DIS Meet Dec 8 07

We purchased APs when we were at WDW in December. I keep looking at the calendar in hopes of squeezing the most out of those tickets. They weren't cheap. But, the DVC Member discount did help. So far this year, we have the April and September WDW trips already on the calendar. Our APs expire the first week in December. I am hoping we can make it to WDW in October or November too. November seems more likely when we would go, because of the Christmas decorations and to celebrate our Anniversary. We priced flights from Dallas to Orlando. The prices are ridiculous. So, we decided to drive in April and September.

We were hoping to fly to Boston this summer to visit family. But, may have to drive because those flights were even more ridiculous than Orlando. I understand the fuel costs have made the price go up. But, Bill told me with his recent business trips he flew AA and said the service was terrible, no snack (NOT EVEN PRETZELS) and good luck getting more than one drink or even one at all. That is a shame. :sad2:

DH is also having upheaval at work as was reported in the news this morning. I haven't decided if this is a good thing or a bad thing yet. Worst case scenario, we make a tidy profit on the stock we still have and he receives a wonderful severance package. To be honest, I'm not sure "worst case" and "best case" aren't the same thing. I wouldn't enjoy the uncertainty of new job prospects, but as it is, I don't enjoy DH always being stressed!

Hope everyone has a relaxed weekend!

I am always out of the loop on current news. Watching the news is always depressing. I usually get my news when I log onto the computer and MSN pops up. Where does/did your husband work? I am sure if he was stressed all the time, this may be a blessing in disguise. We wish you both well. :flower3:

Hey guys,

Popping in to say hi. Things have been crazy around here. We just recently received a credit card in the mail that was forwarded from our old address which we haven't lived at for almost a year. The card was one that, of course, we'd never applied for. So it seems DH has been the victim of some sort of identity theft. He's been checking all our online accounts and has found one other where the contact email address had been changed, but yet the password on the account hadn't. So now he's changed passwords on everything.

The kicker in all of this is that we actually subscribe to a credit monitoring agency and they didn't catch any of this. We received no report that someone had applied for credit with his number. Moral of the story - be vigilent! No one really cares about your identity except you and the guy trying to scam it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ANDY!! :lmao: :lmao:

Hi, Julie!

I was thinking about your DH this morning when I saw the news. I'm sure everything will work out fine for you! Keep us posted.

My DS was a victim of identity theft about two years ago. Within two days, his entire bank account was wiped out, and he's still trying to get things straightened out. It's a good thing you caught this so early!

Stacy: Did I forget to wish you a Happy Birthday? I'm getting very forgetful these days, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

He works at Yahoo! :headache: While the jump in stock price is great, we'd be foolish not to expect huge cuts in the Yahoo workforce if this goes through. So, we're just waiting to see what happens. :rolleyes1

Be sure to keep your eyes open for free Dining Plan in Sept. That would help pay for those APs also! I think I read that whether this will be offered will be announced in April. With DVC you need to call before you go and have it added.

I hope the weather is better there than it is here! It's like a monsoon tonight.

Hope everything works out for DH. I hope you gave that credit monitoring company a piece of your mind. Seems like they at least owe you a refund. Does their service also cover any fraudulent charges if they fail to keep their end of the bargain?

That's one of the great things about being in Europe, the flights are so cheap! I decided not to do the Berlin shore excursion on our cruise in June. We can fly to Berlin from Brussels for 59 Euro r/t!

Wow! So you can get the free dining even if you are staying at a DVC resort?? That is awesome!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they offer it when we are there before the member cruise.

It actually looks like a beautiful day here today. We've got a basketball game this morning, and then Jas has a friend coming over for a sleepover.

Have a great weekend everyone!
Wendy

Yes, DVC you can get the Dining Plan. Pay for it during the times they charge and free when it is free. And, you do not have to have a pass to the park like you do at the other resorts. You just have to tell Member Services to add it before you go on your trip. You cannot add it at check-in for some reason. :confused3 You do have to have it for the length of the stay and for everyone on the reservation.

Best of luck to your husband. We've been going through huge changes at Motorola too, not sure if you all have heard, but we're "investigating exiting the handset business". That means no more cell phones, which is 50+% of the business. I'm in corporate, but started in cell phones just over 10 years ago. Just before the cruise in December, my manager, and three engineers that I work with were laid off. Just a couple of days before Thanksgiving, in fact. So I don't know what's in my future, but I honestly think that a nice severance package might be a good thing... things have been very hard and stressful at Motorola for over a year now.

I'm not sure what to think about MS buying Yahoo, it could be very good, it could be very bad, or it could just stay the same. It's such a large acquisition that I think it will take a long time before any major changes are felt. Good luck!

Wow, that's good to know. I was just online looking at new cell phones for Jasmine last night. I left her RAZR on the ship, and so she's been using an old phone I bought before she was born, in the meantime!

Some of my friends who've gotten out of the AF work for Dell and HP, and I can't believe how stressful their jobs are. I won't burn any bridges, but when I retire from the military I don't plan on going into commercial IT.

I'm sure everything will work out for the best in the end, but hopefully it won't be too chaotic in the meantime.

You know, I've read this post and the ones from Julie about Yahoo and Mirosoft, and I've been thinking--I don't make a lot of money working for the municipal government, although I get great benefits, but I never have to worry about them selling out or going out of business! My job is civil service, so even if the administration changes (which it hasn't since 1993), my job is secure. In less than five years, I'll be able to retire with full benefits. Of course, I won't be able to AFFORD retirement, but I could change jobs at that point if I wanted to and not lose anything.

I wish everyone whose company or job is going through changes the best of luck!

Seeeee...... this is EXACTLY why I want to work for Disney!!!! All of this talk about people's companies, (mine included) is scary. I know in my company, (I can't remember if I told anyone but I work for Shelter Insurance) changes occur more and more frequently. To the point where they were/are getting ready to lay off a large percentage of our administrative assistants. At least with Disney it's not 100% safe, but I don't know of too many companies that could afford to just buy out Disney. Except Microsoft I guess. But why would they want to?? :confused3

Don't ask questions that you really don't want answers to!:rotfl2: Don't put ideas in Microsoft's corporate brain.

Disney is working pretty well right now--hopefully someday we'll be co-workers. At least once I can retire without losing anything. Jim's already retired from his first "career" and has been working for a few years now just because he's too young to stay home and be retired. He was "stay at home Grandpa" for our granddaughter when she was very little and both of her parents worked full time. When my DDIL stopped working, his services weren't needed as often, and he was driving all of us crazy, so we made him go back to work;). He's much happier now, and so am I, because we can afford to take our vacations again.
