i think i'll go ahead and file my taxes this week just in case it's based on when the taxes are filed. i know that i can file and not send in my check at the same time......as long as i send it before 4/15. if it's based on the last 2 digits of my social, we're gonna be late on that list. both DH and i have higher numbers. :crazy2: not that it matters when we get the $1200 check....i'm gonna have to borrow the money from either my mom or grandparents anyway and pay them back when we get the check.

thanks for the info!

Your welcome

I don't know of any cute Disney-ish favors, but wanted to chime in and say: I LOVE that you're doing a disney theme! Is it the classics? Princesses? We have cookie bouquets here...maybe google for ideas. The cookie bouquet would be a great centerpiece.

I am offically sick:sick: I had a 102.1 fever yesterday afternoon. But, I don't feel as bad today so hopefully the medicine is kicking in.

Oh no! The flu is awful this year! Feel better soon.

Hi all, :wave2:

Dawn - I know about tipping 20%, even though tipping is not the norm over here. We do still tip, but its generally 10% for good service but there is a minimum wage over here for all workforces so I think thats why tips aren't a way of life! When we go on holiday, especially in the USA we do tip at least 20% - service has to be pretty bad to get less than that.

WatchingCaptainKangaroo - Welcome to the peeps!

LMO429 - Im getting married this year too, we dont tend to have Bridal Showers (im not even sure what they are  ), but it sounds like fun!

pixiedust: to everyone who is ill, or have sick kiddos, :wave2: to everyone else!

LOL! a bridal shower is when your mom (or bridesmaids) host a party for all woman and you get gifts off your wedding registry! honestly im not a fan of going to them and i did not want one but my mom insisted.

Sorry for everyone who is sick. Hope that you all get better soon!!

All the May trip peeps... man I wish we could do a mini-meet. I just doubt I will be able to since Mr Kat feels wonky about message board people. (he thinks I spend too much time here... shhh!!) I would love to meet all of you though!!

I had to work from 5PM-midnight yesterday trying to get an upgrade to work right, so I wound up only eating about 800 calories. I guess that's a good thing.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

i wish i was going later! we'll be there april 27 - may 3. anyway, my DH isn't too keen on meeting strangers, either. winkers is going when i am and i suggested a breakfast with her so i could let him sleep in that day. that may be something you'd want to consider too! just a thought. ;)

i prepaid quarterly taxes and i still owe $1800. :sad2: it wouldn't have been so bad except DH changed his filing status at work when they changed payroll companies and didn't tell me. so he didn't pay in as much this year. he's changing that next week!

Oh I thought that's all you had to pay.

If you filed a 2007 income tax return and meet the qualifications then you will get the rebate.

If you do not pay 90% of your taxes in by 12/31/07 (with a W2) or 1/15/08 for quarterly payers you will be hit with a penalty and be required to pay 125% the next year before those dates.

If you cannot pay 1/4 quarterly how do you pay 100% now?:confused3

We drained our savings account. DH waits until he gets paid by a big job from now until then and he'll start putting $$ away. I knows it sounds crazy but since we've been married we have always done it this way. I like taking a % and then putting it in a saving account like Dawn does, see we are already behind though. So my final question about taxes is, if we pay our taxes all of what we owe with the penalty byt 4/15/08 and we qualify we will get money back?

Thanks for the info

laura - what i've done in years past is just taken 23% (i know it's an odd number, but it works for me) of every paycheck and put it into savings. then when my quarterly taxes are due i just empty out my savings account. usually that method works well. last year i was owed $17, so it worked out pretty much perfectly. the previous year i think i got like $300 back. anyway, this year it didn't work because of DH changing his number of dependants from 0 to 1. i have no clue why he did that. :rolleyes2

i'm thinking of incorporating this year so i won't have to pay self-employment tax. i'm still weighing that option to see if it's the best one for me though.

Dawn that sounds like a good idea. We need to start doing that because we have no more savings account because of that. Some of what saves us is that we pay for our own insurance. I keep all receipts of everything, prescriptions, doctor co-pays, dental visits and that goes towards our taxes. One year because I was paying cobra ($1200 a month) we actually got back money. Then the next year we used it to pay them. :rotfl2:

Morning peeps.

Laura, I am an accountant and my husband is self employed also. I know how tough it is to deal with quarterlies. If at all possible, you should really try to pay some in each quarter. The penalities you are paying by not doing it this way is costing you more money than if you paid quarterly. And yes, if you are current on your taxes by the filing deadline, you would be eligible for the rebate. The government does not keep track of quarterlies during the year; they have no way of knowing what your liability would be until you file your annual return.

LMO I love that you are disney-theming your shower. I sure wish I could have gotten one of the 3 boys to agree to a Disney wedding. No such luck. Well, there is one still unmarried but he's already said NO WAY.

And thanks to all for the May input. I guess golf is just busy right now. Mo has golfed there many times and has never had problems getting early tee times. He got tee times for this trip but not at the courses he wanted to play. He's a very good golfer and prefers to play the harder courses but those were the ones already booked. I'm just glad he didn't decide not to play at all because I'm going to the spa on those 3 days and I don't want him messing up my plans. :rotfl:

Monica Very happy to hear the fever has broke. I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything is going in the right direction now.

I hope you all have a great day. It's raining here so no chance to go walking outside. It's so much more enjoyable than huffing and puffing along on the treadmill.

Dawn, breakfast is a great idea. I might be able to swing that, since he doesn't like either early or breakfast.

I've been very good recently with my diet. I have not been very good at keeping my WISH journal up-to-date, but I have been sticking to my 1,800 calorie a day thing, though some days I am over.

Yesterday I ate 1,650 calories, and said I was done eating for the day, but then one of the ladies I work with had cookies, and our store has really good cookies, so I had one, and ended up having 1,830, and then another 50-calorie piece of chocolate once I got home.

I bought several of those 100-calorie pack things, and they are working well for me, since they are already pre-portioned.

So far today I've had about 1,000 calories. I'm planning on a Weight Watchers frozen meal for dinner, and then I think I'll have some popcorn tonight during the academy awards. I have those 100-calorie bags of microwave popcorn, and a bag of that, is like a perfect size for me.

I also did very well with my grocery shopping last night, pretty much staying away from junk. I passed up hot dogs, even though it was a good sale, and instead got an all natural frozen eggplant thing, frozen vegetable patties, which I read the nutritional info on before buying, and they seem to be pretty healthy, and Weight Watchers entrees.

We have something here that makes fruit arrangments called Incredible edibles. They have a kid section and have disney themes. The princess one has a crown in it. They are expensive, but if you go to their website and look at the arrangements, I'm sure you could copy it. Looks easy.

I believe its incredibleedibles dot com.

They dip them in chocolate and stuff. Very yummy.

Punkin---My DH is self employed as well and we soooo hate TAX TIME. HE pays quarterly as well. Last year he did not project well and we ended up oweing. Hopefully this year he did better. Our accountant is doinghis now and then will do our family taxes.

It has been a very rough week. A week ago I went and said goodbye to my dear friend Christie. I got to sepnd about 1.5 hours with her even though she slept most of the time. She woke for about 5 minutes---she can't see and she quit speeking about 3 weeks ago. You can tell by her eye movement if she hears you. Last Sunday I went and watched her youngest son while her DH took the 5 year old out for some one on one time. They were supposed to have moved her on Firday 22nd to an in house Hospice place about 1.5 hours away, but the Dr. came in Monday morning and said it was pointless to do. About a week prior she started not eating and swallowing. She then on Saturday started to forget to breath. Seizures started on Sunday and so now she is heavily medicated and still having some seizures--you can tell by her hands. She is in constant pain. Well on Thurs. night I got a call that they think that will be her last night. I have been dreading the phone ringing, but at the same time ready for her not to be in the state that she is in. Friday I felt lost and still do. I was going through some items given to Rebekah and came across the card that she had given me and that she couldn't wait to meet her---she was admitted the day after Rebakah was born and I never got to show her Rebekah. Even though I knew the end was near I never gave up on the miracle. I guess her miracle is that she will soon be out of pain and in the presence of our Lord and Savior. Please continue to pray for her DH and boys. Pray for strength and wisdom. I will stop rambling now.

I've been following along with your friend Heather and I just read what you posted and it's just so sad what she's leaving behind. Your friend has touched me in such a way I can't describe.

I am so sorry you are losing a dear friend.

Heather, my heart just breaks for you, Christie and her family. My thoughts and prayers will be with all of you. Fighting cancer has defined my life but I'm just not sure that anyone can truly be prepared for death. I will continue to pray for strength and comfort for all of you.

You're not rambling at all. Sometimes I think it helps to say it or in our cases right it. Please know that you and her family are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm so sorry that you had to say goodbye to your friend.

Faith you are absolutely right about paying our taxes quarterly. He knows as well as I that we pay a lot more than we have to. Thank you for the info on the rebate though. I also called my husband's aunt (she's our accoutant) and asked her about the rebate. We will be getting around $2100 back. I told DH that's going in the bank right away for our Disney trip in 2009.

LMO I love that you are disney-theming your shower. I sure wish I could have gotten one of the 3 boys to agree to a Disney wedding. No such luck. Well, there is one still unmarried but he's already said NO WAY.

Does your son already have a girlfriend. Maybe you screen them before he dates them and make sure SHE wants a Disney wedding. I'm hoping one of mine do, I have two boys and a girl. Cross my fingers. I did tell my DH that for our 25th we are going to do a vow renewal though at Disney. He just shakes his head. He thinks I'm nuts.

Laura, I love this idea. He does have a current girlfriend but she's pretty easygoing and I'm sure I could start planting subliminal messages--maybe having her listen to a Wishes CD while she sleeps or something. I think they are getting serious (dating one year now) but I should still have time to use my "powers of persuasion".

I also hinted about the vow renewal and DH is so easygoing I thought he'd go for it but it's still a NO. Besides, I think I'm too old to ride in Cinderella's coach. :rotfl:

I think I forgot to say before that the wine in the room thing sounded good! We'll have to keep talking as plans solidify and try to work something out. And my friend and I are going to the spa at Saratoga Springs one morning for manis and pedis too, so if you wanted to do breakfast, that might be a good morning. DH and my friend's DH are doing the fishing excursion that morning.
