So we have until early April to see what is going on in the Catastrophe Canyon area, then they shut down LMA, and the spot to view what is going on. Should be obvious if the grandstand for LMA starts to be deconstructed.
It's pretty minor, and still very early, but it's good to see the Demolition, regardless of the intent of the area. As we all know, they wouldn't be bothered with taking it down, unless they intend to use the space for something in the near future.
I still find it interesting that this area is needed for "staging". What are they using for staging for AvatarLand. What did they use for staging for New FantasyLand?

What has Disney officially confirmed about Star Wars land at DHS?
Avatar has a lot of backstage areas to work with for staging.

New fantasyland was a little different especially because it was done in phases.

For FLE, the mine train area was used for staging since it didn't start construction until well into the project. DHS is probably going to need a good bit of staging are since they are building two new lands and rumors of at least one if not two new parking garages. The park also is surrounded by wetlands making it harder to carve out a staging area near the park.

With all that said, I am not convinced that they "need" all this space for staging, I think some of this was convenient way to cut costs.

Iger said the original plans for the park expansions have been tweaked

Any idea what this means in relation to Star Wars area? Are they already reducing the area or cutting stuff due to cost overruns in Shanghai?

I haven't heard of anything substantial being changed for the plans for Star Wars.

Where did this quote come from? Just curious. I've been watching for ANY nugget I can get!

There was ample backstage areas for staging NFL. The old RCFD fire station is one small area that was used. You also have the storage lot at Pluto Park and then the MK cast parking / DU parking areas. At AK, there is also ample backstage areas that make staging really easy. At Studios, there is not a lot of space available, so using CC and LMA makes sense.

Well... there isn't a boat ride...

Basically all we know for sure is two rides, shopping area, food areas.

So basically we know there will be a star wars land, but Disney never defined the build location. Did the 14 acres thing come from an official source?
Just trying to figure out what we know, vs what has been built up from internet speculation and hard rumors.

Yes 14 acres was part of the original announcement. We know it will take up that much space and we have a vague notiona about the size of the ride buildings from various bits of art. But no, they haven't confirmed where it's going to be.

Most of the speculation has centered around Echo Lake/Indiana Jones/Star Tours and out into the parking lots (at the very least Disney drew up a plan for that) but there have been some mutterings about the LMA area. No one knows for sure. Such is the nature of rumors.

It seems to me, if you connect the dots. That Star Wars Land is most likely going in to the LMA area that was being discussed as phase 3. With phase 3 being shelved. The Expansion into Echo Lake/Indy Jones area and the parking lot look like they are no longer viable. All the clearing of the back corner adds up to the exact space needed for Star Wars. They could easily build a walkway going from Jedi Academy around the back of Star Tours to take you to the Star Wars Land and use a little of that road. This way Star Tours is kind of the gateway for that Entrance.

Star Wars won't be going where LMA is.

Current speculation is that it's neither, but will act as a staging area for construction on those two projects. It would then be available for the semi-mythical Phase 3.

That is an awful lot of space for Staging Area and saving of space for some distant and semi-mythical phase 3.

On the "map", Blue and Purple go away... Red becomes Phase II.

That quote probably means cuts in the plans after Star Wars Land. With Star Wars expansion a possibility in the distant future.

The most logical interpretation of these changes would be Star Wars going in LMA. Streets of America space. It would be similar to the DisneyLand expansion too.

As far as I know phase 3 has not been shelved. It is supposed to be still on but might not be as large.

If you look at what is closing. That looks like a nice healthy space for a Star Wars Land to me. That wouldn't need an expansion in to the parking lot. Future "phase 3" could end up in a parking lot, or take over echo lake or replace Indy Jones, but it sure doesn't look like Star Wars will at this point.
You can see where the road provides ample room to create a Star Wars corridor into that space from Star Tours.

It's been said that plans are in flux right now and changing. They haven't broke ground yet so things very well could've changed. I've just been reporting what I've seen/heard.

Whether you liked those aspects of the park, that is a significant amount of real estate to close down. The experience at DHS will be less for many years.

At least the Toy Story additions are less intrusive. There is still no excuse for closing the Animation Academy though.
