Diapers for Dogs?

Our dog is about 15, and is going blind, and losing control of her bladder. She does try to go outside, but she doesn't make it most of the time. However, aside from this she really is basically in good health, she's just old.

The constant mess on the carpet is really getting to be a problem. I have to shampoo or spot clean daily. I have seen diapers for dogs...has anyone had success in using these? My concern is that she'd just pull it off (she doesn't even like wearing a collar).

I have used diapers on my foster dog and she does pretty well with them, but if she has a bm, it gets real messy.

I have started using prissy pants with a pad in it and they work really well. Let the poop out and absorbs the pee!

We'll probably both get flamed for this, but that's ok. :teeth:

My elderly dog had lost the use of his rear legs (but also was otherwise healthy and happy, and not in pain) and sometimes had trouble holding it in when we helped him outside. I bought the "diaper" at Petsmart and it helped. It is denim and velcros on the sides, you can buy the pads to put inside.

Believe it or not it came in handy later on when my pup had two estrus cycles (periods) despite being scheduled for spay. She wore it then, too. ;)

I have used the denim diapers as well as "Pull Ups". With "Pull Ups" we just cut a hole in the tale. We use them all the time.

Why would this be a flame-worthy topic?

The other options would be to have a house that smells like dog pee, or to make the dog stay outside all the time, which I really don't want to do.

She used to stay on our enclosed porch, but in the last few months she has just wanted to stay inside, near the family.

So for those of you that use diapers, does your dog try to take them off?

?

For some; "the other option" would be to send the doggie to the Rainbow Bridge. I had a neighbor who sent her cat to the "bridge" because she had worms. :confused3 :sad2:

I have a male that is getting older that I use "Pull Ups" to keep him from marking. I just turn it sideways like a cumberbun. He does not try to take it off. He did try to slide it down so I hook it thru his harness and then I make sure the important areas are covered.

My female has come into heat a few times and I have used the denim diapers for her. She has not tried to remove it.

Love the toe nails!

I am trying to decide how a cat would react to to the prissy pants. :)

My cats are declawed, but not de-teethed. I could just picture them going for my jugular vein. Fergie has a look that can only be deciphered as "In your sleep, babe!!"
