Dining reviews 11/25-12/6-Lots of pics, a little talk - Counter Service - The End!

Flying Fish -

We kinda feel like this is part of "home" for us. Since we stay at BWI and walk by this lovely establishment several times a day. This is a favorite of ours and I guess that explains why we ended up there twice this trip. I'm going to post visit #1 first. This was our first night dining alone without the kids as they had to fly home early to go back to school. I think I was missing them more than I'd realized because I hardly took any pictures.:guilty: No pics of the drinks but I've got receipts showing DH had a Margarita and I had a "Dirty" Gin Martini.;)

First of all I just love the decor, not a great pic but it will give you an idea if you haven't been there before:

For appetizers I ordered the signature "Jonah Lump Crab Cakes" with Savory Vegetable Slaw, Red Pepper Coulis and Ancho Chile Remoulade. This dish is always right on!!!!

DH ordered the Lobster Soup and Sandwich - Brandy Laced Lobster Bisque, Leeks, Sun-dried Tomatoes, Petite Lobster BLT. DH shared the Bisque with me and it was wonderful, however he wolfed down the BLT part before I could even ask how it was or get a good pic of it. He was rushing in order to be able to slip out of the restaurant between courses to run to ESPN and see if LSU was headed to the BCS Championship Game.:sad2: Gotta admit I was curious too.

Entrees - DH was disappointed the Scallop Dish was stamped "Fresh Out" on the menu so he decided to give my favorite dish a try. We both had the Potato Wrapped Snapper which was as amazing as I'd remembered....Heaven on a plate:

We got our desserts to go, both cheesecake, and ate them in the room watching ESPN, sorry no pics of dessert.(You really didn't expect pics of dessert in our room did you?)

As I said we just LOVE this place. We've never had any issues with service or food and that's why we ended up going again on our last night. That will be up next and it will be two new appetizers and two new entrees!!!!:goodvibes

Looks yummy! Great job, my friend! :thumbsup2

I'm a little disappointed about the drinks not being photographed, please do better next time...and dessert in the room, of course I would've like a pic...I'd like to see what the rooms look like at the boardwalk! :rotfl: ;)

Wow! That is nice! Great view! You know I was kidding right? Don't want to make an enemy of the only friend I have on the DIS!

Thanks for reminding me about the dirty martini. I'm going to go make one right now....

Great review of Flying Fish (even without the drink and dessert pics ;))

I can't see us ever visiting this restaurant as we are not great seafood or fish lovers but that snapper does look pretty good...

Thanks for the FF reveiw - it makes me all sad and hungry. ;)

You ordered a lot of the same things Jay and I did when we ate there in May and we were supposed to have a dinner-rewind in October but ended up canceling since Jay was sick. Those crab cakes are my absolute favorite ... yummy yummy yummy!!!

It hurts not to have dinner at Flying Fish ... :rotfl2:

There are other things on the menu, however to truly enjoy this place seafood is the way to go, however......stay tuned!

Brenda - I'm sorry, didn't mean to do all of this to you!:rotfl:

Fabulous reviews and pictures! I'm totally drooling over here. Can't wait for more. :)

Flying Fish (Part II)

There were a few things that led to us having another meal at FF. It was our last night and we wanted to stay in the BW area, we had originally planned on Big River Grille or ESPN Club. Every time we walked by, we'd stop and look at the menu and DH would just moan and say "Oh man, I wanted those scallops so bad".:rolleyes1 We were hungrier than usual because we had a horrific lunch at one of my favorite lunch spots.:sad2: So we tossed the idea around a bit and decided that we'd stop in when they opened to see if they could even seat us.  They told us as long as we didn't mind sitting at the bar to come back when we were ready. Are you kidding me, us mind sitting at a bar?

When we returned we were given a pager and told it would be about 20 minutes and were told we could wait in the BelleVue Lounge. I had no idea the pager's range went that far!! No sooner had I ordered my beloved Skyy Berry Martini our pager went off so I HAD to take a pretty big gulp of it, couldn't chance spilling any going down the stairs.;)

We were seated at the bar and Wade the bartender was our server. We actually enjoyed sitting here more than at a table as we were able to see what was going on in the kitchen too.:cool1: We decided to order all new dishes this time.

Ever since we ate at LeCellier last year we have loved that mussel dish and on this trip we decided to try them at other places this being one of them. I ordered the Crispy Sesame Calamari with Spiced Green Papaya and Asian Dipping sauce, this was the best Calamari we have ever had, not to much coating, very crispy and tender.....soooo good.

DH got the Chardonnay -steamed Penn Cove Mussels with Fennel, Chilies, Pesto Crema and Grilled Sourdough Crostini, these were excellent, but still not the best we had this trip...stay tuned.

Onto the entrees - DH was in luck, the Scallop dish was available. Oak Grilled Maine Diver Scallops with Pumpkin Risotto, Brown Clamshell Mushrooms, Crisp Sage and Serrano Ham Cracklins. He really enjoyed this but said the Cali Grill Scallops were the best of the trip. I thought the Pumpkin Risotto was really good.

I'd read here on the DIS about the Charred Steak at FF and as soon as I saw it being prepared I was all over it. I LOVE my steak charred on the outside and med rare on the inside. I went for it...The Signature Char-crusted Strip Steak with Roasted Fingerling Potatoes and Root Vegetables, Grilled Asparagus and Classic Sauce Foyot. This was the best steak I've ever had at Disney hands down.

No dessert as we were out of credits and paid OOP for this, we were stuffed to the gills anyway.

How do we rate FF? :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Will we return? You betcha!

Next up - LeCellier !!
