DHS Sorcerer's Hat to be removed

I'm not sure I believe this. They've got too much HS merchandise with the hat still on it to get rid of.

I'll believe it when all the "Four Parks One World" crap goes on clearance.

The hat been removed from all merchandise for 2 years now, DDG was given orders in late 2012 to no longer include it.

They sold a limited edition Maelstrom t-shirt a month before closing the attraction.

It's still on a few things.

Funny, because after you mentioned this, I had to really think about it. I tend to gloss over a lot of the merchandise now a days.

They sold a limited edition Maelstrom t-shirt a month before closing the attraction.

I firmly believe that was done on purpose.
Which, is probably your point. :)

I heard they were replacing it with a mock-up of an x-wing fighter. The golf ball at Epcot will be replaced with a life size replica of the death star. Eventually Illuminations and F! will be replaced by a real-life laser battle between DHS and Epcot. Who said imagineering is dead?
:cool1:

latest rumor is they will replace the hat with an Ultron statue.

Which was done after many reports were that Maelstrom was about to get axed. The writing was on the wall, so they used our nostalgia of the ride to push a merchandise money grab on us. It worked. I bought one knowing I'd never get to ride again (Even though I only liked the ride) as homage to it.

Maybe they could pull a Wynn, convert the Epcot sphere into the death star and then have it laser the sorcerer's hat at which point it explodes as part of the demolition.

Jim Hill said the name was going to change to Disney Hollywood Adventure.

But "Disney's Hollywoodland Kingdom" rolls off of the tongue so much better ;)

I think they should take a page from EPCOT instead. Disney's Hollywood Studios of Yesterday, or HWSOY

Can someone tell me when the hat is slated to be taken away? I'm sad that I already know it won't be there when we get there next October... I always loved the hat and Sorceror's Apprentice :(

And it will sell like crazy. Anything disappearing - people scoop that stuff up. Was there three trips in Aug and Sept and there wasn't a Malestrom pin to be found anywhere.

Since this is still a rumor, no.

Disney's Hollywood Adventure makes perfect sense for the name. With the rumored expansion to Pixar Place, it's the counterpart to Disney's California Adventure.

This is interesting. Every year we go to WDW, I get the same kind of magnet - it's a soft one, usually blue background, with the year and various characters on it, and it sometimes will have the four park icons. I was noticing that my 2014 magnet had the Earful Tower and not the hat as the icon for the Studios and wondered why that was. Maybe now I know.

I liked the water tower with the Mickey ears. Wasn't that supposed to be the "symbol" for MGM Studios the first few years?

Me too! Miss the name MGM also...

Nothing at Disney is ever in stone until it actually happens ..... but I just contacted the CM I know that told me a month ago it was leaving and asked for a date. They were told by the end of the year.
