DHS Sorcerer's Hat to be removed

I think I need to invest in good chains and locks. DD12 wants to chain herself to the hat to keep them from tearing it down, and if they take GMR, DD29 and I will need them!

We are locals and we've become good friends with a local Imagineer who works here (of course, I can't name this person). Our kids go to the same school.

This person confirmed to me just a few days ago that the hat removal is true. This person was unsure of when it was going to be announced, but said it was true that it will be removed. I kinda had to squeeze the info out of them.

I know a lot of people on here say "name your source" and all of that, so you can chose to believe or not believe me if you want, but I am just stating that this person is a mid-level Imagineer who has worked for Disney (in DL and WDW) for over a decade.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Exactly. They are getting rid of the hat, but gotta leave the stage up as a bigger eyesore, so they can still have really bad cover bands blast R-O-C-K in the USA at volume 11? Unless they want to bring back the Frozen morning show and need the stage for that? This is why they should just shut down DHS completely for 2 years and do a complete refurb, instead of likely dragging out the changes for the better part of a decade.

The Stage also comes down. It's a temporary structure and is always removed for a few weeks each year to qualify as "temporary."

We liked the Hat - Sorcerer Mickey is DD's favorite character and DHS has been her "home" park. At least the DHS Hat was much better than the Hat at ASMo... we stayed in the Fantasia building there specifically because we had to walk "through the Hat" each day! :)

I have the locks, you bring the chain.

If it is still there in December, I will do what I can to make them keep it.

Sorry most everyone else, I love the hat. Sorcerer Mickey was my mom's favorite character. Whenever we are at the Studios we get a picture with the hat, in memory of Mom.

I hope they move it somewhere else, rather then just taking it down.

No tomatoes from me- I like the hat too! I will miss it. If the stage is staying, I wish the hat would stay too as the stage by itself would be really ugly, but I have a feeling if the hat goes the state will go too. Sounds like they want to make it more like California Adventure. I will miss the Great Movie Ride if that goes too.

I can't see them getting rid of the stage - With Frozen and SWW they've developed a pretty good model of how to showcase events there at DHS (similar to Cinderella's castle at MK). If anything I'd see them build a better centerpiece that combines a stage.

Also, keeping "Hollywood" in the park's title while turning the park into one that showcases the other Disney properties (Pixar, Star Wars and eventually Marvel) doesn't really make sense - Especially if they're going to axe the GMR. Hollywood is almost an anachronism for the entertainment industry today. Adventure Park comes to mind but is too reminiscent of Islands of Adventure.

I thought the sorcerer's hat was cool but it always seemed out of place in the park. Here's an art-deco 1930s style street that invokes the golden era of hollywood movies that leads to... a sorcerer's hat, beyond which lies... replicas of hollywood studios... wait wha?!

This is definitely the start of the whole re-imagining of DHS. I say in about 5-7 years time, this whole park will be completely different from what it is like today.
I hope so! DHS needs an overhaul.
Its the one park we are just fine skipping. If we have time we drop in but its is not on our must do list.

They will send it to the farm. It will be happy. It will be able to play with the Maelstrom boats. Don't worry.

I can see it now. I'll be driving down Sherberth, and there it will be. :)

I call the hat ugly, and yes, I don't like it, but I really think it's about where it is and not what it is. It just seems to destroy the beauty of the art deco style - as someone else mentioned.

I'm in love with art deco, so this big, blue, glittery hat just always bothered me.

I don't really care if the hat stays or goes. But it does occur to me that the only annoucements we hear are things that are going away.

Are they closing the park, one piece at a time???:confused3

Okay, I don't really believe that. But they could at least tell us what is coming in 5 years. popcorn::

Avatarland is still on...right!?!:sad2:

Am I correct that the hat was originally intended to be temporary, like the wand at Epcot and the frosting on the castle, as a part of an anniversary, and then they just decided to keep it up?

CMs were told weeks ago it was leaving so I don't think this news is a surprise.

I LOVED that time, back when it was all about movies and television!! I sure wish they would bring that back again and allow the view to be of the Chinese Theater, but I heard rumor that the GMR will go away in 3 years. The rumor said that only reason they are keeping it it because they have special events booked inside the GMR for the next 3 years. I love that ride, although it could use a refurb and add some new scenes and movies clips at the end.

Somebody needs to decide on what the true theme is going to be for this park and make it happen. It's just sad that it has become this hodge-podge of different things. It's like the island of misfit toys!!

I'm one of the few who like the hat, but NOT where it is.... Will be interesting to see what if anything replaces it... kinda hoping for that view of the theatre unobstructed when I go in January :)

I agree with this. The hat is fine, but it is in a bad location. The surrounding area wasn't designed around it being there. If it is to remain the park symbol it should be elevated somehow.

I'm not sure I believe this. They've got too much HS merchandise with the hat still on it to get rid of.

I'll believe it when all the "Four Parks One World" crap goes on clearance.

This park has and always will be MGM studios to me ...never was a fan of that hat...I don't think I would have an issue with it if it was placed somewhere else where the theme fits...just seems out of place... wholeheartedly agree this park is having an identity crisis :headache:
