My Granddaddy passed away yesterday and the funeral is tomorrow too. He was almost 98 and had been in very poor condition physically for a long time. We had a nice visit with him at New Years. He knew me and talked to me for a good long while that afternoon and I'm thankful for that. I'll miss him but I'm happy that he's home now....no wheelchair required. :)
 to you. You reminded me of when my dad passed away, which will be 5 years ago tomorrow. (Hanky alert). He had been in a coma for 3 weeks, but woke up to talk to everyone and kiss my mom good-bye (they had been married 58 years). He got very agitated and kept pulling away the monitor wires and the oxygen tube, and we tried to stop him. Then my brother said,"let his hands go," and what do you think happened? He reached out towards Heaven. One day we will know what he saw. I wonder if it was my grandparents, my two brothers who each died before they were born, an angel, or Jesus Himself. If God really has a sense of humor, it was my mom's parents, who were none too fond of my dad.:)
So I know that what waits for us is better than any of us can imagine. Hope your grandfather is enjoying the feast.

I just came within inches of sliding into a plow! My antilock brakes finally kicked in and if the only time it ever happens again is on Test Track I would be very happy.I am still shaking!

I think we have just about enough of the fluffy stuff. Maybe I could ship some to you gals in warmer states!
OK you could send us a little snow. It's still a novelty around here. and I hear you on the cost of food. I have to go back to the grocery store because they overcharged me by more than $4 on 2 jars of peanut butter. It's the principle of the thing, you know?

I'm new here, (not to the DIS, just the Wish board,) and am trying to lose weight. I would love to be able to get back down to a size 12. I'm a size 16 right now, so while I'm not horribly obese, I do want to lose some weight.

There's actually a Hershey's one I love, it has mini kissables, and cocoa cereal, as well as chocolate chips.

:welcome: I like the Reese's 100 calorie packs. They sound similar to the Hershey's.

Have a blessed, skinny Sunday all.

I have a question. I know I should exercise more, but I really can't afford a gym membership, have no exercise equipment, and I really can't do anything outside right now since it's absolutly freezing. I've had a runny nose for the past three weeks from the cold that I can not get rid of! Is there anyway to exercise indoors for free?

The only thing I can think of to do is to run up and down the steps over and over again, and even then I'll only do it when I'm home by myself, since otherwise people think I'm really weird.

Here's a page I just found of reviews of a bunch of different 100 calorie packs.

I do the Walk Away the Pounds videos. They are very EASY to do! There are only four steps you have to learn. There is a 1, 2, 3, & 4 mile DVD. It also has a stretchie band with the 3/4 mile one. That helps with toning. It WILL make you sweat! which is a good thing ya' know. ;) You can get them for about $15 at WallyWorld (aka WalMart).

Wow, this week was 22.1 pounds lost!!!!

With YTD total of 153.93!!!!!!

We had several not check in :sad1:

I didn't send PM's and maybe I shoulda!

WELCOME!!

I suggest going to your local library and renting some exercise videos. I haven't tried them, but you might want to look for the Walk Away the Pounds DVD/Videos. You can also sneak some exercise into your day by parking farther from the store, taking the stairs everywhere, making a point to put laundry away right away rather than waiting to have a full basket, etc.

Good luck!

I think I'll try the 12x calorie thing. That seems to be what would be best for me, and the way I eat. So I'll aim for 150 by September, (my trip to Disney,) so that gives me eight months to lose 46 pounds. That seems somewhat doable, and that way I can still eat 1,800 calories a day. That seems like more then enough.

My biggest problem is snacking, and not realizing how much I eat at a time. Like betweent yesterday and this morning I ate a whole bag of mini rice cakes. That's like 390 calories, which actually isn't too bad. But I also ate about 300 calories worth of Doritos this afternoon. As well as the yogurt I had for breakfast, (100,) and then my lunch of pierogies, (360,) and a fruit cup parfait thing, (110,) and also a banana, (105.) So, so far today I've had 1365 calories. I guess 1,800 really isn't that many after all. They do add up quickly. And I still have dinner to eat, (I think I'll have salad, with no croutons tonight!) and work to get through, (no doughnut tonight either.) Then I'll just have to stop myself from snacking when I get home, (at midnight,) from work.

i did the 12 x goal weight thing and that worked for me. well, that and drinking water and exercising (mostly uping my cardio). i think the water thing was the best thing i ever did. i used to drink water every day, just not enough. i'd always drink diet soda and sweet tea (i'm a southerner) with it. but when i cut out the diet soda and sweet tea, the weight FELL off! i had the same reasoning when it came to diet soda - no calories, right? but i think the thing that happens at least with me and diet soda is that my body doesn't know what to do with all that "stuff" that's in there, so it sort of just slows down my body's process of digesting and getting rid of the other foods i have in my tummy. i didn't realize how when i cut out all that stuff i would feel sooooooo much better and the weight would start to come off a lot easier. i do allow myself 1-2 cups of coffee in the morning though. i wouldn't be a very nice person without it!

about your exercise question, i don't have much advise for indoor workouts other than the gym and just going out and buying some exercise DVDs. HOWEVER, the best thing i did was start running. so when the weather warms up wherever you are, get out and start with walking, then slowly work in some short jogging spurts in between. i hurt my knee in soccer when i was 14 and can't run for long periods of time, so i try to run 5 minutes, then walk 5 minutes, etc. it's AWESOME cardio!

Dawn I have this image of me causing the entire class to fall over like dominos. I'll have to find something less intense and then work up to that.

you can do it! believe me......i've seen people in those classes that knew a lot less about working out than you do and they did it! the good thing about weight training is you can start with very light weights and build up from there.

Okay, I really have to go to work now. I'm due there in twenty minutes, luckily it only takes five minutes to get there from my house.

I'm soaking the all-bran to make the pooh: muffins. thought I'd run UM's recipe again since the old thread is gone.

*makes 24*

3 C. "All Bran" cereal (I call it nuts and twigs) either the nuggets or stick kind
2 1/2 C. water
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 pkg. KRUSTEAZ Fat Free Brownie mix....can use any fat free brownie mix, I think!

Soak the cereal in water for at least 10 minutes.

Add baking powder, vanilla, and brownie mix and mix well. (I use Kitchen Aid)

Spray muffin pan with PAM then fill each tin about 1/2 full.

Bake in preheated 350* oven for about 25 minutes.

75 calories a piece

I have Pass Porter and TGM.

I love the Pass Porter, since at this point I don't really "need" a guidebook, but I do like the pocket-pages, and the charts and stuff inside. It works very well for me as an organizer.

I also like TGM, though I usually just use that for the LCPC. I rarely use the forums over there anymore, since it takes awhile to get an answer. If you do join there, you can always PM me if you need any help using his site.

Thanks I will.

i'd always drink diet soda and sweet tea (i'm a southerner) with it.

Punkin what's the difference between sweet tea and iced tea? I drink unsweetened iced tea when I go to restaurants and then add Splenda to it because I like it better than say for instance Nestea. To me it tastes like real tea when it's not sweetened first and then you add the sugar or Splenda.

Hey there, peeps!! Nice new digs!

Sorry I have not arrived before. I did receive the PM, but there was a PMing frenzy going on that day and I had to clean out my PM box cause it was full, and then I deleted a bunch of stuff that I should have saved, including this link! Thanks to Mo for sending it to me again!

I have switched from Atkins now! I only planned on staying on it for a month, and I have finished the month. Now I am doing my own thing, but it is sort of south Beach-ish. I am trying to keep my calories down and still not eat any sugar. I bought some sugar free fudgecicles to satisfy the chocolate beastie inside!

Hope everyone else is doing well. I have not lost any weight this week, in fact I was up a couple pounds but I think I am PMSing. At least I hope so! Plus I had not been drinking as much water as I was before. But today I made sure to drink a lot. Hoping for good things this Friday weigh-in!

sugar! i was raised in a house where you blended in sugar immediately after you brewed the tea so it would dissolve well. because i grew up with tea made this way, i can definitely taste the difference between tea that's sweetened while hot with sugar (w/ ice added later) and tea that's been sweetened with splenda (or another sugar substitute) after it's cooled down. also, in the south (except for in florida....who knows why!) most restaurants offer sweet tea and unsweetened tea. from working in restaurants through college, i know that we'd take an entire pitcher of sugar and stir it into the tea urn (one of those big round metal ones) before the cold water was added so it would dissolve well. yes, an ENTIRE PITCHER OF SUGAR. :scared1:

not that i have anything against splenda and the like. i was just raised on that all-sugar sweet tea and it's something i had to cut out. i do treat myself every now and then, but it's not something i have regularly any more.

I went there tonight too. (well, had DH bring it home actually) I was just craving some fries in a bad way. At least you know it was not the best choice and will not do it all the time....that is a big accomplishment in itself sometimes.
Thanks for joining me in the moment of "weakness"..its nice to know you are not alone sometimes! :lmao:

I'm right there with you. We had b-day cake at work yesterday, and I was so proud that i took a piece the dimensions of a deck of cards. Then my students were eating double stuff oreos, and I inhaled 4 before I knew it. Oh well, every little bit of control helps, right. I went back and wrote it all down in my journal today so I maintain some kind of accountability.
Right..i need to be accountable even with the bad stuff!

before we went over there we stopped by our neighbor's house to see how he was doing. as i told you guys earlier, he had part of his tongue cut out where they found the tumor and they also took out his lymph nodes. anyway, amber (his wife) wasn't there and he couldn't talk very well, so i didn't really get to talk to him about disney. it did come up though - he was telling us how long it had been since he smoked and he said, "since before we went to disney world." and i said, "yeah, i heard about that. did you guys have fun?" and he nodded and said, "snow white's hot." :lmao: i told him i'd come over soon so amber could tell me all about it. i'll get the scoop then!

it was cute though - he had a magnadoodle he was writing stuff with instead of talking. and our other neighbors made him flash cards that consisted of things like "leave me alone", "more pain meds, please" and "hi, my name is shawn ______ and my address and phone number are ______" (in case he gets lost!) haha!

just be extra good the rest of this week and maybe all the big mac and fries will do is give your metabolism a good kick!
Aww..thats pretty cute about the magnadoodle..it sounds like its helping to keep his spirits up..so important when you are going through that sort of thing!!
YES i agree dawn..i think the McDonalds excursion def. did SOMETHING to my metabolism...:rolleyes1 so i am not worried about it anymore...

I was reading your post eating a Boston Creme donut, that's bad
i should have had that instead!
Stop talking about Big Mac's please!

Now I want one! lol!
Oh you will not hear me talk about that for a long time..i was so sick last night and this mornign from the stupid thing..which is good in a way..because i certainly do not want fast food for a very long time!

Ooohhh now that's my kind of tea! A whole pitcher? Wow! Bet it tasted GOOOODDDD though! :thumbsup2 Yes, I was brought up in the South and had sweet tea that you sweeten while the tea is still hot. Just no better way to drink it.

Sweet tea is the nectar of the gods. :cloud9: I would prefer to not think about how much sugar is in it, because I can go through a 2 gallon jug of it in about 2 days....and nobody else in the house drinks it :scared1:

Thanks I will.

YEP - tis how I was raised also - Texans!! :thumbsup2

TEXANS!! :cool1:

and like Paula Deen - something about a cuppa sugar or a pounda buttah!! Makes the world go round...

*sigh... its taken some time, but I can drink iced tea plain - but hot tea, I gotta have sugar... terrible thing... sugar....

and now that dratted MickeyD's is offering Sweet Tea here, in the NORTH!! :faint: I just know I'm going to have to do a taste test!! Most places do NOT know how to do iced tea btw - and I forgot to mention the bottled teas you get have an off taste - its because you cannot keep brewed tea overnight - it gets stronger - so in order to stop that they add citric acid, which for me is an "off taste" Lipton is trying real hard to make a brewed tea for me to purchase in a bottle, they are close - just not quite there!!

its the syrup - YUCK - you have to brew tea to get iced tea!! or Sun Tea is ok too... *duh!!

Lexmelinda Good Morning - just wanted you to know I will be thinking of you!!

(yes, its 1 AM here, dd is having bad dreams, and did some sleepwalking - she knocked over her humidifier - what a mess! I havent heard from her in awhile, so I think I can go to bed now!!)

also, I updated my Half Marathon Trip Report - lots of pictures!!! (our first day in the MK sans kids!)
