I don't know how to post a poll so here it is:

Did you like gym class in school?

Yes or No, and Why?

I absoluetely hated gym class in high school. Granted this was a while ago, but my frehsman gym teacher was this tough as nails guy that literally was nasty to all people that weren't jocks. He made us do army basic training exercise "calistenistics".. yes he actually used that word!

It was terrible. I hated the rope climb and all the other stuff. I wasn't a big sports person and that made it worse.

I was so thankful for junior and senior years where you could pick your gym teacher and sport for the semester. I took the gym teacher who always taught aerobics.. so we did a Jazzercise type routine in class. (it was the 80's what can I say?). I also didn't mind the volleyball class either.

I hated the stupid squaredancing unit. Who thought that up? Back then they were always an odd amount of kids. So it was ok for the girls to "do si do" together, but if there was an odd amount of boys, one got stuck with two girl partners or with the female gym teacher.. (ACK!)

My kids have it better. They do more fun things and its less rote stuff. They have at least gotten rid of the squaredance unit, and its stuff like the Electric Slide/Macarena/Cotten Eye Joe stuff. They also do aerobics/Tae bo stuff as well.

The part I hated most was having to get dressed in those stinky locker rooms with no curtains on the dressing rooms and then being all sweaty for the rest of the day! I hated square dancing and field hockey..what a bogus "sport" that is supposed to be!!!

absolutely loved gym class, it was my favorite class.........

Brandy

Hated cold showers, ugly gymsuits, and sweating in front of the guys class. And mean girls. The ones who would aim for the face regardless of the rules.

I actually liked gym class, I was always a pretty decent athlete. The part I hated were those disgusting uniforms we had to wear. Blue and white stripe tees with those ugly blue stretchy shorts. :crazy2:

I have some hilarious memories of gym class, actually. Of Dodge Ball and that crazy game Crab Soccer? Does anyone remember that? What a hoot. Everyone pretty much sucked at it but it was fun.

Detested it. I was (am) very uncoordinated and I felt like everyone was laughing at my lack of ability. They probably were.

LOL about Crab Soccer. That was the only thing I was remotely good at.

I think I had the same uniform as Snoopy. I hated PE. I was one of the kids who was always picked for teams near the end, not the last, but almost the last. The PE teacher always picked the same 2 girls to be team captains- the best athletes in the class. I was a gymnast but I couldn't throw or catch a ball at all.

I liked gym a lot. We didn't have to wear uniforms or take showers, and our teacher was fairly laid back--as long as you tried, she'd give you credit.

I had parents who wanted me to spend nearly every moment of my spare time studying, so sometimes gym class was the only activity I got.

LOL--Crab Soccer! :teeth:

I mentioned something about this in the other thread about gym, working its way through the forum this morning.... It seems that those who least needed gym got the most out of it, and those that needed gym the most got the least out of it. I attribute that to the fact that, at least in my school, 25 years aog, the stereotype of gym teachers as generally ineffective and incompetent, was accurate.

Same stupid uniform!

I liked volleyball, and the crab soccer was fun. I didn't like the little scooter races. Seemed to always run over my fingers!

I liked gym up until high school. And I still like weightlifting on Monday, Wedsneday and Friday. But its the other two days I can't stand.

The other day there was a large mold thing growing in one of the lockers. Its gone now.

Gym was ok. I totally sucked at the rope climbing, but running, volleyball and basketball I was ok at.

I did not like gym class. I hated that you had to be checked for taking a shower. And our uniforms were nothing like Snoopy's. I wish I had a picture. It was a hideous shade of puke yellow like a short shirt waist dress with bloomers. This was not in the 40's or 50's, I graduated high school in 1971. And it was public school. All of Baltimore County wore the same thing.

It was sort of a cross between this

but an awful yellow.

I can't get the first picture to show. Sorry.

This sounds similar to my school. I graduated in 1973 from high school in Prince George's County. We had to wear blue one piece gym suits. They snapped up the front and the legs, (shorts), looked like bloomers with elastic in the bottom of them. I also remember they had to be washed and ironed every week. I also hated the shower part. The gym teacher stood by the door of this huge shower area and as you walked past her you had to open your towel to prove that you were naked. She would then check your name off her clipboard. What was up with that!?!?! I'm sure today that would be a lawsuit waiting to happen.

And, I absolutely HATED dodgeball and that game where a HUGE medicine ball, I think it was called), was thrown around a room. It should have been called the ball of fear and death. And, what a bunch of mean girls! They'd lob that ball at anyone or anything.

I do remember enjoying archery for the few weeks that we did it, and I liked when we got to use the gymnastic equipment.

I loved gym in highschool. We didn't have to wear stinky uniforms but we always had to bring our own clothes to change into. If you forgot you could not participate, and you got a zero for the day. I was one of the only girls who actually participated frequently.

We did not have uniforms either. I graduated in 1980. One day, three of us refused to change.
I hated changing in there with all the cheerleaders. Well, the gym teacher yelled at us and told us to go straight to the principal. We did. She asked why we were there, and then said, "you are here because you did not change for gym class?" yes ma'am was our reply.
She then preceded to march us back down to phys ed and yell at the teacher in front of everyone! She said he was wasting her time. That the three of us were good kids and he needed to find something else to do.
I will never forget her. She was great!

BTW, I liked dodgeball, archery, and volleyball. HATED, HATED gymnastics.
Lisa :cheer2:
