My Mum and Dad go to Disney at least twice a year and they are 79 and 82 years old, they have been insured with Nationwide on an annual travel insurance policy for the last 4 years, by chance they have found out Nationwide will not cover anyone over 79 years old starting from 1st JUNE 2004, as their policy only runs out on the 3rd August my Dad will no longer be covered by them.
First of all I think they should have contacted all their policy holders to inform them of this change, Dad has a holiday to the Grosvener hotel at WDW for 3 weeks in November and now has to find another travel insurance policy......Any suggestions, have tried the post office, Saga, Age concern, Rac, Columbus travel and the best quote so far is £256 for a single trip (he does not have any medical conditions)
Thanks

My mother (at 83) has just booked insurance for California from Amex = £96 I think. I think that Tesco do cover 'wrinklies' as well

Try moneysupermarket.com - they will get you a good rate. You just have to give them some info and they come back with 20 odd quotes.

Good luck - we will all be wrinklies one day!

Thanks for the replies
Moneysupermarket came up with just 2 company's (Barclaycard) at a cost of £215 and Eagle star at £100 both annual policies and American express were £158 ....all better than I had received elsewhere so thanks

Can't offer any help but just wanted to say that it is sad that alot of senior citizens are put off from travelling as they are penalized because of their age.
I know the risks are higher, but i think the risks are much higher for needing hospital treatment forsome of these lads and ladettes that go off for 2 weeks to drink themselves stupid.
Or the crazy people that pelt along on mopeds , not knowing how to steer them with next to no clothes on.
Oh dear I must be getting old!!
Rant over
Sorry:moped:

If you have read Kev's trip report you will note that my mother in law was unfortunate enough to be taken ill on holiday and rushed into hospital by the paramedics.

She is 79 and we got worldwide, single trip super plus insurance for £68.29 with Essential Travel Ltd. Their website only appears to quote for people up to age 74 now, but maybe it would be worth giving them a ring for a multi trip quote for your parents. She also had no prior medical conditions.

We should point out that we heard yesterday that all her claim (amounting to over £1000) is going to be paid apart from the telephone call back to the UK (to the emergency medical number) and obviously the £50 excess - so we have been very pleased with their service - no quibbles whatsoever.

Hope this helps

I'm not sure if I read it correctly, but if the policy is to August and he's not covered from June, that's 2 months he has paid for his and he's not getting!

I hope he's getting some of his money back. That really is disgusting.

I have been in touch with nationwide and given them a verbel blasting, the policy manager is looking into why my parents were not informed of the changes and has promised to respond, in the meantime I have contacted american express and mum and dad have taken out an annual policy with them for a total cost of £240........
they are now very happy again and looking towards another couple of visits to see their favourite mouse.
Thanks again

im sorry but im discusted in nationwide. thats terrible. sorry had to voice my oppinion.

Dont know if this will help, but my stepmum and dad are both pensioners and were flying to South Africa last year and were finding it really expensive to book insurance. In the end they went with Marks and Spencer and Dad said their prices were a lot cheaper than anybody else they had tried.

Hope this helps
