We just tried the DDP for the first time this past week. Stayed at OKW for 4 nights, so we were able to get the plan without getting the park tickets as we are DVC owners.

Anyway, while we tried restaurants we had never tried before, we weren't crazy about it. We normally don't eat such large sit down meals every night. We also don't normally each get our own CS meal with drinks for each of us because the food just goes to waste.

First time "tries" for us were:

Hollywood & Vine - good but won't go back. Didn't realize it was buffet
Kona Cafe - really enjoyed & will possibly go back
Italy in EPCOT (don't know name) - OK - extremely over priced

So, for us, we don't be doing the dining plan again. We always get a vehicle & go to some great & reasonable off-site restaurants (Orlando Ale House :) ) that we really enjoy.

For any on-site sit down meals we do on our April trip we'll get the DDE card for the discount - it works better for us.

Sorry it didn't work out better for you. I have been having second thoughts of my own...

Sometimes, my son and I would split a counter service meal for lunch and save his counter service credit for a breakfast item. We aren't big breakfast eaters so this worked out well for us.

I hate that it was just OKAY for you guys. The dining plan works well for some and not so well for others.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we tried it because I've always wanted to do it. I'm glad we were able to make our own opinion about it. It just wasn't the right thing for us.

I didn't like being tied to dinner ressies every evening at certain restaurants.

There are many people that really enjoy the dining plan & you might be one of them! :goodvibes

We are using for the first time in 10 days. After reading SOOOO much about it, I am going to go in with a great attitude and hope for the best. However, it certainly sounds like the pre-Jan 1,2008 plan was much preferred by many.

That's definitely the right attitude to have. We probably wouldn't have tried any of the restaurants we did on this last trip without the dining plan, so I have to say I'm glad about that.

We'll most likely go back to Kona at some point but not the other places we went to. We also did breakfast at FW one morning with a TS credit, which probably wasn't the best use of the "value" because it's only $12.99 per person.

I do wish we would have tried it sooner because of the tips being included in the past.

We have done 3 trips on the dinning plan. We like it. But this past trip (1/19-26, no appts. and had to pay for the tip) I realized how much food you got before and can't believe we tried to eat it all!!!! We like to know that we have a nice dinner to go to.-especially if you are exhausted! We also like the convience of having it all paid for ahead of time. I think it is worth trying at least once!!!

MELSMICE-thank you for your comment...

Yea, we had free dining last September and we enjoyed that, but then again it was free! ;)

My second thoughts are coming from the fact that we are paying this time around, and I'm just not sure the value is there for me and my family, not to mention I also didn't care for the inconvenience of being tied to a schedule. I think we'll give it one more try though and we'll see what happens! :wizard:

Yep ME and DW did it the last 2 Septs. and yes was free so no complaints here and we are going this year on the bounce backs so I can't complain about tiping and will only pay for a few Apps.

We aren't big "sit down" eaters either. This will be our first time on the dining plan and it's basically an indulgence for us. I've always wanted to try it so we'll see what happens. I have a feeling that next time we'll be wingin' it for food. (Especially since they changed the plan, much to my horror).
