DHS Sorcerer's Hat to be removed

(Looks right, looks left, then ducks down, out of the way of the tomatoes.)

I like the hat and wish it would stay.

I know I'm in the minority, but I like the hat. I don't care one way or another if they remove/demolish/move it, but I like it.

I'll join the minority ranks of people who like the hat. Sorcerer Mickey has always been my favorite and I love my pics in front of his hat.

However if this is all in the name of a major DHS overhaul, I'll take it.

I don't mind the hat, but prefer what's behind it.

I think it was Jim Hill who said the hat was going, but that the facade of the theater was also going to be changing. I don't remember what he said it was changing to??

The reason the hat was placed there was already alluded to, the theater owners wanted money since it was the main focal point of the park and Disney said "no way". So they put the hat up to hide the theater.

Not sure what the point is in taking down the hat right now since it's covered up by a stage. They can't really remove the stage because they need it for an entertainment starved park. They are really in a pickle until they get the new Pixar area and Star Wars land built.

This is definitely the start of the whole re-imagining of DHS, Intercot also reporting that the Jack Sparrow attraction is leaving too and that possibly the Great Movie Ride will also be the next big attraction to be gone. I say in about 5-7 years time, this whole park will be completely different from what it is like today.

Jim Hill said the name was going to change to Disney Hollywood Adventure.

I liked the water tower with the Mickey ears. Wasn't that supposed to be the "symbol" for MGM Studios the first few years?

Exactly. They are getting rid of the hat, but gotta leave the stage up as a bigger eyesore, so they can still have really bad cover bands blast R-O-C-K in the USA at volume 11? Unless they want to bring back the Frozen morning show and need the stage for that?

This is why they should just shut down DHS completely for 2 years and do a complete refurb, instead of likely dragging out the changes for the better part of a decade.

I hope they don't close GMR. :( I agree it needs to be updated BADLY, but I really enjoy that ride.

I would go through some serious therapy worth TofT withdrawal if that happened, but it's crossed my mind as well.

I do hope that it is replaced with some other icon, though. I like that each park has one signature emblem and photo op. And even though I'm dying for some major Star Wars presence, I wouldn't want the icon to be so theme-specific.

No tomatoes from me- I like the hat too! I will miss it. If the stage is staying, I wish the hat would stay too as the stage by itself would be really ugly, but I have a feeling if the hat goes the stage will go too. Sounds like they want to make it more like California Adventure as the remodel there seems to be very well liked. California Adventure's entertainment acts are on the ground, not on stage, so I can see them doing that. They basically drive a vehicle in and the entertainers jump off and start singing and dancing. I will miss the Great Movie Ride if that goes too.

You could certainly be right, and I hope so, but with some favorites remaining I hope! However, my first reaction was that 5-7 years in "Disney time" sounds awfully short to accomplish this!

We never went pre-hat, so don't really care if it were to stay...it is an interesting piece, but I never thought it was right as an icon when compared to the other three...and the water tower was worse...especially since it is the Warner Bros. Studio that is most associated with an iconic water tower on the studio lot.

The theater...that isn't a good icon either, especially since it isn't Disney exclusive, or even Disney owned.

What should be there? That's where I come up blank.
