Thought I'd let you know a bit about me, I've added a photo (don't know how to make it smaller!) of my family at my step-sisters wedding my DD's were Bridesmaids. (it must have been windy as my hairs a right mess!)

Well My name obviously is Jo and I'm 33 years old but only for a few more weeks! I live in the South East of England only about 1 hour from London, I'm originally from Suffolk a place called Lowestoft which is the most Easterly point of the whole of England, there is a sign and everything. :rotfl2: I have been married to my DH David for 11 1/2 years and we've been together since we were 16, awwwh, we met in a very romantic place - on the golf course! He is a golf pro so it is the only place to meet him. We moved down south for money and DH works very hard and unsociable hours teaching people golf to allow me to stay at home to look after DD Jessica 10 and DD Ellie 8. I am now totally addicted to the DIS but before that took over I enjoyed walking, gardening, reading, holidays (WDW of course, although Lapland was great too) and getting back into golf after a back injury. Like everyone else I am a great taxi service, cleaner, cook etc and wish I had the social life my 86yr old Nan does. :rotfl2:

Weight wise, I go more on dress size which over here is a 14/16 but I love the US sizing as I become a 10/12  I have just bought 2 great US golf skorts in a size 10 and I will make sure the label sticks out. :rotfl: My meals are normally OK it's the inbetween that lets me down! Especially Cadburys dairy milk and Haggen Daz strawberry shortcake - yum. My goal is to be a nice loose 14 (10) any less and my hip bones just won't fit in!

See you all later and don't write too much whilst (Melinda I'm saying whilst!!!!) I'm asleep. :rotfl2:

What a beautiful family Jo! Good night! We'll try to slow things down whilst :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: you slumber!

Hi Jo!!!!!!!! Wonderful family photo!

He's quite supportive. He asked me last Friday night when he got home from work how weigh in day went. And he is very proud of me. :goodvibes

Lynda - How have your other discussions gone? Last time I heard, not so well. Has DH changed his mind or at least opened his mind to the possibility of kids? I know that is hard for you. That is great that he cooks for you. I cook and my DH will clean up for me. I cook about the way that your DH does. When I make chicken fingers, there is flour EVERYWHERE! I am telling ya' messy is a genetic defect I got from my mom! :rotfl: :rotfl:

My favorite snacks:

WW lemon and carrot cake snack cakes
baby carrots with Just 2 Good ranch dressing (It's low fat)
FF Chocolate pudding
Snack size bag of 94% FF popcorn
Yoplait Light Key Lime Pie & Lemon Meringue Pie yogurt (Yummy!)
Caramel rice cakes by Quaker (small ones)

Oh how I love this place every one is so complimentary, Brits just don't do that so a big :grouphug: and thankyou.

How could I forget about the pudding cups (I love those exact same flavors!) & pickles!

And how are those WW oreo ice cream bars? I love the sherbert/ice cream pops, but haven't tried any of those chocolatey ice cream ones yet.

My DH and I both love the WW oreo bars, and trust me, he doesn't need to eat diet food and most of the time hates any of the low cal/low fat foods I buy for me, but strangely enough he keeps eating my oreo ice cream bars and my SF puddings :rotfl: !!

Jo,

What time is it over there? My DH would love to go to London for a "holiday" (that's what y'all call a vacation right? ;) ) He wanted to go during our Fall Break this year, but we decided to go to DW instead. :thumbsup2 He just wasn't ready to fly 8 hrs. with DD (who can be a whiney hiney;) who had never been on a plane. Didn't think 8 hrs. trapped in a flying tin can would be the way to introduce her to flying. ;) :rotfl: Maybe someday we will make it over there. He wants to stand on the Prime meridian and have his picture made. :)

They live in Texas (about 10 hours a way), but I've spent time with them almost every month since the 10 year old was born. It isn't always easy, but it sure is worth the effort!!!

Where abouts in Texas? I live near Fort Worth.

I was up all night with heartburn from the 6 brownies with frosting. I may have slept 2 or 3 hours, I can't remember. No pepto or tums because it was DH's turn to go to the store and he couldn't because of his back. So I laid there in bed with my chest burning and thinking, why, why, why did I do this to myself? :sad2:

Helpful kitchen chemistry lesson for the day... if you are ever having massive heartburn and no OTC meds, get a spoonful of BAKING SODA and mix it with a little water and drink it. The baking soda/stomach acid reaction is very similar to the baking soda/vinegar reaction so be prepared to BURP. Additionally, this type of chemical reaction is endothermic (feels cold to the touch) so it will also have a slight cooling effect.

If on old movies you ever hear someone referring to a "bicarb"... this is what they are talking about... bicarbonate of soda = baking soda.

I did mention I'm a high school science teacher, right? :teacher:

Please post your top 5 favorite 'good for you' snacks!

No particular order:
1. Hummus with veggies and/or a pita that I cut up and bake into chips.
2. Cheese (precut into portions) and/or boiled eggs I keep in the fridge.
3. Vanilla Dannon Carb Control Yogurt with a few pecans sprinkled on top.
4. Fruits/veggies I've got prewashed/precut.
5. Pink Lady apple with a little peanut butter.

Here is hint someone told me...

I love hot food!
If you like chips and salsa ---- use celery instead of chips then you dont det the calories but you get the CRUNCH!!!

Ohhhh, I love Ro-Tel... I'll try that! I've also been spicing my food up to keep things from being bland or boring... don't miss the fat if I'm noticing the fire. :yay:

Jo!!! I'm so used to seeing you in your avatar picture. You look so much cuter when you are more life sized! What a beautiful family! Your girls are gorgeous, and Ellie looks just like you right down to the dimples. ;)

Thanks for the bio. Now, step away from the Cadbury's! Just get it out of the house and you'll be all set. And went for a walk today? You are already a peep!

No posting whilst Jo is asleep, everyone! :rolleyes1

(I'm not optimistic about that one, Jo.) ;)

It's coming up to 10pm here. FYI my DD's are great on planes, we did Florida (9hrs) when youngest DD was 7 and when she was 6 & 5 we went to St Lucia which was 8 hours. As long as they could watch movies they were great. Hope that helps, England is a great place to visit although we spend our hols visiting America, as you say, go figure. :rotfl2: BTW haven't got a clue what the Prime Meridian is.

Lynda - you are sooooo lucky to have a DH that cooks for you! I would scrub the kitchen down any night to have that luxury!!! The most my DBF can accomplish is Hamburger Helper! :sad2: (and by the way, I love your name - my Mama's name was Linda. You do know it means "Beautiful"! My dad's name was Ken which means "Handsom" - they always said that was why they had such pretty babies :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: )

Jo - that is so cool that your DH is a pro golfer...my DBF would be sooo jealous! He is an avid golfer, but not good enough to go pro (although he dreams big!)

My Mom visited London many years ago and loved it! I have been to South America many times for work (Brazil, Argentina, & Chile), but have never crossed the Atlantic your way. I hope to one day!

per wikipedia.....

The Prime Meridian, also known as the International Meridian or Greenwich Meridian, is the meridian (line of longitude) passing through the Royal Greenwich Observatory, Greenwich, England, United Kingdom — it is the meridian at which longitude is defined to be 0 degrees. The prime meridian, and the opposite 180th meridian (at 180° longitude), which the International Date Line generally follows, separate the Eastern and Western Hemispheres.

No posting whilst Jo is asleep, everyone! :rolleyes1
Now I must really turn this machine off, DH has just got home from work and can't believe I've posted a pic of him on here. :rotfl2: I'd better go and be a good wife and make him a cup of tea he only left here for work at 8am and now it's 10pm and what have I done? Well in between DISing I have cleaned the house. :rotfl2:

Night Night.

Miss Smarty Pants, I'm actually not far from Greenwich so obviously I'm very undereducated. :rotfl2:

The Prime Meridian is in Greenwich. That is where all time starts. Everyone's time zone is based on how far it is away from the Prime Meridian.

DH is really into time, can you tell? :rotfl: If we decide to go, would you be able to give me some pointers? It was so hard to pick out hotels, when you don't know which part of town to stay in. The room descriptions are very different than over here. :sad2: We wanted a suite, where the kids had their own room, and I never could find that over there. :confused3 So we ended up at Disney! Not a bad trade off. :cool1:

Oh I forgot to say :welcome: to our party:

Oh how I LOVE cadburys chocolate!!!!!!!!!! Isn't it sad that that's the one thing that stuck out to me?:) I'm a bit of an anglophile (not sure if that's the right word, hopefully it's not something dreadfull!) and my goal has been to go to England. I watch bbcamerica all the time & love british movies. Maybe I'll be your "groupie"!:rotfl2:

Mygirlsof2,

So sorry about your DH! :sad2: Hope his back gets better. I agree with winkers, it isn't wrong to worry about your trip. That is your job as the wife. ;) Look at the bright side, if he ends up getting a scooter, you will get to move straight to the front of the line! ;) :thumbsup2

Keep us posted!

Yes, you will move to the front of the line! I sprained my ankle on our trip in November, and was in a wheelchair (for an undisclosed amount of time - TR in progress ;)). The line advantages were nice. Scooters are probably better than wheelchairs though. DH's hands got tired pushing me around.

Lynda - How have your other discussions gone? Last time I heard, not so well. Has DH changed his mind or at least opened his mind to the possibility of kids? I know that is hard for you. Caramel rice cakes by Quaker (small ones)

Last talk we had, he said he didn't know if he would ever change his mind, but that he would put thought & consideration into it & that we could talk about it often. He sounded much more open to it than during our first conversation, but still pretty far from saying he was up for it. I have decided that right now, I need to work on me (which will filter into our relationship as well). I am putting a lot of energy right now into this lifestyle change, trying to get the photography business up and running, & I will be doing the actual paying of the bills, which I used to do, but somehow that changed when we moved into our house. That way I have a better grasp on what is available and how our savings is coming along. I have a hard time keeping track otherwise because DH's being a finance manager at a car dealership, his pay varies. We are also still working on the puppy's training. I want to get all of these things in order. I feel like a year from now, if I can accomplish all that, it may help DH to see that we can handle larger responsibilities, & I will be a much less stressed & absent-minded person. I know that there are lots of sacrifices to be made when you have children, but I truly think DH overestimates what those sacrifices would be, so that is something that I want to discuss with him over the next few months while showing him that BIG things can be accomplished with small sacrifices (by comparison to what the reward is worth). It's hard to explain, so I hope that makes sense.

Yes, I am VERY lucky. :) And I have never been thrilled with my name, but I do know that it is Spanish and means beautiful. :goodvibes And I like that it is spelled uniquely even though people mispell it all the time. :) It has grown on me over the years, I guess.

Ya'll listen to Dr Dene now...she knows her stuff!

And when you go looking for recipes, make sure you type in sparkSpeople.com - don't forget that second s or you get a weird page :confused3

Thanks!

Let me tell you what happened to me last night and how I coped so that you can NOT do the same thing...

So, I did what any good overweight emotional eater would do, I finished off the 6 brownies with frosting that remained.

Ok, fast forward to bedtime. I made it through the meeting, cleaning up, finished up all of my tasks, and went to bed at a reasonable time (although I did not get to do any of my packing or other vacation-related things). :sad2:

So, long story short (Too Late!), if you get tempted to eat anything you shouldn't today out of frustration or emotion or whatever - DON'T! Think of my heartburn and lack of sleep and how it just made things much worse for me and how I am still paying for it! The brownies were not even that good! :guilty: :guilty: :guilty:

Have a skinnie minnie day everyone!

P.S. - If anyone out there is saying prayers today, please think of our family and pray that DH's back is better for our trip - we really need this trip and leave in 4 days!

Oh no! First, I hope your DH feels well enough for your trip. My mom, niece, nephew, and I are leaving on Friday so we'll be there around the same time. But our trip is just a shorty - coming back home on Sunday. Anywho, :shamrock: and pixiedust: and prayers that everything works out for you! And thanks for the memo on the emotional eating. I should have read it before coming home since I ended up purchasing some chocolate to make all the stress I'm feeling go away. Guess what? I ate it and the stressful feeling that I had? Even bigger now.

:welcome: Shannon!! This group is an awesome support mechanism :grouphug: , so you came to the right place!! I'm also 26 and a grad student working full-time, so I know how hard it can be to cram exercise into your free time . . . But we have some amazing peeps here who have families, work and did I mention taking care of husbands, kids, houses, etc. ?? They have lots of great ideas on how to add exercise and healthy eating into every situation.

What cruise line are you going on? You'll have such a blast!! My DH and I went on our first Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon and it was the best vacation ever . . . Well except for WDW, but u just can't compare the exhausting must do everything magic of WDW with a relaxing cruise where you just step off your boat and onto a tropical island :cloud9: !! Well, the exorbitant amounts of food might compare to my Disney vacays, but that's what cruise ships have gyms for :rolleyes1 !! I would follow up every WDW vacation with a relaxing cruise if I could . . . Now if Disney would just lower the prices of the land/sea vacations!!!

Everytime I come here I love it more and more! What are you in grad school for? I'm cruising with Celebrity on the Century with ports of call at Key West and Grand Cayman. A 5-nighter. It's a mom-daughter trip and both of our first cruises. I'm VERY excited about it! And I'll be even more excited about it if I could drop a few sizes by then. I know what you mean about the Disney Cruise! My DB and DSIL want to do the Disney Cruise with their kids (and I can tag along) but it's so much! It's the closest thing they will come to Disney which is why my mom and I always have to take their kiddos to WDW. Works for me!

oh and can I get a Wooo-hooty for finally figuring out how to multi-post? Yay me!
*Shannon

I really need some support because the weight just isn't coming off on my own!:grouphug:

What's worked for me in the past is South Beach Diet...3 years ago, I lost about 16 lbs., which brought me to a size 14. Not great, but when you've been straining at your 16s, it felt wonderful! Little by little, but esp. in the past year (which has had multiple stresses inc. 2 family deaths), it's come back on and maybe even a couple pounds more. My 16s are feeling snug again.

The thing I still have a problem with mentally is that I was always a thin, thin child and teenager. Until my late 20s, I was still a size 8-10, which actually was better for me than when I'd--unbelievably!--looked too thin as a 4-6. When I hit 30, a few extra pounds came on each year and I didn't really mind because I thought I'd lose them easily. Seeing myself as a "skinny" person, I just didn't take it seriously. Then, along came DS and a move from the Northeast (Philadelphia) to the South (Kentucky) where DH has loads of extended family---meaning family gatherings around lotsa food---often! I was shocked when I passed 160 lbs. and now would love to be there (about 16 pounds away). Once I reach THAT goal, I'd like to try to be a size 10-12 again. I'd be totally comfortable with that.

Two days ago, I thought I'd try SB again. Yet, I had a couple of minor cheats (2 tortilla chips and, my weakness, about 15 dark chocolate chocolate chips.) Today, I found my self falling off the wagon about 4-5 times (inc. way too many almonds, I guess since they're an "allowed" food!). I've come to the realization that Phase One MEANS Phase One with no cheats.

We've got a WDW trip coming up in May and I'd really, really like to lose at least 15 lbs. by then. Dare I admit we're trying the DP for the first time, but hope that I'll be able to not gain too much there and get back to work once we 're home again.

So glad this thread was started!!!:goodvibes
