Did anyone see the discussion on Fox News about V & A age restrictions?

Just watched Neil Cavuto and his guest (I have no idea who she was as I tuned in late) debate the "no guests under 10" rule that Victoria and Alberts just instituted.

Neil seemed to think it was a good idea. His guest, not so much.

As I was walking out of work, I saw the TV screen with the bold letters "Disney Restaurant bans Children - Not family Friendly?" The sound was turned down, so I couldn't hear what restaurant.

I laughed.....First thing I thought of was V & A....and actually would find it offensive if they did allow children into such a restaurant. There are times that my wife and I pay for in room babysitting, or have the kids with my parents and want a night to ourselves for adults. We love kids, but there are times (especially when spending so much money between babysitting and a restaurant) where we don't want to see kids for the evening.

Just because it has the word "Disney" on it, does not mean that it should be for kids too.

If that was the case, I guess they should let kids into all the clubs at Pleasure Island too?

Typical sensationalized news report of a non event.

I saw that, and LOL. That woman was an idiot. The anchor had been to V&A and freely admitted his kids would be monsters in there... but the guest's beef was that Disney is a "family resort" and that there shouldn't be a "law" banning kids (her word, the anchor quickly informed her it's not a law!). Does she know WDW is the #1 honeymoon destination too? Um, it's not just families with kids who go there!

She also questioned why WDW would have such a fancy restaurant to begin with, and seemed to think it should be only up to parents to monitor their kids... uh, in a perfect world, yes...

Anyway, she seemed to think Disney was starting on a slippery slope... she actually asked if banning 80 year olds was next... she wanted to know why Disney "arbitarily" picked age 10... I was just shaking my head. Clearly she has not been to WDW... or else she'd know 10 is the cutoff between child and adult for just about anything!

is this "ban" new? I thought this was always the case. Jacket, ties, dresses, and no kids was required from day one?????????:confused3

banning 80 year olds from the parks??? how do you get that out of a age restriction at a restaurant?

to add to her insane argument. they should let all children on every ride. i should be able to hold an infant while on R-n-R.

I have to admit that I am completely stumped as to why this new policy is controversial at all. I am the proud mother of DD4 and DS10 and it is perfectly ok with me if Disney decides to make a restaurant adult only. It isn't like they made all the restaurants in Epcot adult only. This is ONE restaurant. On the occasion that my DH and I have our date night, I really don't want to sit through dinner being disturbed by other people's children. I don't understand why others would think that is is a bad thing to have a place where adults can enjoy a quiet dinner without interuption. I personally doubt that I will ever eat at V&A, but I definitely do not begrudge other adults to eat in peace. This really seems like a non-issue to me.

I can't believe this is a major news story??!!

Not a major story....and not really a story at all...just a typical fluff piece that channels like Fox News sensationalizes into something to try to get ratings.

That woman was an idiot.

 Ditto. She didn't have a single good arguement for why this was bad, and she came across as unprepared and a total ditz.

She even made the comment that people who went to Disney without kids were creepy anyway.

Her comment about banning 80 year olds was not in reference to Disney. She said that banning kids from a restaurant in Disney was like banning 80 year olds from Leisure World.

I am also a parent of two small kids and the ban doesn't bother me at all. There are plenty of other places to eat. My kids behave very, very well in restaurants, but I still wouldn't take them to V&A.

The craziest thing that woman said was in response to Cavuto's comment that lots of couples with no kids go to Disney and want a restaurant that caters to them, to which she replied "Well, isn't that kind of creepy/weird (I can't remember which word she used) that people with no kids would go to Disney?". Ummm....I guess DH and I are weird because we went to Disneyland on our first date and MANY times before kids and then we went to Disney World on our honeymoon.

Exactly! LOl I have four children, and I completely understand why there would be such a rule in place at ONE restaurant. I mean, my husband and i do like to go places without the kids too and there are a hundred other restaurants to take them to! LOL

I can't believe that this was discussed in any format other than this one. But isn't there a restaurant on the Disney cruise ship that is adults only. What's the big deal? I wish there was a less pricey restaurant that restricted kids.

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I heard about this on the uk boards.

I am in two minds. Personally I would not take my children thier. For many reasons. Main one its not a family resturant. Anyway the only reason I have two minds is because my newphew is way advanced and at the age of 8 he was very intelligent. Didnt like kiddy things at all. For instance he will be taking his GCSE's (in US terms) high school certificates I think 2 years early. He is on the list in UK for brainest children. I know this is an exception. There are children in private schooling who simply grow up and are alot mature than other children.

Considering this is a minority I can see why Disney went with the majority. I dont think its a bad idea. At least we know there is somewhere special that you can celebrate as an adult.

I completely understand where you're coming from. I have a nephew who is very similar. He's over the 10 year age limit now, but when he was younger he was extremely calm and mature, very intelligant kid.

However I think since Disney has so many other fine dining choices, they're not excluding children from the fine dining atmosphere at all. Just this one particular restaurant. There's plenty of quiet, adult-oriented restaurants on property that still cater to kids.

Thats true. I would have to say Ohana was impressive for me. Excellent food, atmosphere etc...

The knee-jerk responses just amuse me. The way I see it, the deluxe resorts wouldn't offer the kids' clubs for babysitting if they didn't intend their parents to have the opportunity for a night out. ;)

And considering how old the Disney parks are, most adults who love Disney started out as kids who loved Disney. Go figure.

Okay, I don't know what Leisure World is, but I'm guessing it's for senior citizens? Anyway, she's wrong: Disney banning people under a certain age from a restaurant is the same as an 'adults only' community banning residents under 55.

With absolutely NO aspersions on your nephew - being advanced, or brilliant, or super-intelligent doesn't necessarily mean one is socially mature.
