My new hobby is sewing. I just re-taught myself after a 25 year break (since high school!)



OMG!! First i can't believe how Big Nora got. Second you rock at sewing I only can hand sew and i dont think I good even try to do any of that by hand. Every thing looks amazing. And thirdly the all look beautiful, clothes and children.
 
I said a couple of weeks ago my grandmama wasn't doing great. She did die on Sunday and so we had the funeral today. We said it was a long day as they tend to be but it was good. We had a good visit with family we don't get to see often. And knowing she had been doing well until recently and she slipped away peacefully makes it easy to know she's better off.

Mom was supposed to move to the nursing home from the hospital today, but they're keeping her one more night because she was acting loopy last night. It turns out they gave her vicodin for her pain, and it makes her nutty. I spent the day with her, then when my sister came at 5, DH and I went shopping for my classroom, then I took DD to Office Max for her school supplies. I squeezed in 1/2 hr. of exercise again, but the eating was semi-bad. I'm beat right now, so I'm hopping into the hot tub with DH, then off to bed.

Just had to give hugs to those in need. Back to work for me! Hopefully, I'll get to check in later.
 
First, the wedding pictures are absolutely beautiful. Congratulations on the new SIL.

Utahmama - The sewing pictures are adorable. Sewing is one of those things I wish I had more time for and don't seem to get to. Unfortunately, I keep buying patterns and materials and can't figure out why I have no where to put them. I am reading a book on simplying my life (I've read several over the years) and am determined to make enough small changes to find time to sew. And, 25 years out of high school? no way, you don't look like you've been out of school that long!

Books - After reading all the book suggestions I requested two from the library thinking they might trickle in - no, my husband came home today with two. Where I will find the time to read, I'm uncertain. I told my husband they were for the plane ride to disney as I understood I was sitting by a rather chatty fellow and needed the book to keep the guy quiet, lol.

Better get off the computer now . . one of my small changes . . .a little less computer time, more exercise!
 

Sandy, I went last September during free dining and the value resorts (or at least the bus lines) and restaurants were on the full side, but the parks were empty. Like, walk right onto Soarin' empty. I should take a pic of our video from Main St where I swear there are like 10 people.

Don't forget about all the offsite people you get in the summer that are likely not going to be around... I think that DIS gets all excited about free dining and it makes it seem like the parks will be crowded. Hopefully I am right! :laughing:

I called yesterday for our Sat night reservation (the 15th) and I had my pick of the mods, although no king rooms, and at the AP rate. I could choose any deluxe (didn't) or DVC studio at the AP rate, which is $160, so I did that. Right now we are at SSR because the CM screwed up, so I am going to call today and try to change it to OKW.

Ditto that. We went last year for free dining too- week after labor day actually when I thought it would be crowded with left over holiday travelers...nope. We had pretty much no waiting in lines, except for the busses which cant be helped I think. (especially for Pop, it seemed like all the other bus liens were short compared to ours for Pop) We did use TGM, so I am sure that is part of our luck. I was able to finally replace some of the ADRs I had wanted but hadnt gotten late last week, so I guess you can keep trying. I certainly didnt get the ones I had wanted originally but I got something workable. Had to change my plans around again though.
 
Not meaning to put a damper on the low crowds - but I've been the last day of free dining and beyond - that week has always been the start of Food and Wine as well - and its crowded.. this time Free dining ends a little earlier (except for those that got in on the program Lynda did!! Mostly it ends the 22 - that and the fact the resorts are full - it will be crowded that last weekend - maybe, just maybe the start of the week wont be too bad - but it will be crowded - plan on it, that way you wont be disappointed - I know I was so disappointed the first year we went for the Free dining end of Sept into Oct - it was wall to wall crowds and I compared those crowds to the July crowds - definately better at Disney than not - definately used FP and the FP lines were crowded and they did run out of FP for Soarin, TT, Splash and Space that year - the following year I thought I"d outsmart the masses and go a week early - well Disney heard of my plans and ended free dining a week early - it was mostly ok crowds - until that last weekend!! The masses descended on EPCOT for F&W and I wasnt going to be left behind - I love F&W - so again, as long as you plan and are prepared, it will be a GREAT time - but it will be HOT it will be HUMID, we will have a tropical storm that could develop into a hurricane - but it could be worse!! :rotfl:

Fellow Disney-obsessed-friends-with-a-few-pounds-to-lose, is it too late to join the (completely hilarious) party?

WELCOME!!!!!!! i'm agreeing with AnnNan on 4 of her 5 and adding my own #5 tip.....

1) Replace coke with water - except I have one almost every day, but I used to have probably 6 on a lot of days. I didn't like water but after drinking it pretty regularly I almost like it now and sometimes would choose instead of coke. i think this is the key for me. once i cut out everything but water as far as drinking the weight started dropping off. i allow myself 1-2 cups of coffee in the morning and i drink water the rest of the day. i use the crystal lite water bottle mixer packets if i get bored with water.

2) I really think weight training is so important. I feel good about building some muscle plus all those things like it is good for your bones, etc. i love weight training and i think it with a mix of cardio is the key. think of your workout time as your "me" time to think about nothing else but making yourself feel better!

3) Make little changes that you can live with forever not big sweeping changes all at once that you're going to struggle against and then quit. ditto.

5) Treat yourself sometimes! You can't and shouldn't give up everything you enjoy eating forever. i allow myself one cheat day a week. that doesn't mean i go crazy and eat everything in sight - that means i allow myself to eat a few things i normally wouldn't and i don't require myself to keep up with what i've eaten on this day. also, my cheat day usually includes a margarita or a glass of wine. ;)

here's my number 5: count your calories. i think it's melinda who gave me the formula that worked for me. take your goal weight (for me it's 130) and multiply that by 12 and that's the number of calories you should eat per day. that seemed to work well for me.

My latest is Alice for our breakfast at 1900 Park Fare (those are the new Mary Jane style CROCS called "Alice" with one jibbit hole. She never takes them off. Perfect for church too!

this is becca. becca's the bachelorette. we had becca's bachelorette party in helen, georgia, which is a small little touristy town in the mountains modeled after the swiss alps. there's a nice little creek that runs through the middle of town near where we parked. on the way to the car when leaving the club becca disappeared. we found her in the nice little creek. seems becca decided she wanted to take a swim after her night of dancing......

I'm with you too...I will be gone by the time it starts so I am hopeful it will be ok when we are there.

OK INCREDIBLE! How quickly you got all that done! You truly have staying power.

GO and scratch out my challengs what a mess! Got sick on Sunday and yup naturally now still sick and now went from cold to pneumonia in 4 days wow I don't mess around. I should be so proactive about helathy living!

Sandy give me 3 days and I will be up and and on the go again!

Well I guess one old bad habit will have to go, and I am terrifed to quit for fear of getting even bigger if thats possible.....smoking!


BTW The meds are killing me ! SOmeone pass me a poooh muffin!

Sorry I have been so seemingly neglectful of my peeps. I just can't get up early enough to respond the way I'd like to your posts! I have to be in the shower by 7am to get everything done and kids off to school.

This morning I have to take DD13 to the orthopedist again. She may have something broken....let's hope not. She says she caught her pinkie finger on the railing coming down the stairs and there was a crack. The side of her right hand is swollen and she's been having some pain for the last 4 or 5 days. (Momma don't rush nobody to the doctor unless there's blood, vomit, or a bone sticking out.) Anyway a docto's visit oughtta answer some questions.

Top 5 (ok 6!)weight loss tips.....


EAT BREAKFAST...Always eat breakfast! It jump starts your metabolism. Eat healthy snacks between meals like almonds, fruit, raw veggies. They keep the hunger away.

REMOVE THE TEMPTATION....Get your binge foods OUT OF THE HOUSE! I no longer buy Cheez-Its, Cheetos, chips or cookies. They are not good for me AND they are not good for my family. Fill up the fridge and pantry with delicious HEALTHY options!

DRINK WATER
...and water only. Stay far away from the sugary drinks.

EXERCISE....Even if you start by walking around your own house...you must exercise somehow. You don't have to start off running a mile...just get moving.

ADD FIBER....Fiber fills you up and keeps you moving. KWIM. I eat a serving of Fiber One every day. It's not so great alone so I add a half serving of some cereal I like on top. I also add some flax seed meal....4 g of fiber and lots of health benefits. Try to work up to 25 or 30 g of fiber per day.

COUNT CALORIES
....Punkin's right...the formula is 12 calories per pound X your goal weight. You have to practice to be the weight you want by eating that amount of food. READ THIS.

TREAT YOURSELF....I like chocolate so I have a mini Heath bar or a Dove Dark Chocolate when I feel a craving coming on....usually at night.

..ok so if this post is TMI..i completely apologize, but i just really wanted to share this health issue here in hopes that someone has some insight on it, and you are all such wonderful advice givers!
Ok..for the past week or so I have been having on and off horrible cramping pains in my lower abdominal region...followed by more gas than usual ( nice huh? hahah)..and painful pooh: here and there. I have been eating a ton of fiber and drinking alot of water to HOPEFULLY go along with it, so i have no idea what is going on. Is it possible that i am not drinking as much water as i should..i do at least 64 oz a day, sometimes 80-90?? I of course had to look up " bowel obstruction" on the net and got all scared when they started mentioning lesions, tumors..yada yada..because i have a past of pre-cancerous cells in my cervix ( i have another apt. in sept to get the good old "lady test" and see if they are back)..i feel like i am more at risk for those types of things in that area...ugh. i hate worrying about stuff like this.
Is there any way this ISN'T something serious???
THanks soooo much for reading...i would love any responses you have :grouphug:
