Did you enjoy gym class in school?

no--b/c there was always people who knew how to do stuff and were good at it...and then there were people like me who needed to learn stuff.

Gym was always a joke--as we weren't really taught anything. Those who knew how to do it got better, while those of us who didn't were left to being picked last.

And, I absolutely HATED dodgeball and that game where a HUGE medicine ball, I think it was called), was thrown around a room. It should have been called the ball of fear and death.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: I think that WAS it's technical name!

I hated gym--everything about it. I was uncoordinated and sucked at any kind of sports. It seems like one year, I got hit in the head with every kind of ball we used--because I wasn't looking, not because someone was throwing it at me on purpose. :teeth:

And, somehow, in the weird way the world works, I have a total jock for a child. She loves sports and is great at them and is incredibly competitive. So, since she's been tiny, I've been right back at the ballparks, volleyball games, and basketball courts, cheering her on and being totally AMAZED that my kid is a jock. :teeth: The creepiest thing was that her 7th grade basketball coach was my most hated gym teacher when I was in 7th grade. The woman had to be 120 years old by now and she was just as witchy now as she was then. :rotfl:

Hated it - not into team sports at all.

I'm HORRIBLE at softball, basketball, vollyball. I was good at ice skating and roller skating. I also danced. I was in good shape but very unskilled at the activities we did in gym class. I was in the 'cool' group so even though I was unskilled my friends wouldn't let me get picked last.

Our classes were also multi grade level. Just what every 6th grader wants is to have to change in front of and shower with some really cool 8th graders.

Ug I can still remember getting my 1st period in 6th grade and wearing a pad, having to change and skip showers so everyone knew, total humiliation.

Loved it -- for some strange reason, my favorite part of high school gym class was the part of the year we played badminton! :teeth: :teeth:

I hated it. My gym teacher happened to be the girls' softball coach. Every stinking day that it was nice outside we had to play softball. Softball ALL THE TIME!! When it rained we had to go inside and play basketball.

Both are sports that I hated. There was no variety. I would have been happy just to do calisthenics or something. Yep, if you weren't some jock, she was a real pain. Gym was always one of worst grades because I would get so pissed at the softball crap that I would refuse to get dressed.

Snoopy, I think I had the same gym uniform. It was a white and blue striped top, with the navy blue stretchy bottoms. But ours were all one piece and the top zipped up. They were so awful.

Loved it! Indoor soccer, dodgeball, ultimate frisbee, water polo, european handball, crab soccer, you name it! I wasn't great at any of it, but I didn't suck either ;)

Not really. It was one of the few classes in HS that I didn't get straight A's in. Shorthand and typing were the others. Interestingly, one quarter, the teacher decided to design objectives and grade according to performance and meeting objectives, and that term, with that teacher, I got an A. For most of my gym courses, I had one particular teacher that I think took a disliking to me my freshman year. As some background information, I have 20/200 vision without glasses in my good eye, and amblyopia, with no depth perception at all. This woman got her panties in a wad my sophomore year when I took driver's education, because I missed gym 2 days a week for instruction. Well, DUH, that's when driver's ed was done at our school. Lots of kids missed gym 2 days a week for driver's ed that term. Sure beats missing AP Physics or Calculus for Driver's Ed. What put her over the edge was having an appointment with my guidance counselor to schedule my next year's courses, which everybody had to do, and during gym. The term I got an A was the term that I suspect she had a miscarriage (or maybe an abortion), because she was fat when she left and came back about 20 lbs lighter about 2 mos later. For all I know, she may even have had a baby.

Loved badminton! ::yes::

I am rolling over the medicine ball fear of death....I had completely forgotten about that, but now that I am reminded, I am thinking nothing ever good came from that game! :rotfl:

I hated it! Simply because it was first period...so I would get all ready for school only to get all sweaty....YUCK@!

I hated gym class with every fiber of my being. ::shudder::

This pretty much sums it up for me.

And what is WITH a two week unit on how to catch a frisbee????

Yes, this is a skill I use daily...NOT.

Absolutely despised gym class! Our gym teachers always went out of their way to be nice to the athletic kids and nasty to the nonathletic types. We also had to wear the one piece blue snap up uniform. My kids's gym classes are different. They bring in shorts and t-shirts or other work out clothes and the activities are more fun and oriented for all students.

I loved gym! I was a "nerd" who actually had athletic ability. Gym was my way to show the other kids, "hey, she is really good."

I mostly liked gym class, even in high school. I also don't understand the square dancing unit, but I thought that it was fun. The unit that I didn't like was basketball. That was boring to me, because we never actually played. We always just shot baskets :confused3 I loved it when it was "capture the flag" time, though! That was the best unit IMHO!

I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. One of the gym teachers liked me because I was dating a wrestler and he coached wrestling. He gave me a 'B' for swimming when I swam one time. :p

I never did enough to work up a sweat either. It was more social hour. LOL! :)

HATED it until High School - up until HS the teachers/coaches were sadists - in HS the teachers/coaches were fair and nice - really tried to make the experience positive for ALL students.

MY DD8 has a nice enough teacher, he really tries to make it fun - but, sadly is not the "brightest bulb" - he regales them with stories about the fun and glory of jumping off bridges into the river and such...( he is ex-military - I think he sometimes confuses elementary Phys. Ed with grown up boot camp!?) - and he drinks soda and eats junk food in front of them almost daily!!!! geesh!

Do they still do that sadistic thing in the upper grades where you are forced to shower!? I always saw that for what it was - a power/control thing rather than a true necessity.

:wizard:

I never really took a gym class. I played football and basketball from the 7th to 9th grade which was Jr. High, and then played football, baseball, track, and golf in High School. Those sports were considered my gym classes so I never had to take the regular ones.

Why does it seem like every gym class in America plays handball, yet we always suck at it in the Olympics? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I loved that sport in gym class!
