Did the COVID discussion policy change?

With a cruise coming up in March, I have found it helpful to follow these threads regarding testing at the port, testing on board, etc. I see that everything involving COVID is locked this morning. Has the policy been changed to no COVID related posts even if connected to cruising?
Thanks to the mods for all their hard work. I just want to make sure I understand posting guidelines.

Yikes... so many threads locked
I appreciate the work the mods do here but I also think the wealth of information obtained on this board is invaluable, including the C-word threads. I don't agree with the blanket censorship.

Sometimes the censorship of this board really makes me reconsider wanting to use Dreams Unlimited Travel. I love the podcasts, but there has been so many decisions on here that really make me reconsider giving them my money. I mean last Spring I and many others were ready to leave the board entirely over the loss of the news thread. You cannot discuss cruising without Covid right now. This was basically the only reliable space to get the necessary information about it.

It’s a head scratcher for sure. Talking about cruises without being able to talk about Covid is like talking about Disney World parks and not being able to talk about Genie+. DCL’s and port’s and CDC’s policies related to Covid are the most drastic change to cruising since I’ve been alive for sure. It’s really 90% of what I think about when planning my cruise.

Just so you know, while Pete owns both Disboards and Dreams Unlimited, the admin and mods on Disboards are not employees of Dreams Unlimited and are mostly autonomous, as in Pete and the Dreams Unlimited Travel Agents are not the ones who make moderating decisions on Disboards.

Agreed. As someone who just pushed a cruise from March out to July (fingers crossed), the discussion of these policies is invaluable in my decision making of when/if to cruise again. I hope we get some clarification on the locked threads as well as the policy moving forward.

I agree with that 100%. the blanket censorship regarding a certain topic when the conversation is informational, not argumentative in nature is annoying. I appreciate the effort made to keep everyone civil, but conversations still need to be had and information shared.

Here is Webmaster Kathy's comments, so I agree they were locked in error:

From this point on, we will welcome information on COVID policies RELATED TO TRAVEL. Things like the vaccination policies issued by venues or destinations, the cleaning or distancing procedures in use, practical tips for travelers or things they might need to know that are different from location to location are all valid topics. Any official policies issued by Disney, other travel destinations, cruise lines, airlines, etc. regarding requirements for visiting parks or cruising can be shared. This information needs to be on-topic for the specific forum and thread where posted.

Maybe it's because people can't help but give their opinions about everything Covid and Vaccine-related? It's been a difficult topic to navigate and walk the fine line.
Well, it's a discussion board so I would think some opinion based discussion is fine as long as it doesn't turn rude or argumentative :confused3 The posts I've seen on this board have all been very civil and informative.

I know a year ago people's opinions always led to debates that got ugly. The topics can be very divisive. I agree the discussions have been a lot more civil. I don't know if that is due to the heavy-handed moderation or people have learned self-control. I try to word things carefully, but I still screw up sometimes. It's much more relaxing to post about WDW's demise on the theme park board. LOL

One of the topics locked without explanation last night was simply asking what Disney's policy is for people who contract Covid within 14 days of sailing. That seems pretty relevant to cruising and not speculation or opinion.

So, either the policy changed without warning or announcement, or someone made an error.

Sometimes mods need a break. Locking certain threads that have the potential to degrade gives them a breather and a chance to clean things up. I would bet that this is temporary.
