DISappearing Peeps...A fastpass to THIN! Part 3

Hey guys - newbie here. Actually, this is my 1st post! I'm really glad to see a weight loss topic here. I had RNY Gastric Bypass 7/17/06 and have lost 105 lbs and am getting close to needing to maintain. One of my goals was to be able to fit on the rides at Disney! I think I'm there! (I'll have to test that out soon, no formal date for a trip yet...) Since my surgery, I've decided to go back to school and get my RN and help other obese and morbidly obese people by being a bariatric coordinator. I also want to start a community program (that's free) that will teach nutrition to kids & their families, and teach them how to make quick, easy, healthful meals.

I've been reading through this board and you guys are doing an awesome job! It's much easier to lose the weight with some great support! I'm headed to kickboxing and ab-blast at 9am. Gotta use that membership, since I figure what DH and I gave for it should cover a nice chunk of a WDW trip. If being cheap motivates me, then I say use it!

Happy Saturday ya'll!

WELCOME! Glad to have you aboard! Did you just change your avatar? There was a pretty ladies picture there earlier, or am I crazy? It could be the latter. ;) You have already taken a big step in your weight loss. We will be here to help you the rest of the way. Make sure you tell us a little about yourself, and weigh in day is on Friday. Make it big and colorful, so that UtahthreadMamaweightlosstallylady can keep track of our total weight loss. Oh, one more thing, you need to post a bathing suit pic of yourself....:rolleyes1 We all did it! ;) (j/k)

Ok, Peeps, I have made a decision. We AREN"T wearing our Easter best tomorrow. Now it is supposed to be 22.:scared1: It is just too cold for the outfits we have. All sleeveless for the girls, and short sleeves for the boys. I would rather wear my pretty clothes when it is warmer. Wish it was going to be warmer tomorrow. :sad1:

I had a funny thing happen this morning. I woke up at 6:30 and looked at my husband in sheer panic. I told him, I forgot to set out the easter eggs for the kids to hunt! He looked at me like I had TWO HEADS! Then it hit me, Oh yeah today is Saturday! Then I rolled over and went back to sleep. We had yesterday off from school as a weather day, and it has totally thrown me for a loop. :sad2:

Gotta stay away from the Easter candy, Gotta stay away from the Easter candy.... maybe if I keep saying it, I will. :thumbsup2

Love the picture. When I let the roots go, I get stripey like that.:lmao:

Prayers for Grandma. Wow, 100 y.o. I'm glad she's not in pain.
Thanks, dweatl. Your stripey roots comment cracked me up! I'm trying to motivate myself to get showered and back over to the hospital.

GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE!!! :sunny:

After yesterday's freaky, apocolyptic snow storm, the temp is currently 23!!! :scared1:

23 here, too, Melinda - Brrrrrr!

The peeps allready got me, Misty. I showed them though! Bit off their little heads. ;)

See cartoon below!

NO! Cheryl, I was going to get some of these when I started feeling icky before our trip last fall. I had never used Zicam before so searched it online and guess what I found.....Zicam settled a $12 million class action lawsuit with 340 people who lost their sense of smell after using it! I took Cold-Eez zinc lonzenges and they stopped my cold in its tracks. They have a disgusting after taste but they REALLY work!

My family thinks I could stand to reduce my hyper sense of smell, but I have read that too and woried about it a bit. Babynurse told me to try putting some warm saltwater in my nose last night and that worked pretty well.

Prayers for your Grandma. My Granddaddy is 97 and it's awful to see him in that frail little body that won't cooperate. Everytime he gets a cold he had to go to the hospital. He's still my big, strong Granddaddy inside there. I bet you feel the same way about your Grandma.

Yes, it is tough. This may seem weird for me to say, but part of me feels like my Grandma really wanted to make it to her 100th birthday milestone and that maybe her body just let down after that. We had a lovely party for her with pretty much the whole family there. So I'm very grateful for that.

welcome beka!!! :welcome: glad to have you.

i have a friend who had gastric bypass about 3 years ago. she's lost like 180 pounds. IMO she should've stopped at 130 - she looked good then. she's too skinny now! anyway, she's always having problems with her digestive system, especially with going to the bathroom. she also gets kidney stones a lot and has had some gall bladder problems. honestly, though, she doesn't eat what she should be eating. we went to mcdonald's not too long ago to get something quick to tide us over until dinner. i got a grilled chicken wrap and she got a super size big mac value meal with an apple pie. i was thinking, "huh????? you're not even going to eat half of that b/c you're stomach can't physically hold it all, so why did you order that????" i'm glad your surgery has worked out for you so well. my boss also had it done and she's doing really well, too, but she changed the way she eats. anyway, have you heard of any kidney stone and/or gall bladder problems in relation to the gastic bypass surgery?

What kind of mattress was it? Was it one of those cushy Tempurpedic or just a cushy regular one? I really want a King size mattress! We have a queen and it is fine, but when we go on vacation and sleep in a king size, it feels like there is sooooo much more room.

It's a Stearns & Foster latex bed. It has no springs, like a Tempurpedic, but it has a pillow top and looks like a regular mattress. And the sales lady says it doesn't "sleep hot" like a Tempurpedic. :confused3 I guess maybe you get hot easier in one of those? Makes sense theoretically since they kinds form to your body, but I don't know. Does that sounds right Melinda? Anywho, the one we got was amazing. We check out every other pillow top mattress there, just to be sure because this one was more money than we had planned on spending, but DH loved it, and I did too. (When DH and I agree on something like that so easily, it is best if we just do it...it happens so rarely! :rotfl: ) And we have 2 months after they deliver it to change our minds, but I don't think we will.

Congrats on the shorts fitting! I know what a good feeling that is! :goodvibes I will be trying on shorts in about 2 months. Long enough away to maybe lose more weight by then but close enough that it will still give me time to buy more shorts in whatever size I am in! I kept everything that was one size down (was never 2 sizes down!) and I am hoping the shorts/jeans fit. What stinks is I need a new pair of everyday jeans (wear jeans to work ED) but don't want to buy them now. Am hopeful I can go down one size. But mine are wearing out..I am waiting for the knees to wear through! :headache:

I know what you mean. I don't want to buy a bunch of clothes until I get down a couple more sizes. I have a variety of sizes in my closet though. Put up from when they used to fit, so as I shrink, I should have something to wear! No guarantees it will be in season or in style anymore though! :rotfl:

Here's my Easter funny:

easter-egg.jpg

My Grandma also went into the hospital late last night with an abdominal infection and is on IV antibiotics. I stopped to see her after work and to talk with my uncle a bit. Fortunately, she wasn't in pain and was alert and able to talk with us, even though she is pretty hard to understand. She's 100 and it looks like her body may just be getting too frail. I'm going back to go back to see her tomorrow.

That picture is too funny! :lmao:

And  and prayers for your grandma! Wow! 100 is amazing! I'm glad she isn't in pain!

my dad lives in antioch! hendersonville is one town south of gallatin (and is also the town where johnny cash and june carter cash lived for many, many years - my DH is a huge johnny cash fan). i also worked in hendersonville in college as an office assistant at kenny rogers productions. anyway, if you're on the main strip that runs through hendersonville (highway 31 a/k/a nashville pike) and you keep heading north or, in other words, the opposite direction of nashville, you'll go right into gallatin in about 10 minutes. it's crazy how much we all have in common and don't even know it!

Cool! Yeah, all three of Mom's friend's daughters went to Antioch High School. (I'm not sure if their house is actually within Antioch or not, but they are in that district.) They live in between the Harding and Haywood Lane exits off of I-24. We used to check out all the country music sights when we went there to visit! My mom was a big fan, so I was too. :) We would go see some singers homes in Hendersonville (and probably Gallatin too). I would sometimes go to Hickory Hollow mall and the wave pool with the other girls. The middle daughter's two daughters were flower girls in my wedding. Mom's friend runs a daycare in her home, and those little ones with the southern accents are always the cutest little things! :goodvibes It seems like we spent so much time there that I still sometimes break out in a little drawl myself! :rotfl: We stopped at their house on the way to WDW in February '06 to spend the night. We just don't get to see enough of them. They are like family!

GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE!!!DD17 has been hired to play the Easter Bunny at an egg hunt. She picked up the costume last night and our whole family is fascinated with it!

I'm happy for her that the temperature is cool but can't imagine how many parents will bring their little darlins to an egg hunt when it's below freezing.

That commitment to just a little exercise is where you will see a big difference, Lynda. I'm sure of it!

GREAT!!! :cool1:

Lucky! DH and I still sleep in a double bed! I KNOW!!! We recently got a Tempurpedic and now he says it hurts his back!? :confused3

A 1400 calorie SALAD! :scared1: Thank goodness you only ate half!

My knees are beginning to show some melty qualities. I don't mind getting older...I just don't like looking older. ;)

HeeHee! Will there be pictures of your DD the bunny? :)

Thank you! I had walked Jasper for about 3 weeks straight, and before that I was doing the bike or exercise ball pretty faithfully for a couple of weeks. I am back to the ball and bike now that the weather has turned cold again. I may be building muscle. So, we'll see what happens in the next couple of weeks.

Oh, the Tempurpedic is hurting your DH now? That's not good! I wonder why!

I am probably overestimating on that salad. If you look it up on calorie king, it says without crackers and toast. Well, it comes with neither and I eat neither, but it does come with quesadillas, which I either have them leave off or give to DH, so I'm not sure if they're included or not in the total on calorie king. They probably are, but I have no idea how much they are so I just split the total amount in half! I ask them to put half the salad in a to go container when I order, so I know I'm only eating half. It's my fave salad there! It has grilled chicken, black beans, corn, tortilla strips, & a little cheese with citrus balsamic vinagerette. I'm also bad at judging measurements, so I try to overestimate on the dressing amount too. (It's separate on calorie king.)

I haven't heard about kidney problems, but yes, LOTS of GB issues. I had mine out years before surgery, but my surgeon will take it out anyway. Ulcers and strictures (too much scar tissue in the stoma, which doesn't allow food to pass through) are all common issues.

I'll indulge in an occasional burger, but it's the real thing, not some McJunk and only eat 1/4 to 1/3 of it, depending on the original size. I even eat pizza! The difference is that now I don't eat that junk every day, and the amount I eat is much less.

I eat to live, I don't live to eat!

:welcome: I love it here! This is a great group!

I used to take Cold-Eez all the time but for some reason the after taste gets to me now. A couple of times I thought I was going to throw up afterwards. Maybe I don't have a tolerance for them anymore?? I guess I will just have to stick with my orange juice. :confused3

Welcome!! This is a really great group and posting has really motivated me to stick to my diet/exercise program!! pixiedust:

Have you tried Airborne? I use it all the time and I think if I do it when my cold first starts it really works.

:welcome:

You've came to the right place for encouragement and support. This board is filled with an amazing group of Peeps that provide assistance anyway that they possibly can. Congratulations on losing 105 lbs. :thumbsup2

Good afternoon! Last night I was reading back on the earlier posts of this thread to get some more ideas. WOW! This board moves fast! I realized that my introduction to myself was pretty lame. Here is a little more about me:

Age:27
Married love:
Location:Indiana
Hobbies: Well, the DIS of course, shopping (is that a hobby? I guess for me it is!:) ), reading, scrapbooking, baking (now I need to learn how to do it in a low calorie way), I love movies, board games and making things for my classroom.
Favorite non-weight watcher food: Pizza, cheeseburgers, chocolate chip cookies, ice cream...(I could keep going):) .
Favorite WW item (as of right now): Lean Cuisine Egg Roll Meal, Fiber One Chocolate Bars, Orange Walmart brand Crystal Light, Edy's 1/2 fat ice cream rocky road, popcorn.
Children: Well, I like to joke that I have 24 seven year olds ;) but, I don't have any children of my own yet. Someday I would like to.
Favorite movies: Disney movies of course. I am trying to collect them. I like to say it is for my future children but who am I kidding!? I also love the trilogy. I know if there are any Star Wars fans here that is where your mind probably went. But, I am talking about the real trilogy: Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink.
Television Shows(top 3): Friends, Gilmore Girls, The Office.
Weight Loss Goals: Well, today I will be purchasing a scale:scared1: . So, I will post a more accurate amount tonight. I am doing weight watchers with a kit I bought a few years ago. For excercise right now I am walking. I am also going to get a balance ball.

So, that is just a little more about me! Today I am off to fill my house with foods that are healthy and to get the dreaded scale. Have a great day everyone!:wave2:

:welcome: to Beka. That's great that you want to help others with nutrition, especially kids and their families. It's so important to have a good start and build healthy habits. BTW, there's a 105 lb. ribbon in the smilies if you want it. Go to User CP, click on edit signature. Then go to the smilies and click on More at the bottom. then scroll down till you get to the W.I.S.H. ribbons. Click on the one you want, and it will show up in all of your posts.

Melinda- Yes, I was fasting for Good Friday. Not totally abstaining from food, but just 3 small meals, simple foods, and no snacking. I work in a very multicultural school, and I find the different religions rules on fasting very interesting. What I did is a Catholic fast. My friend, Jayshree, is Hindu, and she does fasting days where she eats no sweets or salt. And I've had Muslim students who have nothing, not even water, from sunrise to sunset, and then feast when the sun goes down. I think all of these are good to remind us that we live in a time and place of overindulgence, but we are called to live a life of self-control. Also, it is a reminder of all who have very little, and helps me to have sympathy for the hungry. If you ever hear someone say poor people are lazy or stupid, tell them to try fasting for a day and see how energetic and brilliant they feel.

OK, I'm off the fasting soapbox now. Have a great Holy Saturday everyone. We're going out to eat tomorrow, but I have to get the house clean because the restaurant is closest to my house, and I have the feeling everyone will be coming here.:butterfly

just a flyby post to say that...........

this very minute in exactly one month i will be eating lunch at le cellier!!!!!!!!!!!!

you can't tell that i'm excited about my trip, huh?

i'm off to clean out my closets since it's so *$%#@~ cold here, thus eliminating the potential for any yard work. i'll either return celebrating b/c a lot of my clothes are too big or sulking because they still fit! have a good afternoon everyone!!! :)

OK...Back from the Easter Bunny thing....there's 4 1/2 hours of my life I'll never get back. Sheesh! :scared:
wow....that's the first i've heard of it and it worries me b/c both my sister (23) and my brother (20) are living downtown.
I'm sure your parents know where that stuff happens and wouldn't let your brother & sister live anywhere that they didn't think they were safe. Don't worry!
:rotfl2: I love that!
I'm stealing Lynda's idea of posting her totals for the day. I think the extra accountability will help me. So here are Friday's totals
That's great, Shannon! I read in a magazine at the doctor's office this week that keeping a food journal is one of the best ways to help you lose weight. Personal accountability! Bravo!
Hey guys - newbie here. Actually, this is my 1st post!
:welcome: to the peeps and to the DIS! Post often so we can get to know you. We LOVE SC!!! It has been our only beach vacation destination for the last 20 years. We always go to Isle of Palms but never been to Myrtle Beach. I hear it's pretty happening! Anyway....glad you're here!
Makes sense theoretically since they kinds form to your body, but I don't know. Does that sounds right Melinda?
Oh, the Tempurpedic is hurting your DH now? That's not good! I wonder why!
Yes, Lynda....it does sleep "hot"! (That sounds kinda kinky.) Anyway...it's a bit like sleeping on DS's mattress which is covered with a plastic mattress cover. It doesn't breathe at all. DH thinks it might be better with some sort of pillow top. I'm comfortable on any mattress but he's a picky mattress person.

Oh...and no pictures of DD but we have the costume til Monday! It's not every Easter you have a bunny costume in the house! I asked her if there was anywhere we could go to "share the love". Maybe we'll dress her up tomorrow...at least for a picture. She says it's very HOT in the bunny suit. They took her outside for the egg hunt and then placed her next to the roaring fireplace for pictures. She was very thirsty!
Have you tried the Boca corn dogs? They are so good!
I've got to get some of those corn dogs!!! Wild Oats maybe?
So, that is just a little more about me!
Thanks for the bio! So nice to meet you! :)
I think all of these are good to remind us that we live in a time and place of overindulgence, but we are called to live a life of self-control. Also, it is a reminder of all who have very little, and helps me to have sympathy for the hungry.
Wonderfully well said, Danielle.

I'll check back in later. Have a great day everybody!

OK, I had 2 friends in high school who I was very close to. The 3 of us were best friends. And we used to watch the movie Shag. Who's seen it? I tell you, I love that movie! It makes me want to go to Myrtle Beach so bad! But I often wonder if it is still popular?

She did say something about ours breathing well! Apparently we are going to have to buy extra deep fitted sheets for it. That is going to cost a bundle! :sad2: Not that it will compare to what the mattress set us back! :scared1: Maybe you could try one of those pillow tops that attach to your mattress. I don't remember where I've seen them before, or if they're any good, but they are kinda like a mattress cover, but with a pillow top attached. :confused3 DH is much pickier than I am about mattresses too! I can sleep through a lot of stuff. He is a very light sleeper and has trouble falling asleep a lot! And if he tosses and turns enough, it does wake me up. We think this bed we bought is similar to the ones at the Courtyard by Marriotts that are so freakin' comfy! I can't wait! :cloud9: Except that I just spent time in our guest bedroom cleaning out junk, so there's more room for our current bed in there. And I'm not done yet. That's our catchall room, and I am hoping that getting things rearranged (We are moving our bed and a wall unit into the guest bedroom and the new mattress into ours - on the floor until we can get up to Ikea and buy the bed we want.) will help us keep things neater.

:rotfl: Poor girl! But that's too funny! You should dress her up tomorrow and go "share the love"! :lmao: And don't forget to take pictures!

We thought that when we got our pillow top bed, so we spent $80 on sheets from Bed, Bath and Beyond for the extra deep sheets (and that was with 20% off!). The we found the cutest sheets at Mervyn's for $30, and they fit. I had even bought some sheet extenders, but didn't need them. So, if you have Mervyn's nearby, or Target, try their sheets before you lay out the big bucks. It seems like a lot of places are selling deep pocket sheets as their regular sheet sets.

Lynda! I was also marriedon May 18th! My goal was for us to go to WDW for our 5th anniversary, stay on the property, and have the guy who made our cake send a small version of our wedding cake to the room and have it waiting for us when we got there. Best laid plans, right? One of my best friends is getting married May 19th and I'm in the wedding! Sheesh! Oh well, that allows us that much more time to plan and save for the trip, maybe for when I graduate with my RN. (Iwas reading your trip report which forced a response!)

MB is a fun place, but quite busy! There are some Imagineers (yes, Disney Imagineers!!!) here right now working on the Hard Rock theme park they're building up the road from where I live. (If you're familiar at all with MB, it's on 501, just west of the Waterway.)

yes, i love that movie! my favorite character was the girl who everyone thought was fat (but she wasn't fat at all!) and she ended up winning the dance contest. i think her nickname was pudge or something like that. anyway, i love the way they talk. "it's the most fun!!!"

i haven't been to myrtle beach since i was like 13. wow....that's a longer hiatus than WDW for me! but i remember we had a blast when we went. i heard the closed down the pavilion. is that true?

Yeah, they're in the process of tearing the Pavillion down now, and moving some of the smaller rides to Broadway at the Beach. I guess the new Hard Rock park will take over the rides. Someone said that the HR park is suppose to be "Disney-esque" !!! How could you ever compare?!

Dene- Well? did you just come out and ask? Warm chocolate dripped onto his 6-pack didn't tempt him??? :rolleyes1

Better start clucking. Sorry, I've been letting my Peeps down... too chicken to say anything. But I did have a lovely time today "stretching" him out... showing him some of the stuff we do in Yoga. He's actually going to start coming to the Tuesday Yoga class! :dance3: And I think one of the reasons I crush on him (besides his looks) is that his sense of humor is just as sick and twisted as mine :rolleyes1... so I'm sure he'll love the chocolate comment once I finally gather my nerve up. :thumbsup2

we grew up in a town just north of nashville that actually had a drive-in movie theater until about 1994 when they finally tore it down.

We still have a drive-in here... never go though, spent enough time there in high school.

What are those exercise challenge things DisMom? :confused3

Somebody already explained. As you can tell from my siggie, I  doing the challenges.

Our biggest Losers were Spongie and Dene...show offs!

In real life, I've actually stopped telling people how much I've lost unless they specifically ask. Sometimes I feel kind of guilty because its been coming off so fast and so easily... then I remind myself that I AM working hard... it just doesn't SEEM like it 'cause I'm enjoying it so much. And I have total confidence that this is a permanent change because I've never had this feeling like this before. I did my 20 year sentence... time to leave the prison of my fat behind (pun not intended, but appropriate anyway :woohoo: ).

I can't believe the weather for this weekend! Here it is April and I am looking out my window to snow!!! Yuck! I really don't want to wear boots tomorrow for Easter.....guess I might have too! :sad2: Guess that's the joys of living in Buffalo, NY!!!

AND Fort Worth/Dallas, TX! Weather Channel guy says it is the first time on record for us to have snow in April! :scared1: It is snowing, but 37/38 degrees. I think I caused it... I had plans to go "out" with some friends from the Y tonight.

I had RNY Gastric Bypass 7/17/06 and have lost 105 lbs and am getting close to needing to maintain. One of my goals was to be able to fit on the rides at Disney! I think I'm there! (I'll have to test that out soon, no formal date for a trip yet...)

Congrats on the loss! You didn't say your current weight, but at 5'8" and 330 lbs (mostly around the middle) I was able to ride EVERYTHING at WDW. :woohoo:
