Dining reviews 11/25-12/6-Lots of pics, a little talk - Counter Service - The End!

My DH and I enjoyed a lovely Valentine's Day dinner at the Blue Zoo last year. We also had the flatbread and the shellfish platter. It was absolutely to die for. We would go back again if the opportunity arose (but with kids it can be difficult). Glad to hear you had such a wonderful dining experience.

Chefs De France - I really wish I hadn't been nosy and checked out the menu at Bistro earlier in the day - man oh man, that's one place that's going on my list for next time FOR SURE!!! Back to Chefs - This was our Candlelight Processional night and the place was packed. I've read some comments about the noise level here, maybe because we're from NOLA and are used to loud and rowdy, we had no problems at all, we could hear each other just fine!!:goodvibes

Our server, Yssa, was wonderful but the teens had a hard time with his thick french accent. He was very patient with them and had quite a few laughs with them and us as well. Let's get to the food. Appetizers, DH had the Classic French Onion Soup and I had the Escargots. We both LOVED these:

DS & GF at this point in our vacation were, can you believe this "missing Taco Bell".:scared1: I think they were having junk food withdrawals.:sad2: DS ordered the Lobster Bisque(again) and GF ordered the Tartare of Raw Salmon. They enjoyed these:

Onto the entrees, DH had the Sauteed Scallops and Black Tiger Shrimp with Spinach Flan. I had the Roasted Breast of Duck and Leg Confit, French Green Beans and Sweet Potato with Spicy Honey Sauce. We enjoyed them both:

DS ordered the Grilled Salmon served on a Potato Pancake with Red Pepper Sauce. GF ordered the Seared Tuna sliced and served with Shoestring Fries.
DS said his salmon was dry, GF said hers was OK. They both looked pretty good to us:

Onto desserts - This was the biggest disappointment, they were just OK at best, maybe we ordered the wrong things but I expected much better. DH & I both ordered the Strawberry Cake with Red Berry Sauce. DS ordered the Chocolate Tart with Berries & Coconut. GF ordered the Crepe filled with Cinnamon, Apple, Vanilla Ice Cream and Apple caramel Sauce.

Great job Kat! Those slusies are fabulous...I had the orange one but had a taste of the grey goose lemon...yummy! I think I am needing cocktail now! ;)

OMG your Grey Goose Slushies looked wonderful...What did it taste like (I know vodka, but what else?!) :thumbsup2

OOH! That Grey Goose Slushie looks SOO good! What did it taste like (I know vodka is in it, but whatelse?!)

NOW it shows up!!:rotfl2: I really don't know what else is in it but it was like a frozen lemonade. If you like lemony drinks there's also a cocktail in Italy - an Italian Margarita with lemoncello - it's also very good!!

I am so enjoying your report! I wish we had pictures from our trip! I am looking forward to your next installment!

Just now getting caught up Kathy.
Love all your reviews and pics. Jiko is another place I have yet to try. I have not tried Flying Fish and want to sooo bad. I can't wait to read your review on that.

Yum, yum to that Grey Goose Slushie.

How was the duck at Chefs Kathy? I mean, was it OK or was it lovely? Have you had the duck appetiser at Le Cellier and, if so, how does it compare? I just love duck and that looks lovely but did it taste as good as it looked :)

I am so going to be trying that Italian Margarita in April too - I love lemoncello :thumbsup2

I am so glad you're enjoying it, lot's more to come. My next one is going to be kinda short, I lost the receipts and I think we're missing some pics???

Welcome back Lisa!!!!! Glad you're here - we actually went to FF twice this trip!!!!!:cool1:

Joh - I haven't had the Duck at LeCellier, so I can't compare it to that. Let me say this I LOVE DUCK and if it's on the menu as an entree I'm all over it so I really had no option in my own mind. It was a very good, simple duck dish. The sauce didn't overwhelm the taste of the duck. It was cooked perfectly. I wouldn't say it was by any means the best duck I've ever had but it was done well. I'm probably not helping you much here, but if I had to choose between OK or lovely I'd probably lean to OK. Hope that helped some.:upsidedow

Wow Kathy! Great pics! That menu sure has changed since the last time we were there. It looks great!

The slushie looks especially good too! I see you tried the Italian Margherita. I'm glad you liked it, Lori described it as lemon freon! But I thought it was delish!

And oh yeah Tigers #1 National Champions!!!! Woohoo!! :cheer2:

We are so on the same page dining wise! Great reviews.

Blue Zoo baby.....:thumbsup2

We loved them!!!! GEAUX TIGERS !!!!

I tried them last visit, and they are deliciously addictive.

Yep, we had quite a few.:rotfl:

Wow great reports - made me put Blue Zoo back on my list for next trip. I just cant decide whether I want to go back to CG instead. Jiko is a definate for a return trip though!

So does that mean that the Kona chowder is not on the menu anymore?

thanks for all the work!

Thanks! Blue Zoo has certainly earned a spot on the very top of my list.:thumbsup2 We'll always keep CG on our list, you just can't get that view anywhere else.:cloud9:

Unfortunately the KONA chowder is history.:sad2:

Wolfgang Puck Cafe - This was our Cirque du Soleil night. My friends if you haven't seen La Nouba you should plan on doing so. DH was not a happy man when he found out the SEC championship game was the same night. Within minutes of the opening act of La Nouba he'd forgotten about football. This show is amazing, there's something to entertain every age group. The teens loved it too! OK on to food....... I think everyone who was at Cirque went to Puck's, it was packed. I somehow lost the receipts so I don't have a clue who our server was but she was very helpful.:upsidedow

Appetizers - DH & I ordered the Crispy Calamari, DS ordered the BBQ Chicken Quesadilla and GF ordered the Tuna Tartare. These were all very good, but the Quesadilla was the best!

WDW2007133.jpg

WDW2007135.jpg

Entrees - DH ordered the Double Cut Pork Chop with Braised Swiss Chard, Red Onions and a Wholegrain Mustard sauce. He didn't care for this at all, he said it was tough and dry. I tasted it and disagreed about the toughness but it was dry.

WDW2007137.jpg

I ordered the Asian Hoisin BBQ Ribs with a Crispy Asian Slaw. It was good, but it didn't WOW me.

WDW2007136.jpg

The teens decided on sushi for their entrees. One Rainbow Roll and one Daily Sushi Special. These were both excellent!

WDW2007138.jpg

WDW2007139.jpg

For dessert DH & DS both ordered the Carrot Cake, GF ordered the Key Lime Pie and I ordered the Bread Pudding. These were all very good, I thought the Bread Pudding was the winner.

While the food was fairly good, none of us were really excited about this place. It just didn't quite measure up. Would we return? I doubt it, next time we decide to dine at Downtown Disney, we'll probably try Raglan Road.

Our rating - :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Next up - Flying Fish
