Did I hear right? Cheerleaders during MLK weekend??

Just wondering because I will be there with wife.. no offense to the cheerleaders, but we would like to avoid the "teenage exhuberance" that takes place during these types of events....

I have no idea, Wacko, but I hear you...I ran into the misfortune once, and hope to never again  ;)

Yes, I believe they'll be there during MLK weekend. According to MousePlanet, that's the weekend of the College Cheerleading and Dance Team Championship.

However, your chances of running into cheerleaders can vary. During our last visit in 2003, we were there during a cheerleader weekend too. As far as we could tell, we didn't run into any of them the entire weekend. Call it luck of the draw...in terms of being at one park while the cheerleaders were at another park. Of course, it's not just the parks. If you're staying on property at one of the value resorts, your chances of running into youthful exuberance may be higher. Maybe it was fluke, but we were prepared for cheerleaders and ended up with a completely cheer-free stay. :)

Oh, we did run into cheerleaders...on our flight back home! By that point, we didn't mind at all. LOL! :teeth:

haha i wouldnt worry about it. There are ALWAYS cheerleaders there, or foreign teenage tour groups, or sport teams. We had all three in abundance this week. Annoying annoying teenagers. Im a teenager and an ex-cheerleader and they even pain me. Just try and avoid them, or atleast bring ear plugs.

Yes, there's a collegiate national dance competition that weekend. My husband's actually looking forward to going!!

I would think you wouldn't see much of the collegiate squads. They'll be busy competing and practicing, and when they are in the parks, I would hope they would be more mature than the teenage squads.

There were college cheerleaders at WDW when we went over MLK weekend in 2004, and the ones we encountered were great. We stood in line at TOT with about 6 of them, and they talked with DD the whole time, and were really sweet. They even gave DD a hug when she got off the ride crying (I know, I'm a bad mom. But, she wanted to try it!). I think the fact that they are college kids, and not exactly teenagers anymore, makes a big difference.
We'll be there over MLK weekend again next month and I'm not too concerned about them.
