If the homemade bias tape is not cut properly it won't work right with the curved parts of the dress. The bias tape has to be cut at an angle across the fabric. If that makes sense. The angle that it is cut at makes it easier to curve the bias tape around any curves you might have. That is why I buy store bought bias tape.
I love those tiered dresses...too too cute!!
are they tough to make or on the easier side?
As a complete and total novice who completely admits to throwing in the towel as soon as things get overly complicated and I feel like a moron...
would these dresses be too difficult for a beginner?![]()

gotta ask where did you get the fabric? My dd would die for that.
But, this is my favorite, FAVORITE dress. Cinderella is my favorite Disney movie and I always liked this dress better than Cinderella's ball gown.

Now that looks like fun. DD and DH have never been to the ocean so I think that we are going to take a little trip to the beach when we go to Florida in May. Does anyone have any recommendations for a nice not too busy beach to visit? This is what we did today. It was in the 80s...and gorgeous out.

I'm afraid to try the headbands. I don't think that I can get one to turn out right. I love the big flower and the doll dress. DD doesn't have any dolls with nice hair so don't feel bad. What pattern did you use to make your headband?Well, this is what I did today. I attempted a headband. Ended up pretty lucky, it fits her head exactly. Tried one of the fabric daisies. I don't know what happened between gathering and stitching it together, it fell flat. I will have to try again. Is it too big? And I finished the outfit for the doll, which you can tell by her dishelved hair has been immaculately cared for (grrr).

Thank you for reminding me of Teresa's bookmarks there are several links for headbands. I might give them a try. Jenna got her hair cut short and it really looks cute in a headband.Um, one of her old ones. I just made a tube longer than one of hers and shirred it. I bet Teresa has lots of patterns on her site (slapping head!). Next time I'll look.
Welcome! Cute custom..and what a cute little tinkerbell! Just curious, where are you in Texas? Your dd looks a lot like this other little girl that I know, and her name is Carissa too, and she has a little sister, Cailey.
(about the weather). That pattern only goes up to a size 3
so I'm going to have to figure out how to make a size 12! If I remember correctly, it is basically 2 half circles and a quarter circle with a curve on top for the waist, stitch all 3 pieces together, hem the bottom and 2 sides, serge or zigzag the waist then make a (long) double sided waistband/tie (different fabric for each side) and just stitch it ON TOP of the waist of the skirt. Make a buttonhole in the waistband to pull the tie through and voila! It was pretty easy. And because it is adjustable, your waist size doesn't have to be perfect.
