youcanmakethis and don't know which ones to get. I am thinking of the carlaC peasant dress and CarlaC simply sweet dress. What do you think?

I like the dainty designs peasant dress, but I need one with lots of support....still just a newbie!

Like many others from Florida, Michigan, and the UK, we spent last week in WDW:

First day, checking in at AKL. The greeter at the line asked DD if grandma made the top! :confused3 She said no, her mom was a famous sewer! :goodvibes And between that outfit and the 'famous' talking Dolly (12" stuffed doll that she sleeps with) having intriguing conversations with the CM at the check-in desk, we were upgraded from the Toyota-beast view (standard) to the Wildebeast view (Sunset Savannah). With Bunkbeds! (Thought she was going to kill herself getting down from the upper bunk to run to the balcony to see Giraffes or the ever-famous Mohawk bird.) Pics are from MK later that day. Wendy loved the top, found Nana on the back, and loved that DD brought her a storybook - Peter and Wendy's story - to sign. Butterick peasant top, HeatherSue's inspriration, store-bought skirt

th_PeterPanfrontatWDW.jpg

th_PeterPantopwithatWDW.jpg

Next day was AK. I wanted the red outfit, she wanted the pink. :flower3: What the heck, it's vacation! Carla C's newest top pattern, lengthened by about 4"!, Walmart-pillowcase applique, patchwork twirl skirt from last year. I love this picture!

th_pinktwirlauroratopatWDW.jpg

Day 3, MK for a full day. Guess who got picked to be Cogsworth at Belle's Storytime? :) And someone needs to point me to where I can buy a red baseball cap for cheap! I kept thinking all day was that she didn't match...not being happy she was wearing a cap to protect her from the sun...it really bugged me! Mickey sequined applique pulled off a too-small Kmart tank and re-sewn, patchwork twirl skirt.

th_Mickeytwirlatwdw.jpg

Then off to 1900 Park Faire for tea with Alice! (believe me, you're happy you can't see *this* face! :scared: ) McCalls or Simplicity pattern from a few years ago. I hate the collar!

th_AlicedressatWDW.jpg

Day 4, back to MK for the am, DHS for PM. McCall's top, purchased bermudas. So hot her feet got a light sunburn!

th_MinniedottopatWDW.jpg

Day 5 - Gymboree (I know, the shame!) at Epcot I had a 101 Dalmations outfit, but it was so hot the day before and I was worried she'd be too hot in the double-layered skirt. I was also worried about a long skirt and a too-small stroller (promised for the Epcot portion of the trip.) She was supposed to wear it the day we went to DHS, but we mixed it up day 4 when MK got unbearable. She wore it to play in the sandbox yesterday, though! Carla C's top, 4" longer, with a double-layer skirt. I've since taken the top layer and scalloped it up with black grossgrain bows, but don't have a pic.

th_Dalmationoutfitwearing.jpg

And all of this (with the exception of the sequined Mickey top) belong to the every-day wearable collection around our house. You've not had fun as a mom until you've tried to keep a calf-length twirl skirt out of a bike chain!

Deb

Love the customs--and combining them with customized purchased items. :thumbsup2 Nice way to get the results with limited time for sewing. :)

Last night I was trying to sew a Tinkerbell dress and I changed the stitch to one of the decorative stitches and the wheel that you turn to change the stitch type broke and now the wheel just turns freely. :headache: I told DH what happened and he said, "Well maybe you should just get another one. I don't think the one you have is made for all of the sewing you have been doing." So today I get to go look for a new sewing machine. I am so happy. I think he is ok with me getting a new machine, because the one I have has started squeaking real bad. I have oiled every part that I have been able to get to and it just won't stop.

Happy hunting! Hope you'll share your find with us! :)

All this talk of Free dining has me jealous! On one hand, I so want to go back this fall but on the other hand, I don't want to deal with the Free Dining crowds. Maybe I can convince DD to go early December - less crowds, less heat.:upsidedow

Hope you can convince your DD to visit WDW in early December. It's gorgeous! My favourite time of year to visit. :thumbsup2

The CarlaC peasant dress is very easy. Some others that have tried both said that the Dainty Designs pattern is harder to understand. I love the versatility of the peasant dress. I have used it so many times since I got it. I also love the Simply Sweet dress pattern. I have used it alot too and the pants pattern by CarlaC is really good too.

so far I have purchased a few, I have not actually made them up yet, but from reading I can tell

Easy fit pants- I had to read this one 2-3 times (it was late) and then I got to the pattern themselves and POOF the light went on- I can already tell this is the easiest pants pattern!
Portrait peasant dress-Im still printing this one, and have read it thru but again, very very clear directions with options to personalize

Dainty Designs peasant dress- wasted my money. Maybe its just me, Im what Id call an "advanced beginner" and this just isnt clicking for me. But the dress on the front is adorable!!!! Maybe its just more pattern than a true beginner can handle.

Which cruiseline are you thinking of going with? I totally agree- WDW cruises are really expensive compared to the others. DH and I went on a WDW land/sea a couple of years ago for our 25th anniversary. We enjoyed it, but it was just ok. We couldn't get off at 2 of the ports because of the weather and it was kinda difficult being stuck on the boat for that many days. Plus, we didn't go with any kids- it was just us, and as you know the Disney Cruiseline is very kid oriented, so I found myself kinda frustrated. Anyway... it kinda turned me off to cruising, but I'm wondering if we did another cruiseline if that would make a difference?? Have you used other lines before?

We just booked TODAY!!! with Carnival. It's a 5 night out of Tampa. We can't wait. It's at the end of the summer, so I actually have a chance to get tan before I go. I've only sailed Disney, but I purchased a Carnival cruise several times as gifts for people and they've loved it! :)

Ihave a question! does anyone on here take requests? I'mlooking for someone to make a Gizelle dress (the blue one she makes out of curtains) I want it for Halloween and since im deathly afraid of sewing machines ( baddd experience afew years ago) I couldnt possibly do it myself. if anyone could PM me if they were interested i would be very very appreciative!:)

Here are some of the outfits I was talking about having to take pics of and some of the dolly pics as requested. I didn't mean to sound like I was waiting because I wanted the pics to be perfect, it's just that I don't have my camera settings right for anything but natural light and I hate fiddling with the flash and auto settings so I just wait for sunlight because I'm lazy, not cuz I'm a photo snob :snooty:

First up is Susie doll and only about 1/4 of her mama made wardrobe and don't even get me started on the size of her wardrobe that I didn't make. The dollies in this house have some seriously cool wardrobes

OK so Susie doll has way more than this but this is all I could take a few pics of super quick. There are a few more pics of this and the other items I'm posting on my Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lpphotography/

This is my first attempt at shirring and it was pretty good. Not perfect, but really fun and easy
2406013274_0bc001496c.jpg

Doesn't she have Giselle hands in this pic? Maybe it's just me, but everytime I look at her in this one I can hear her saying "when you meet the someone..."
2406013102_54e61ba48b.jpg

She loves to lay on her tummy for pics, she thought it was super funny that Susie doll couldn't do this pose with her. I made her hairbow too!

Next up is the project runway dress which I made into a bubble dress and the easy fit pants from YCMT which I added serged ruffles to. Still need more work on my serger technique. Got one recently and am still learning how to use the dang thing. Sorry no modeling pics, it's fresh outta the was as she made a mess with mac n cheese the first time she wore it out.

Last but not least, a taggie blankie for my cousin's little girl. The text below the name reads "When a baby girl laughs, a fairy is born"

And just for a quick story, the kiddos were splashing in the tub washing off paint this morning. I stepped out to pick out their outfits and was thinking how nice it was that they were playing together well. All of a sudden, I hear Gabi go "oh no, mommy there's poop in here" Oh yes, Cam pooped in the tub and made a HUGE mess. Had to get the kids cleaned up, scrub the toys and tub with bleach, yuck yuck yuck!!!

Ugh...Totally off topic. but bad news.
My DH and I have been planning to sell the house, so we can move to a different home with a level yard, and maybe some better closet space. The home we have is great, but we also have been hit with various things that have forced us to do more work than we thought on it. And selling it would wipe out our debt and give us money for a deposit on a new home- and thats assuming we sell it for "cheap" if we get a decent price, it would be great. I figured we would move just a town away- the next few towns over dip pretty far south and would really help my Dh with his 1hr 15m commute. Making it 45min- which would make him happy. And it would still be close to the church we love. I have struggled for years in this area to find friends. We used to live deep in Fairfield County, when we moved the the northern part of the county and I found this church, life has just started to become great. I have even had a few "teas" and had girls over to the house with their kids for the morning- and im finally making progress on making friends. Well a week ago DH comes home and says his company is going to be looking to relocate- about 45m up the shoreline to the Milford-Bridgeport area. So thats fine, we can still look at the towns Im interested in.
Last night DH comes home and says "bad news" his boss is seriously considering an office in Stamford- 45minutes FURTHER from our house. Dh would need to live at least 45 min away from where we are- or more. This would make it very difficult to keep up any relationships, I just dont get it. Seems everytime I barely start to make friends I have to move.
Yet I feel miserable for DH- until we sell the house, he will have a 1hr 45m commute. I know, I used to drive it when I was in the corporate world. Sometimes with bad traffic it took me more than 2hrs to get home at night.

Im trying to convince myself there are pros to this. I looked on realtor.com and there appear to be some nice looking homes below our budget. with access to water. Im just so tired of being lonely. And here I am thinking of having another baby and Ill end up in the same situation I was with the first pregnancy- no one around to help. Not that I have a huge support system here- but I suspect the girls Im getting to know now might offer to pop in with a meal or watch DD so I can nap.

Okay-deep breath-life goes on-it'll be okay.

You won't go wrong with any of CarlaC's pattern. I have all of her patterns, except the Scallopini skirt and the latest ruffled pants. Her instructions are very easy to follow. Recently, I bought the pinafore dress pattern, and I was really disappointed with them!

Those are tooo cute, and I just love your pictures!!!!

I am so sorry you have to go through this. I hope the transition and move will all work out in the end.

For a quick minute there- I thought we had a doll doing "The Megan" And then.... my hopes were dashed. Alas.... It was just a doll's leg in the pic. :sad1:

And just for a quick story, the kiddos were splashing in the tub washing off paint this morning. I stepped out to pick out their outfits and was thinking how nice it was that they were playing together well. Just keep repeating the following to yourself-

Better the tub then the wall, Better the tub then the wall......

It'll make you feel better about the situation! :rotfl:

Awww he sure was a little cutie!!! :goodvibes

Did you just say your mom was throwing a "dog party" for the girls??? How cool is that!!! Your mom sounds like one heck of a grandma!!! I definitely want to see pics of this party!!!

Thanks! I thought he was gorgeous too!

Yep, our Mom threw the girls a dog party! I took a few pictures, but my battery went dead, so I don't have too many. It was a lot of fun!

And, yep she is a WONDERFUL Grandma! :lovestruc

Jay just called and it seems that Teddy told the principal that his mommy said he doesn't have to sorry! Of course she did not say that, but that is what he thought. He also told the principal he can "do whatever he wants"...

which leads to the dilemma...his party at Build a bear is this weekend and if I was a social worker dealing with this situation I'd say he loses the party. (it's his THIRD party so far as it is...) He sassed back to an adult AND it was over something very naughty that he did. But the part of me who loves and adores Teddy knows that this is not entirely his fault. He has not been given the proper boundaries in the situation.

Jay is furious. Mostly not at Teddy.

*ahem*

And the principal started the meeting sort of joking...but when Teddy wasn't properly contrite he got mad. Hello...YOU are the adult, you set the tone!

rar.

so now I don't know what is going to happen.

why can't kids just behave all the time?!:confused3

Goodness, what does that mother think she is doing for him???? :confused3 I would have the party anyway if it was me, it really wouldn't be fair to his friends to cancel it. I would however punish him some other way. I feel for you, I can't imagine how frustrating this must be. Have you told him how worried you are about him? I know he adores you, would a real heart to heart help?

Here are our new doll clothes. Hope you like them!

Thanks!
I love these!!! Especially this pink one!!

That was me! Hi:wave2: thanks for the advice...:thumbsup2 But I have to know what is the kitchen sink?:confused3

I had to go find our picture from last year!
DSCF0598%20copy.jpg

We are all planning on going this year too, and we've made custom outfits for the girls!! I'm making the girls ice cream cone fabric skirts and Heather appliqued ice cream cones onto shirts for them! We LOVED it last year!
Here is what I made today! It is a stroller caddy :) All freehand, no pattern :)
th_strollercaddy.jpg

It looks great Cindee!! I love that fabric too!
1.)Oh, I remembered what #3 was from last night: I have never seen Titanic! Isn't that sad? I used to work at a movie theater when I was in college and saw every movie (bad and good) that came out for five years. I really don't like to watch any movies much any more, especially if they are long. I am kind of a movie snob that way.

2.)Aww, poor Teresa! Yes, it is hard when they go off to kindergarten, especially the baby, but it's fun too. And of course Corey is the cutest baby I have ever seen. Too bad he likes old princesses now (sorry, couldn't resist!).
1.) You've NEVER seen Titanic! :faint:
2.):rotfl:
Here they are! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL OF THE ENCOURAGEMENT. You were right - this pattern is easy. The sleeves - no problems! Can you tell I'm excited?

Heidi's dress has the lace on the bottom. I decided to put it in front as low as I could. I think it turned out fine. She's doing a ballet position with her hands. :confused3

th_DSC07982.jpg

I might add a green sash around Aleah's dress. There's just not a lot of room between the arm holes and the waistline. I'm still debating. She has a goofy expression (again).
th_DSC07983.jpg

Just because it's sweet.
th_DSC07984.jpg

I used a size 5 for both girls. I think the waist it a bit high. Did anyone else have this problem?

Chantell

They turned out great Chantell!!!! Your girls are so cute together!!!

I'm so excited...just had to share. tomorrow I'm booking our land and sea...
our sea portion will sadly not be with disney this time...too expensive. Their prices are almost 4 times what I'm paying.
So if we can get the dates, we will be sailing October 6-11 and in Disney from October 11-17.
I can't wait!!!:rotfl: I think my debit card might cry tomorrow!:scared1:

WOO HOO for YOU!!! How exciting!
Like many others from Florida, Michigan, and the UK, we spent last week in WDW:
th_PeterPanfrontatWDW.jpg

th_PeterPantopwithatWDW.jpg

I love them all, but I have to say that this one is my favorite! ;)

Oh, they are all fantastic! I love the Peter Pan top! That is so original! Fantastic job! Where did you get the pattern for the silhouettes? My problem with seeing all of the fantastic jobs everyone is doing is that I want them all! I have no problem with changing clothes a couple of times a day (especially when you consider an outfit for the day and one for dinner) but I'm practically to the point where I want an outfit for almost every ride! One for Pirates of the Caribbean, now Peter Pan, It's a Small World, Winnie The Pooh, etc.! We would do nothing but change our clothes! Hmm, I guess this means we just have to go more often! Now if the old pocket book could afford it!

Sorry if this was answered, I'm not to the end of th thread yet! Heathersue designed the Peter Pan silhouette top, and posted the pictures she used to applique, for the people that wanted to Case it. I think I've uploaded them to the Photobucket account, but I'm not sure! They would be in fabrics and ideas/images. Deb did a fantastic job caseing it! I love seeing it in the park!

Sorry! I was trying to be good and follow the directions on the first page, so I resized them. Is this better? I won't post the blue one... it's really is extremely fuzzy. You just have to promise not to notice how much some of my seams are off. :rotfl: .

I need to change that so people know that we like nice sized pictures in the origianal post!

Yeah, a new machine!!!!!!! So cool!

Our doxie was named Beauregard!!! How funny. We had to give him away because he was very very mean and attacked us (and Jackson was only 10 months at the time). How funny that we have the same name for our black and tan doxies! We had another doxie too- Annabelle. She was absolutely miserable without Beau. She honestly had an anxiety disorder and it was just too much for her to be alone. Now she is with Beau (and my x-in-laws). I still get to visit them though.

Our BJ comes from a long line of Beauregards...a dignified breed are Dachshunds!! Of course Beau-Jack sounds like a total hick name!:rotfl2:

I'm sorry to hear you doxie had such bad manners!! That is the trouble with dachshunds. If they are not taught from the GET GO who is boss, they can get a little persnickity. That's too bad. They are such wonderful loyal dogs. My mom's dog Heidi didn't like my little sisters boyfriend and she used to fly at him with her teeth bared, snarling like a attack dog. She got him in the corner once, barking and nipping at his jeans...he was yelping and hopping around. I'd have helped him sooner but I was laughing so hard I couldn't stand up straight!

Cute name! When we picked ours up from the breeder, she said her kids were calling him Scrappy because that seemed to suit him but of course we could change it. Jacob liked Scrappy so it stayed!

Hope things get better with your little fibber. Good thing he's cute, right? That's what I tell Megan all the time.

What did you buy? Yesterday I went to Steinmart and bought some overpriced jeans.

I think Scrappy is a darling name!! Doxies are rather scrappy!! I love them though. I'll always have at least one doxie in my house!! They do love a pack though!!!

Teddy IS lucky that he's cute! I told him once when he was little and he'd tried to hit me when I put him time out that he was LUCKY that MissCammie didn't believe in spanking b/c he would have gotten his rump blistered if I had! He DID go to bed for the night...it was about 6:00pm. He never tried to hit me again. Stinker.

My Discover card found a darling little Coach bag it had been wanting. Discover card has such LOVELY taste in bags!!!:flower3:

I love that name!
Our Sophie is Englelong Simpley Sophie Her Mom was Englelong Simpley Smashing MLD Her Daddy was CH Englelong Smudge M W

So we kept the Kennel name Englelong and the Simpley

If you are looking for a Mini Dachshund Englelong is a great Kennel. Her breeder was so sweet. We picked her up at a Dachshund Club Dog show and everyone there was very excited for us. They would say "Oh your getting one of Betty's dogs? You will love her!"

YAY! Another "owned by a doxie" person!!! They are such lovable little poots. My husband made a comment about BJ needing to listen better. I laughed myself silly and told him that we were lucky that BJ decided he'd go potty outside. It certainly wasn't up to us! He listens when he feels like it. He's a doxie. We live in HIS house. He ALLOWS us sit on the couch...as long as he gets to be in the middle...and as long as Jay doesn't try to hold my hand or anything!:rotfl2:

My DD9 almost 10 just got her report card yesterday....we were all remarking how amazing it was that she had perfect attendance and A's. :thumbsup2 Well today is her slumber party that she has been dreaming about and looking forward to all year. Don't you know the poor child wakes up barely breathing, coughing, feverish and generally over-all sick!   So I had to call all of the moms this morning at 7:30am to postpone the party. She was crying and everything...terrible. However I cheered her up  with a breathing treatment, ginger ale, water-ice and the knowledge that in two weeks (when we rescheduled the party) that it will be loverly weather and we will be able to go horseback riding and play outside too! So I am home with her today, able to Dis and sew and all! Yeah for me

Poor girl!!! That ALWAYS happened to me when I was little. Every time I had something fun planned!! I remember waking up on the morning that I was to go to a "movie/sleepver" party. I KNEW I was sick. But I was determined not to tell my mom. So I got dressed and ready for school. I tried to get out the door before my mom could kiss me good bye...unfortunately the 103 degree fever I was running caused me to pass out in hallway!:lmao: I was SO sad. I just cried and cried. My mom took me to see the movie the next week though!! Hope your daughter feels oodles better soon!!!

Aww, Miss Cammie!! Sounds like you've had a tough few days!! Poor Teddy, it must be so confusing for him! "someone" needs to get their act together, and realize what is funny, and what is NOT! How frustrating that has to be for you guys!

And, what's wrong with that nurse???? I hope you shot her a raised eyebrow!

(I've been practicing, but the kids just keep looking at me like I've lost my mind!)

I know...poor me!:sad1: ;) I'm better though. On the mend. That nurse is just an unhappy soul with armpit stains! I made sure to give her my most dazzling smile when I left...oh and I think I may have touched every pen on her desk..and coughed a little bit...on the pens...on ACCIDENT...

*ahem*

1.) I had to laugh about the tall drink of water comment!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
2.):rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
People with arm pit stains should NOT make comments about how other people look!

Oatmeal you say???

yup...eating nothing but oat meal for days on end will take the pounds off REAL quick!

maybe I should call Jenny Craig and let them know!

Are you going to yank your cruise dress off Ebay so Ireland can indeed wear it on the cruise?!

Sounds like a wonderful trip!!! I always feel so happy just after booking!

now you have the fun of planning and sewing and disney dreaming in general!

I love to tan...I get the airbrush variety!!! Looks fab!!!:cutie:

Oh sweetpea, I'm sorry. Moving is wretched sometimes. Especially when you were just starting to feel settled. Loneliness is the WORST. I so completely empathize with that. Hang in there!!! We love you!!!

I just love all of the outfits posted this week. Sorry I can't comment each night but just know that I lurk and love  everything! I know how much time and effort you all put into your beautiful work! :goodvibes :flower3:

I hope she gets to feeling better really soon!

Definetely buy Carla's portrait peasant top. And the simply sweet dress is very versatile!

Oh, that's rough! I hope everything works out for the best, and you find a great house and meet some wonderful new friends!

LauraP- I lost your pictures, but I love the doll outfits!!! Those are great! I really love the picture of your daughter and the dolly lying down!!

My Mom just called with some good news. They think that maybe Grandma didn't have a blood infection after all. And, she may be coming home this afternoon!

So, if you could all say some prayers for her speedy recovery, and for my Mom to keep her sanity, that would be great!

Doesn't she have Giselle hands in this pic? Maybe it's just me, but everytime I look at her in this one I can hear her saying "when you meet the someone..."

That Susie doll does have a wonderful wardrobe!

Really love the pocket detail on the bubble top. :thumbsup2
