for the free dining plan?

That the tickets are only $57 for admission into the park, food AND hotel?:scared1:

Aren't admission tickets ALONE like $60 a day?

You have to pay rack rate for the hotel room and the park tickets, just not the +/- $38 a night for the dining plan.

Right - for the "free dining" promotion you pay full price for the hotel room (rack rate) and the tix that are required for the promo, and they give you the food for the length of your stay.

The Magic Your Way tickets are built on a sliding scale downward, with the highest price being a single day ticket... the more days you stay and play, the "average" daily ticket price decreases - therefore the 10 day ticket is much less per day than the single day ticket.

If you're under the impression that it's $57 for a night in a hotel room, a park ticket and dining, then yes you read it wrong. Prices vary depending on what hotel you stay at. If you're staying in a value hotel for 5 nights. 2 adults and 2 kids ages 5 and 7. If you were paying for your package with dining it would be $2200. With free dining it would be $1720. At a moderate the same package would be $2665 oop, or $2185 with free dining.

I always use "free DDP" in quotations, because it is not "completely" free. There are other discounts you could use in place of the DDP, but the DDP is (in my opinion) a much better deal. But its not really free if you consider the other discounts you turn down. You could always take the room discount codes or AP or FL resident, military, etc instead.

That is IF you have an ap or Fl resident military or any other discount which I don't have.

I think you're going by the advertising material, yes? The line that starts "Prices start at:
$57 per person..." Right?

You have to note that it continues on.

Prices start at:
$57 per person, per day for family of 4 at select Value Resorts (std room)
$73 per person, per day for family of 4 at select Moderate Resorts (std room)
$104 per person, per day for family of 4 at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa (studio)

And they even have a specific sort of family that entails (one child being 3-9, the other child being 10-17 so they are charged adult ticket and get adult meals, BUT don't count as an extra adult in the room).

There's lots of not-fine but possibly confusing print in those advertisements! Gotta read it all. :)

Here is the link to the announcement where you can read more (all) about it.

so I DID read it wrong...

What I was reading is VERY misleading IMHO...(its the announcement at the top of the page)

It makes it sound like you get the
5 nights stay
6 days at the parks
Free Dinig plan

ALL for $57 per person per day (for fam of 4).....

Ok I'm gonna go get that free quote from DU so I don't have to use my brain - I'm OBVIOUSLY NOT capable of understanding this! :confused3

but if I go for WDW for 3 days the admission ONLY is $60 or so without a special right?

we only go 3 or 4 days when we go....

Yes - that's the link I've printed out & have read several times & even read it to DH who is out of town - read him the WHOLE thing (ok NOT the Canada stuff) but everything else I read it to him

And he interpreted it the same way.

That's how I'm reading it as well.. I read the link but I still don't understand it. Can someone break it down? What does the $57/day cover then?

See I just don't get this math...:confused3

I TOLD you I was dumb.....

But let me do it the way I'm reading it from your example of the value hotel...$57 a night x 4 people = $228 a day x 5 nights would be only $1140 - a good bit cheaper than the example....I don't get what I'm missing

WHO KNOW word problems would be important for planning my WDW trip! Guess I should have paid attention more in math! :upsidedow

Ok enough thinking for now.....

What you just posted is very different from what you originally posted.

Hotel, dining plan, and tickets can all be put together as a package. What this promotion is is a package that costs the same as the hotel and ticket package would have cost just 3 days before the special was announced (or closer, but 3 days before it was announced was the last time I priced some packages out), but with the Dining Plan.

Tickets are heavily-priced the shorter you stay. By the time you're on a 10 day ticket, those last couple days are only $2 each per person per day...price difference between an 8 day ticket and a 10 day ticket is maybe 4 bucks.

So that's something to really notice when you're thinking about prices, especially with tickets.

It sounds like you guys understood the package, but that didn't come through in your first post, sorry. But it doesn't sound like you guys realized how CHEAP getting more days of tickets is, compared to just one or two days of tickets. And that's where the difference in understanding is coming into play. I think. :)

Also, if you don't know about the Dining Plan, PLEASE before you sign up, read about it. The plan that's "free" is one table service and one counter service meal and one snack per night you are staying. Meals are entree, non-booze drink, and dessert (both counter and table, I believe). NO appetizer. And the biggest thing is that you DO pay the tip, and you tip based on what you *would have been paying* for that dinner. So if yo order prime rib, you tip based on the cost you would have paid for that. And if you order the noodle bowl for $17, you tip based on that. :)

When I was pricing things out ahead of time, the packages I was looking at for hotel and ticket ended up being the same amount with the free Dining Plan later on. It *can* be a good deal!

See they are taking the TOTAL and dividing it by those 4 exact people in their example. Since there's no discount on the room with the Free Dining Plan package, you can think of each night as being 82 bucks at a value during value season. Then the tickets are added. Since the tickets get so "low" in price as the stay goes on, you could think of your first day as costing $60 per person to get into the parks, then the next day it's $45, then the next day it's $29, and so on until those last days costing $2. :) (the stuff in italics is not to be taken as anything exact, I made up those numbers...I'll try to find the link that shows the costs of tickets...)

But they don't do that, they add the 82 times x number of nights, they take the TOTAL of the tickets, add them all together, divide them so you see the per person (specific ages) per night example. :)

I went to disneyworld's site, went to Tickets, Tickets Only, just chose a number of people and number of days, and it shows me the chart.

Right now, 4/28/2008 at 4:50pm (just in case they raise prices before I finish this reply, LOL):

The price per day for a 1 day ticket for an adult is 71.00 (kid 60.00)
The price per day for a 2 day ticket for an adult is 69.50 (kid 58.50)
The price per day for a 3 day ticket for an adult is 67.67 (kid 57.00)
The price per day for a 4 day ticket for an adult is 53.00 (kid 44.50)
The price per day for a 5 day ticket for an adult is 43.00 (kid 35.80)
The price per day for a 6 day ticket for an adult is 36.17 (kid 30.17)
The price per day for a 7 day ticket for an adult is 31.29 (kid 26.00)
The price per day for an 8 day ticket for an adult is 27.63 (kid 23.13)
The price per day for a 9 day ticket for an adult is 24.78 (kid 20.67)
The price per day for a 10 day ticket for an adult is 22.50 (kid 18.70)

So you can see how averaging all that together starts bringing things down to "57 per day per person". :)

But ultimately I think your understanding, knowing that you see it as a *starting* point of $57 per day per person, is basically correct. To me, that just didn't come across in your first post as much as it did later. :goodvibes

Okay - going from ONLY this chart that says tickets ONLY are $53 per ADULT per DAY...

According to the advertisement it says that price for a family of 4 start at $57 for a 5 night stay (at a select value resort) AND a 6 day ticket and FREE plan....

SOOOO to me it looks like you're actually staying in the hotel for FREE along with the dining plan being free....

SEE? I AM missing something here!:sad2:

Come on now I wanna get this so I can use that lightbulb smiley! LOL

I'm in the same boat as you! I don't think I'll ever get it. Which is a big problem because soon I'll be working with Disney reservations :rotfl2:

Okay, I will give it a try for you.....this is if you price it out not as a package.
The price per day for a 6 day ticket for an adult is 36.17 (kid 30.17) so assuming the ad is for 2 kids 2 adults....

6 x 36.17 =217.02
6 x 30.17= 181.02

5 nights @ value season resort 5 x 82= $410.00
Total $808.04 plus tax approx $101.00 = Grand Total 909.04

The advertised price is $57 x 4 = 228.00 x 5 = $1140.00
dining free

Sooo, it looks like they are actually charging a "little" extra for the FREE dining package....OR one of the kids could be considered 10-17 which would be adult ticket price and that would be an extra $36.00, which would still make a difference in Disney's favour of $203.96. BUT of course you get the free dining which is great!
I hope this helps.....

The ad states specifically that the prices are for 5 nights/6 days. See below:

A 5-night/6-day package includes: (longer and shorter stays are available)

* 5 nights at a select Disney Resort
* 6 Day Magic Your Way Base Ticket
* FREE Disney Dining Plan
* 3 night minimum length of stay - 14 night maximum

* Booking by 6/22/08

* Travel Dates: 8/24/08 – 9/20/08

* Prices start at:
$57 per person, per day for family of 4 at select Value Resorts (std room)
$73 per person, per day for family of 4 at select Moderate Resorts (std room)
$104 per person, per day for family of 4 at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa (studio)
