Hi Ladies. Sorry I haven't posted for a few days. I've been dragging a bit after last Friday's chemo. Not feeling too bad, just no energy. I am very excited today because my daughter and all her friends will be home from college for Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for all of the new friends I have found on this thread. I'm kind of sorry I spent so much time lurking before I actually posted!

LMP - You are always a source of strength to me. No matter what you're going through, you stay positive.

Snappy - You're a dependable friend to all.

Sha - You give wonderful support to your Mom and everyone here.

honugirl - I love hearing about your trips. A nice diversion!

I agree with the idea we should all meet up at WDW when we're feeling better. I'll be the first one there!

Good afternoon ladies

So I am back from the surgeon. Well of course dh gets the last parking space. He runs into the bakery and buys like a 2lb. cookie tray that is $24.99. I have the note and it says: Dear Dr, R., I know I told you thank you in the ICU for saving my life, but once is not enough. Because of you I am here to celebrate Thanksgiving, ny husband has a wife and my boys have a mom. I know you will always remember me and that I was your first operation at X X Hosp. With gratitude etc. etc. I enclosed a picture of the family.
He then proceeds to tell us the schedule was wrong and he only does this test with the speech pathologist. O.K. I already paid the $30 co pay. He says, wel you can go and take your cookies back, um, I think to myself I paid $30 and all I get is a hello, sorry and good bye, He said he could do the scope just to see. So dh and I talked and I said do the scope anyway I will feel better. He did and had a resident watch, but not letting him touch the scope, o.k. visions of Lisa and the residents scoping her passing through my head. He says all the stuff looks great. Cant see any major vocal cord damage. Hears my voice. Says no nerve test with the needles or no Foam operation. So in Jan. I will go back for the right test and maybe he can find out what could be wrong. He is thinking its just weak muscles from the surgery and I might have to go to speech therapy. Oh fun. Of course, my ins. only pays for the crappy places. He also said he had the flu last week.

Oh and my house is swimming in cookie dough right now, thanks ds. He even cooked some, So my feezer is packed and I need to get ice cream etc. for thanksgiving. No room. The next test will involve the scopea gain and flashing some lights and recording it and looking at the nerve results?

Glad for the good news on the left side. so are you through with doctors until after your trip?

Wow I would be afraid ver afraid if my DS cooked anything. Even DD19 is a bit limited with her cooking repertoire.

tonight we are expecting DD19, her boyfriend and is hamster. We will have to keep it far away from Snappy and Naj. Should be interesting. I have not heard from DS21 but to be expected since he has not replaced his wet cell phone yet! My brother Tom will arrive on Thursday!

Maureen - Happy Thanksgiving to you too! and to add to my thankfulness about the sistas....I am thankful for my other B12 sister - You!! and I am thankful that I get to have my B12 shots in my arm!! And its nice to see how thoughtful and caring you are for your dad.

Ds18 just mailed his college application to his lst choice, the local state university. He is doing health sciences-undeclared major. I sure hope he gets in. He has a great gpa, but horrible sat scores, they dont really look at the act around here. I hope he gets in. He sent a great teacher recommendation and his college essay was about his cpr experience with the guy. He wants to do some health care major with a minor in adaptive water stuff. He saw it and said it was perfect for him, combines stuff like lifeguarding and physical therapy. You have to get permisssion to even do that program so it will be in the sophmore year if he gets accepted.Hmm, 15 days and counting for me, sonner for Elizabeth.

Maryann, I am sorry they didn't have the staff they needed to do your test properly! It does sound like there are some positives, though!
I am sure you will have a magical trip! Sorry we will not be overlapping days this time.

I am trying to clean while I am off this week. I HATE cleaning. I need a housekeeper. But then I would think "We could use that money for WDW." I can't win.

DS has some "research plan" he is supposed to write, PLUS a research paper to go with his science project. Blah! He should probably also be researching for his History Day project. I am not a fan of projects, especially projects that are due at the same time so it all runs concurrently! DS is not a fan of academics, period. So I have to HOUND him.

The Arts magnet was on TV last night and the school is breathtaking. They had a multi-million $$ renovation and it is STUNNING. He barely glanced at the TV. This child wears me out. I am buying him tickets to several musicals for Christmas - Phantom, Wicked, Color Purple, and my bosses are buying him a ticket to Rain (Beatles tribute). I am hoping that touring the school and seeing more professional productions will boost his interest.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too! I am still trying to get back to Texas. We lived there for about 4 years. I miss corn dogs, squash casserolle, Barbeque,Big Tex etc. We lived right off of I35 in south Dallas. Have a great time.

Oh yes ladies, and just when I thought things were going pretty well, ds19 tells me he got 4, yup count them 4 tickets last night. He said a police officer pulled him over on campus and since its a state school its the state laws, he went through 2 stop signs and was speeding taking a freind back to his dorm?? O.K. so I think its 9 points and over $700. You loose your liscense here for 11 I think, so he also needs to get the car inspected which I told him countless times to do and then he also will have to take a defensive driving class which is 6 hours 1 day or 3 over 2 days, that is usually like $40. He could go to dh work or the library depending on his schedule for that. I dont know how many points they take off for that. . Oh and his other court case for his illegal lights got postponed to May. Hmm, I gues I am thankful my ds can still drive at this point or I dont know what would happen etc. O.k. everyone get back to your turkey day prep.

I am very thankful for this great group of people we have here that we've come to know and love even though most of us have never met in person! It is so nice to know that we have eachother any time we need support.

I have so many things to be grateful for this Thanksgiving. Spending the day with my family - and now with our 8 month old granddaughter with us - will be more than I could ever ask for.

No word on which surgery I'm having yet. Swedish hospital in Seattle didn't send out my MRI films like they were supposed to, so I flew to LA for nothing basically (well, not nothing, I mean, I did go to Disneyland, but I digress...) So the waiting over the holidays is killing me.

Lisa - Welcome back!! Sorry about the mix up. I just had that with my latest test, again. So how was your Disneyland trip, tell, tell us girl!! Hope you get the answers about your surgery soon.

The holiday went o.k. I am just so thankful I am here to celebrate it. At church. I actually said something. I never do that, not that I am not thankful, I always have stage fright. You just stand up, but I sat down and talked into the mic. Ds18 was obsessing about cooking sweet potatoes. They turned out well, mine was sans marshamallows, yuck!! Didnt really do any shopping, but dh and I did get new cellphones. I love mine but ds18 has to show me how to work it. He picked it out. Its blue, my favorite color. It is touch screen and full keyboard inside, awesome. The toys r us next to the phone store went out of businesss. I said where have I been, when did that happen etc? Dh says - you have been having cancer all year etc! Ds19 is dealing with his tickets, apparently its 9 points, you lose your licence for 11, he is taking an online course for 4 points off, he can do that every 18 months. I dont know if thats for any additional points you get or to further reduce the ones you still have. I think the fines will be close to $1,000 and if our ins,. goes up I know dh will have a fit. I am sure it will but dont know how much. One of the co workders told ds18 her sons went up to $7,000, he had 10 points and they made her get him off her ins. Wow. I am wondering if that will happen to us too. I also told ds he is making an appt. today to get the car inspected and he must give us the date, time etc. Dh has about had it with him as I have too. When will this young adult grow up.?I love him but am not liking him these days for sure.
I made my appt. for the blood test friday, so now I will go to disney and come back and see if I have cancer again, but its just like last year, I will have a good time and put it out of my mind tilll I get back. So I guess I will ask the ds if the endo calls when I am gone, that would not be good I think.

I have a few minutes till the dinner is ready. Hope you are all o.k.

Tomm. I am going with dh to get my picture taken for the blood donor story. I think they will probably publish it when we are on vacation and speaking of vacations...dh big, big boss wanted him to go on a "retreat" for a week end to go over the project, and guess what week end it was, yup none other than the disney week end. He said Dr. so and so, I am sorry but my wife has been through hell this year and I am taking her on vacation. He said well just have the work done before you go and someone else can present it. I volunteered to help him type it since I can knock it out really fast and he can just edit it. I am so glad he is leaving this dept. Not to mention he would not even get paid for this since he is on salary I think. I am glad he has a job but they take such advantage of him. He said its an honor to be invited to this but still. These people come from cultures where family and wives are not held in any regard etc. so they seem to think dh has to conform to this mindset but he finally is speaking up. His new/old boss is more understanding. I hope he is still that way when dh finally transfers back there.

My stomach is killing me. I dont know why. Its on the R side now. Sun. I bent over and hurt the L side, boy did I scream my head off and 4 men in the house and no one even came to see how I was etc. They said later, oh I heard a loud noise, dh said. Ds 18 said, are you o.k., much later on. Men

I have been pouting about the crummy Orlando forecast. DH is trying to tell me I have no justification to gripe or be disappointed or upset. But you know what? This trip was expensive. We all forfeited Christmas for 3.5 days at WDW, and the weather is going to suck. So yes, I am whining about it! I KNOW there are lots of terrible things in this world and crappy weather on our trip is very minor. Fine, it's minor. BUT I am disappointed!

I think I am more angry at DH telling me my feelings are invalid than the fact that the weather is going to suck.

I hope you are all doing as well as you can. Keeping you in thoughts and prayers. I am packed, and will come home after work today before I head down to WDW. I am excited about my trip, but admit I am a bit anxious about the flight. Im glad I do not have to change planes though. Mom has neighbors checking on her and hopefully my sister will be up to see her on Saturday. Laura - remember once in a post you said that you must be the poster child for something, well guess what??? I am a poster child!! Yup, not only are thy taking dh and my picture for the publication newspaper they do each week and might post it on the web too, today they asked me if it was o.k. for them to make up posters to put around for the blood drive. Wow, I am floored!! Now dh bosses will not only have to look at him, but me too, even when we are in Disney

My side is killing me. I hope its just something pulled. I really dont want to go see the dr. I actually took tylenol, but it didnt do too much. I am going to try and rest as much as possible. I might call the dr to ask for more pain pills to take on the trip etc. Made an appt. for the b12 shot for friday and I asked them to have the dr. write me a mamo script. So I hope he does. The staff is not very follow through with stuff. I bet it wont be there. We will see. That wont get done till the new year with everything going on.

Sorry I have MIA but finally starting better last week and DH comes down with the sore throat, coughing, congestion, headache thingy the day after Thanksgiving. He is almost 100% now but not ready to get back in the full routine of working out, etc., and I am certainly not. I cannot shake the sore throat. Mostly I am worried about our older two kids taking exams this week and next, and our 14 Dd taking her exams the succeeding week. They really don't need this sickness crud.

Today was the day mom was to have her implant exchange and lift on the unaffected side. She was a bit upset last weekend (it is not something I want to elaborate on here) and decided to postpone the surgery. She is just not up to surgery right now. It was difficult helping her decide what to do as she felt awful about calling and cancelling with the doctor. My sister and I helped her with an informal script.

This time of year is not the ideal time for elective stuff anyway, so I think it best all round.

Maryann and Elizabeth, your trips must be right around the corner. I have lost track of the dates. You will love seeing the castle with the blue icicles. Be absolutely sure you see the Osborne lights at HS on a coolish night. We saw them the last evening of our trip and got some amazing pictures (at least for me), and I was very touched to the point of blubbering.

Sha, you must be off to Disneyland. I hope you have a lovely time.

Merry and Barbara will be off in January. We haven't heard from Merry in awhile, I sure hope all is well.

Sorry I have not posted the pictures yet from our trip. I will try to do some this weekend.

I was not able to work but a handful of hours last week due to being sick so this work week is proving brutal. I have also been very impatient with coworkers so I am trying to get a grip. I have been having not very Christ like emotions and I am not pleased with myself.

We have an unbelievable 60% chance of snow tomorrow night after midnight.
So has Christmas come? Un-oh we have no decorations out, no tree, etc (doggie likes to choose and chew on low hanging ornaments). In fact, the rest of the Halloween stuff is in a box in my bedroom.

I am considering just getting a live tree and having most of it cut off and putting it up on the island in the kitchen. What do you think?

You know these issues do not matter to me, we had such a glorious time with our kids last week, my brother from New York, and my sister and her husband last week. Our college two and DD19's boyfriend from England all came in as soon as they could leave the dorms and stayed until the last minute Sunday. It was heartwarming that we were all together. My house was a zoo, but I could not have cared less! DD19's boyfriend brought his adorable hamster, Mr. Nibbles, and we all had a blast playing with him (Snappy was curious, Naj wanted to "hunt" Mr. Nibbles).

Another high point was going to my sisters which is serene compared to my house. DS21 is Mr. Music so he always sits down and plays the piano and selects a guitar to play as soon as we arrive. DD19's boyfriend is also very musical and he settled into the same routine. This is only his second Thanksgiving as it is not celebrated in England of course, but it looked like he not only survived the Griswald type thanksgiving but enjoyed it. Lots of video games and movies too. DD19's boyfriend brought his DJ hero game which was um interesting. I am not a video game nut, but I like the Mario Wii games.

Last week kind of reminded me of our trip together to WDW last May. I thought it might be the end of an era, but I love that the older kids wanted to be together again for this holiday. We did eat out once, went to a movie all together, and had great meals at my sister's house twice. We saw the campy 2012 movie and made sarcastic comments throughout. I would not rush out to see it if I were you!

Quality time, and I am still reliving it but I am paying the price of being fatigued and playing catch up.

Hope our travelers here enjoy their journeys and share all the lovely details with us here when they return. In a way we go with you in spirit!

Hi everyone! I have been out of touch while I finished up my last two classes but am happy to report that I received my Masters Degree in Public Administration! YEA! It only took me three years because breast cancer came calling! HA! I am now seeking my PhD, hopefully I can teach at the college level, a dream of mine.

I hope you all have wonderful vacations...and Laurie I hope you and family are feeling better! We are headed out on a cruise over the holidays and I am counting the days. Can't wait to get some down time...reading, relaxing, etc. Its the first family vacation we have had (all five of us) since I was diagnosed. And my Dad is coming too, so I am happy.
