I *FINALLY* finished this layout. :) I've struggled for a while with what to do and how to finish it. This photo was taken from Burnside Bridge at Antietam looking at Antietam Creek. I couldn't find the right words to fit the mood and feeling, but I think that the quote I finally found fits. Being at the battlefield and seeing it really helps you to understand what happened.

I created everything but the two staples. I used actions I downloaded from Atomic Cupcake to create the crumple effect, burned edges, and torn paper. The staples are also from Atomic Cupcake. It is hard to tell at this size, but I used a Rub On action on "Antietam Creek." I'm happy with how it turned out.

This next layout I finished is a sort of THEN and NOW of Antietam. After the battle of Antietam Alexander Gardner, who worked for Mathew Brady, visited the battlefield and took over 70 photos of it. This was the first time that the bloody truth of the war was photographed. He would later go and visit the field again in October when Lincoln visited McClellan there. In October 1862 Brady opened up an exhibit at his studio in New York called "The Dead of Antietam." This was the first time that the people back home got see the aftermath of battle. It was a shocking exhibit to say the least. The New York Times said, "The dead of the battle-field come up to us very rarely, even in dreams. We see the list in the morning paper at breakfast, but dismiss its recollection with the coffee... Mr. Brady has done something to bring home to us the terrible reality and earnestness of war. If he has not brought bodies and laid them in our door-yards and along streets, he has done something very like it."

*** So if you would like to see the layout, be warned that there are two of Gardner's battlefield photos used that do contain images of the battle which may be considered graphic to some ***

Hmmm.... could be. I wonder how the ones on Ebay get sold. Did you download clipart or did you color and design it. If you color, designed and/or drew it, I think you would be ok, but I am not sure.

Well, whatever you decide they are AWESOME and you have a LOT of talent!

Last week was our first week of school (I homeschool) and it was very hectic..... hopefully I'll get into the swing of things soon!

everyone's layouts are beautiful. How in the heck do you get inspired?? Cause I downloaded a bunch of stuff and I am not inspired.

I am working on something but then I hate it. LOL.

Well i had a really long post almost ready to go about challenges and wouldn't you know it I accidentally closed the stupid window. I will try to recreate it and post later.

Ok I was smart this time, did it in Notepad! Here is a long list of sites that have challenges, I will add this to the Digital FAQ too. I'm sure there are tons more sites out there with challenges, but this should definately get you started. I normally do all the SOTB & Digitals challenges (I have CT duties at both sites, so I like to help promote the sites, plus the mega kits of bonuses is awesome!), I do a few at SBE & I do all 5 at DDD.

Scrap Outside the Box - has 19 challenges each month, the posting bonuses all coordinate with each other. One is a posting bonus that you need to sign up for, so do that one quickly! If you complete 12 challenges, you get a few bonus QPs.
Digitals - has 17 monthly challenges, with coordinating posting bonuses. Many of them have a few pieces that you need to download and use in the challenge, but you have to post that you want the pieces and it will be PMd to you, so do that soon. If you complete 12 challenges, you get another bonus kit.
Gotta Pixel - I've never done them.
Digital Divas Design (DDD) - has 5 monthly challenges. Each challenge you complete increases a percent off coupon in the store, 1 challenge is 10%, 5 is 50%. If you post layouts there, you have a decent chance of winning their layout of the day contest, which gives you a .50 cent gift certificate for each win and you can combine both during the next month. If you win LOTD 3 times, you get a gc for $1.50, so I look for items in the store for $3.00, use the 50% off and then that makes it $1.50 and use my gc so there is no cost.
Divine Digital - has a few weekly and monthly challenges with posting bonuses. They also have a daily challenge series with a theme, that gives freebies each day.
Scrapbook-Elements - has a few monthly and weekly challenges with posting bonuses.
The Scrapping Garden - has several challenges, I have never done them.
Digital Scrapbook Place (DSP) - has many challenges, some monthly, some weekly, some on weird schedules. Some have posting bonuses, some have random winners of kits, some have best LO wins a kit. They have a couple challenges with no bonus, so read carefully before you do them.
Digital Freebies - has challenges, but their site is down now, so I can't check them out, I have not done theirs before.
3 Scrapateers - has several challenges, I have never done them.
Go Digital Scrapbooking (GDS) - has several challenges, plus it's their 1st birthday til Sept 8th, so they have extra challenges and games and free stuff now til then.
Scrapbook Bytes - has several challenges, I've never done them.

I imagine that's quite enough to get you started!!

Thanks for Posting Fran, lots of great sites! :thumbsup2

Thanks, Fran! I can't WAIT to get started!!!!

I love people like you with all that info!

Fran - Great list.. Always good to see you here.

I havent posted lately because I just havent felt like scrapping so I have no layouts to share but I am still jumping in and reading. maybe I will get out of this funk soon.

Thanks for the list Fran. I also like to use Scrapgirls.com.

I understand being in a funk, Kelly. :goodvibes At this moment I decided to scrap a girls trip I took to CA via Shutterfly (the easy way out). But I needed to get this scrapbook done. Hopefully my funk will get over soon.
