i've tried to calm down the last couple of years, but i used to be HORRIBLE! when we moved into our house i was packing up our shoes and DH had about 10 pairs compared to my 155!!!!!

Ok. You've got me beat. By about 3x. :worship:
My dream is to have a hugh walk-in closet. Just for my shoes. Like all the rich kids have on Cribs.

Both of you ladies are BEAUTIFUL, like movie-star beautiful!

Thank you. I'm working on accepting compliments gracefully instead of making excuses for myself about how "I must have just been having a good day" or simply, "No, I'm not pretty. You're just saying that to be nice." This was a good little exercise. :goodvibes

I am challenging all of you to set a goal that you would like to reach by Thanksgiving.

Woohoo! Count me in. My goal is to lose 5% of my current weight, which would = 9.86lbs by Thanksgiving, putting me at 187.3lbs.

Finally, thanks to everyone for all of the warm welcomes! It's so comfy here.

Ok, so for my first weekly weigh-in, my loss for this week (and my starting point) is: -5.4lbs!!! Now, I know this is mostly water weight and my body being shocked back into submission with healthy food, but I'm still proud.

The gym last night was a semi-flop. My gym partner and I just couldn't get motivated, so we only ended up walking on the treadmill for about 25 min. Not happy 'bout that this morning but it is better than nothing.

Also, hoping for a little pixie dust for the weekend ahead. See, October is 'birthday month' for us. This month alone I have: myself, my brother, my brother's GF, one dog (and yes, she gets cake), the BF, one cousin, 3 friends and an aunt all celebrating birthdays. And my best friend's anniversary. :faint:

That's a lot of cake.

So far, cake consumption has been nil. However that will change this weekend. My parents are having us (the siblings and SO's) over tomorrow night for pizza and D'Angelo's and cake and presents. I've asked for a chicken Caesar salad with dressing on the side and no pita pokket. And I will have cake, but will try to say no :sad2: to the ice cream and be, ahem, conservative with the cake. On Sunday, we may go out to eat and while I'll try not to go too buckwild, we may being feasting Italiano-style. What? did someone say fried fresh mozzarella? :listen:

Congrats to all of this week's "losers". Great job! And lots of encouragement to all of those who are walking briskly behind the wagon, clipping their pedometers on and trying to get back on track. You can do it! :thumbsup2

TGIF :hyper:

Well, being very much a heterosexual male myself, I can assure you that they are not just "being nice". But even better still, you seem to be just as attractive on the inside, which is where it really counts!

But I know exactly where you are coming from with not accepting compliments gracefully. I even do this with my wife. She'll tell me that I'm looking skinny, and my knee-jerk reaction is to say something like "this shirt is just slimming" or "you have to say that because you're married to me". And even when I do acknowledge that I've lost weight, I feel the need to preface it by saying "but I've still got a lot more to lose before I look really good" or something along those lines. I guess 30 years of being "the fat kid" has forced me to build up this defense mechanism, and it is really tough to shake it since it has served me so well for so long.

Tink-ing- Is it your birthday??????((who's in charge of office birthday's around here...LOL!) Wonderful! AND, birthday cake is a freebie (meaning guilt free!)....Happy Birthday!!!!!!! AND, nice to meet you!

Singing MUA- Likewise, good to meet you! It's so nice to have new friends to journey with!

Ack!!! I was so behind and lost and had tons of comments but I screwed up my multi-quote. :sad2:

"WIDF"- A Turkey Day challenge, eh? Ohhhhhh I do SO well at goal setting and achieving...but what the heck? My turkey day goal will be to lose 5 pounds by then (above and beyond my -1.4 today). AND to only eat ONE piece of Halloween candy each day, if any.

Oh! I lost -1.4 this week! .6 more to lose my WDW weight gain of 2 pounds, which is better than last year's 15. Which took FOREVER to lose....like MONTHS.

I'm of course late here on the west coast but I do have a 1lb loss to post:lmao: Wasn't sure I'd make it after adding the avatar; it probably would have been 2lbs without it.

I hope everyone is having a great Friday. I'll check in later after I see what my staff is up to this morning. I do see another dang donut box out there but at least they moved it farther from my office door.

I forgot to quote this part before. Cake and ice cream are my two biggest downfalls. If I had married a baker, I would probably be pushing 350. And now that they make ice cream that tastes like cake, and cake made out of ice cream? It is almost unfair!

That picture is beautiful!! :hippie:

I am challenging all of you to set a goal that you would like to reach by Thanksgiving.

I'm in too. Hoping to be down 5 lbs. :woohoo:

Today I am down 2 but I don't think it really counts since I've been creeping up again over the past few weeks. :cutie:

This weekend should be pretty good for me. Every year, in order to re-up my fitness instructor certificate, I have to attend this weekend conference. It's all day Saturday and Sunday -- so I should get lots of activity. Now, all I have to do is not go crazy eating afterwards....and everything will be fine! Right? Hmmm......

Have a great day, guys!! :goodvibes

I'm joining the Thanksgiving challenge. I want to lose 5 lbs by then. That would put me at 166 which would be 1 lb less than where I was when I found out I had cancer. It will be a great day when I get below that weight because that's when I'll feel like I'm really living again.

Of course, the week after Thanksgiving we are taking my parents to Las Vegas. It's supposed to be to see Celine Dion but since I've seen that show once already, my plans were to go and eat. So if I get to 166 before we go, maybe it will motivate me to avoid many temptations while in Sin City.

Cake and ice cream are my two biggest downfalls.

My top three downfalls (i.e. if you want to torture me, pass these in front of my nose and tell me I can't have any!):

#3 Macaroni and Cheese, especially from Boston Market
#3b. Just about anything else of melty-cheesy goodness. My own personal Devil is shaped like a mozarella stick.
(Or it's this guy, cuz he really freaks me out: :dancer: )

#2 Haribo gummy bears. They're cute. They're squishy. They're pure sugar. Hook me up. (But they MUST be Haribo. In my opinion there is NO OTHER gummy bear.)

and the lead culprit is...

(drumroll please)

#1 Duncan Hines golden cake with 'coordinating' Duncan Hines milk chocolate frosting.

My heaven consists of fields made of golden cake with milk chocolate frosting rivers. (But no Willy Wonka...unless he's Johnny Depp-shaped.)

And thank you too Mr. WI DisneyFan for that sweet complement.

-2.6 Of course that was my weigh in on Sunday at WW. Then I went to the :beach: and I gained back most of it. Well I have until Monday to lose it again for next week's weigh in. I am close to my goal weight for WW. I plan on losing more, but I set my goal weight high so that I would be FREE sooner. ;)

Oh BTW, we saw a SHARK at the beach. It was literally right along the shore line. It wasn't a big one. It was about 4 or 5 feet long. I took a picture of it with my phone, but it didn't turn out too good. I got a really close picture when it got washed up on shore, but when I looked at my phone I got a really good picture of my FINGER!!:scared: :rotfl: :rotfl: That is just the way my luck goes. Anyway, it was really cool! My dd ran with me down the beach trying to get a picture. It took us a little while before we would get back in the water. I sure wish that music would play so that we would know that it was coming. :rolleyes1

Still trying to catch up! Hi! newbies! Welcome to our party:

My weakest links would be

3. Homemade tollhouse cookies
2. Crispy fried potatoes
1. Tacos made w/soft fried corn tortillas

I think tears would actually spring from my eyes if I saw any one of these right now. I would have put Krispy Kreme plain donuts on here too but the Krispy Kreme's closed down here so they are no longer a hazard for me.

So today we are listing our weaknesses. .thank GOODNESS today is a cheatish day for me or i would be hiding from this board in fear of getting any ideas of "naughty treats" !
I suppose if i have to pick 3, my 3 diablos of food would be:

1. CHEESE...glorious dairy magic...esp. Brie baked in crescent rolls with preserves...mmmmm and muenster..it must be the orange rind.
2. chocolate..if godivas are at my house, i HAVE to limit myself to 1 piece a day or i will be in a sugar coma with truffle evidence all over my face.
3. fried calamari..i know that may sound FISHY (:lmao: ..i'm just so punny) but rhode island style tossed with pepporocinis...something about it i just love!

ok now i am officially hungry..and lookie looks..LUNCHTIME!
( i am SOO going to Curves again today after work!!):rolleyes1

My bad boys are:

1. Any bread based product with butter and or cheese.....nachos, popcorn with cheese, cheese bread, quesedilla, etc. I would put pizza in this category too.
2. cookies, cake, ice cream, candy: But anything more than a few bites make me super sick...so I 've learnt that a little dab'll do yaa!
3. salty: chips, movie popcorn

So I try to adapt with lower fat, sugar free versions. It helps a LOT!

mmmm, something I can really get into, I LOVE food! My top 3 food loves (only 3?) :goodvibes
3. Nachos, nothing fancy, some cheese and sour cream, I really like Taco Bell's Nachos Bell Grande, lucky for me there isn't a Taco Bell for miles. 2. Homemade Macaronni and cheese (I saw a Paula Dean show where she FRIED mac-n-cheese, can we say drool ?) 1. Cookies, brownies, cakes and all yummy baked goods. I'm not picky, bake it and I'll eat it!!!

Since I unwittingly started this, I suppose I should officially state my Top 3 Dieting Pitfalls (truth be told, I could easily go up to 20):

1. Cake
2. Ice Cream
2b. The aforementioned cake flavored ice cream, ice cream cake, traditional cake and ice cream... pretty much any combination that marries cake and ice cream is tops in my book
3. Bread of any sort. Crusty bread, dark bread, spiced bread, herb bread, pumpernickel bread; I'll devour it all (except, funny enough, wheat bread).

But as Wendy said, you can make these things healthier:

1. Cake - how about a slice of Angel Food cake with fresh berries and fat free Cool Whip? Tastes yummy, and won't make you go into a sugar induced coma either
2. Ice Cream - Lots of good options here. Edy's has their Double Churned light ice creams that are delectable. Skinny Cow makes a mean ice cream sandwich. Try a lemon sorbet on a hot summer night instead of digging into the Ben and Jerry's.
3. Bread - Ok, I'm sorta stumped here. I get the light Italian bread when I make sandwiches, which is only 1 WW point for two slices. But besides that, I haven't found a good alternative to what I would call "dinner bread"; the sort of thing that you bake and serve as a side item during supper.

So see, at least for the first two you can have your cake and eat it too (pun definitely intended there)!

Wait! I LOVE bread too! But the so called lite ones are like eating AIR (40 calories a slice ones I'm talking about). My home made bread is deadly, but goooooood!

Add some real butter and I'm on my honeymoon!

FYI: Mama Melrose at MGM has an appetizer that it's JUST a BIG plate of bread with different spreads....I was DEAD I tell you!

And #5 anything Paula Deen makes! Darn that woman!

My biggest pit falls are.......

1. Food
2. FOOD
3. FOOD

I think that about sums it up!

Posting my top 3 pitfalls here! (In no particular order)

1. Ice cream - particularly Cold Stone Creamery (that cake batter ice cream they serve - :faint: ) and Baskin Robbins

2. cookies, cake, pastries - basically sweet baked goods

3. cheese! - on just about anything, but especially, pizza, potatoes, and Mexican food. (Fortunately I also like it on salads and with apples)

I should have 4 because chocolate is also huge! But it's a particular small place here in town that makes this Belgian chocolate that is WOW, just WOW!

But as Wendy said, you can make these things healthier:

1. Cake - how about a slice of Angel Food cake with fresh berries and fat free Cool Whip? Tastes yummy, and won't make you go into a sugar induced coma either

Try the whipped cream frozen - nice ice cream substitute. :thumbsup2 Portillo's (thank goodness there are none around here) makes this chocolate cake shake with the cake mushed up in the shake. DROOL! Well, I took some frozen fat free whipped cream and mushed up one of those WW chocolate cake snacks in it (after eating the icing layer), and it was pretty good!

My top three downfalls (i.e. if you want to torture me, pass these in front of my nose and tell me I can't have any!):

#3 Macaroni and Cheese, especially from Boston Market
#3b. Just about anything else of melty-cheesy goodness. My own personal Devil is shaped like a mozarella stick.
.

Anything cheesy is good to me - esp. creamy mac & cheese!

My weakest links would be

3. Homemade tollhouse cookies
.

These cookies are dangerous for me but sometimes they don't even make it to cookies - I like the dough!

Again, that cheese! Yum! And calamari!! Double yum!

Wait! I LOVE bread too! But the so called lite ones are like eating AIR (40 calories a slice ones I'm talking about). My home made bread is deadly, but goooooood!

Add some real butter and I'm on my honeymoon!

Homemade bread with REAL butter! That's the only kind of bread to eat.

3. cheese! - on just about anything, but especially, pizza, potatoes, and Mexican food. (Fortunately I also like it on salads and with apples)

!

There's that cheese again! Seems like many of us have the same pitfalls! I really shouldn't be reading this list right before lunch . . .

 I actually purposely put "carp" down instead of crap. Wasn't sure what gets censored around here. Trust me the anal, ocd in me hates mis-spellings! ;)

you were way ahead of me on that one!

That is AWESOME!!! I am so proud of you! That doesn't deserve just three banana mans, that deserves about 10 of them!

And one of these for good measure!

:cheer2:

hi, aaron!!! and thanks. it's good to "see" you!

and good luck to everyone on their thanksgiving goals. i'm not going to set one as of yet because i want to reach my goal weight within the next couple of weeks and then reevaluate!

Ok. You've got me beat. By about 3x. :worship:
My dream is to have a hugh walk-in closet. Just for my shoes. Like all the rich kids have on Cribs.

Thank you. I'm working on accepting compliments gracefully instead of making excuses for myself about how "I must have just been having a good day" or simply, "No, I'm not pretty. You're just saying that to be nice." This was a good little exercise. :goodvibes

the sad part is that i honestly only wear about 10 pairs of them on a regular basis! the rest sit there and collect dust.

my mom always told me that it's rude to not accept a compliment like a lady, so i try to do that as well. sometimes it's hard though!

good luck with the cake. no advice....just some luck!

(But no Willy Wonka...unless he's Johnny Depp-shaped.)

i absolutely  johnny depp as willy wonka!!!!!!! i could watch that movie 500 times and not be sick of it. MUMBLER!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl2:

Oh BTW, we saw a SHARK at the beach. It was literally right along the shore line. It wasn't a big one. It was about 4 or 5 feet long. I sure wish that music would play so that we would know that it was coming. :rolleyes1

 this is why i don't swim in the ocean! not gonna happen. i know you've probably already told us, but what beach were you at?

FYI: Mama Melrose at MGM has an appetizer that it's JUST a BIG plate of bread with different spreads....I was DEAD I tell you!

i'm looking forward to that big plate of carbohydrate goodness next april! :rolleyes1

my top three weaknesses:

3. southern cooking (with lots of butter and love) and sweet tea
2. my husband's cooking
1. mexican food

i can't really narrow it down to one thing in each category....it's just sort of an "all of the above" kinda thing. i'm not a big sweets person so that's never been a problem for me. if i'm craving sweets i just eat a brown cow junior popcsicle (100 calories!)
