I get what you're saying but personally and I don't think I'm alone I would hate that. Epcot shouldn't be a villain park.

Yes, but it shouldn't be what it is, either. If it's way too expensive to have a future world without corporate sponsors (and this seems to be a signal Disney is sending by the closure and disuse of so much of it), they have to make a decision on changing its whole concept or doing something, vs letting it rot ala the Simpson's version of the 1982 World's Fair...

And savable things could be moved - the Seas (at least the animals) to Animal Kingdom for one...

I haven't walked a mile in their shoes or anything ... but I think that Dis execs could find sponsors if they really wanted to.

It would require them to travel extensively outside of the Burbank-Beverly Hill corridor, and also to learn a lot about fields and disciplines other than their own balance sheet, share price and stock option portfolio.

If there's a problem, it might be that potential corporate sponrsors are also so obsessively focused on their current quarterly results that they can't conceive of a 10 year commitment to a marketing strategy ... no matter how many millions of well heeled customers will literally line up to see it.

I often wonder what the current sponsors get out of their affiliation with Disney. A sign with the corporate logo (sometimes not noticeable) on a building wouldn't seem to help much with name brand recognition. And its pretty far removed from the point in time that a potential customer might actually be considering a product from that sponsor.

Of the current sponsors, probably Coke has the best reason because they also get the concession for soft drinks. Perhaps GM as well because they get to supply the vehicles. Not sure what special benefits the others get out of the association.

I don't disagree but I don't think it would be that hard to make some fixes. Obviously you aren't going to keep up future world as future things but you could show off current tech. Innoventions becomes a tech expo of sorts, if you had the marvel rights you could make it a stark expo. Imagination just need an update and it's good again, so does universe of energy update it and it's good again. I just think villains is too crazy of a theme for a park called Epcot.

It wouldn't be called EPCOT anymore...if Disney's MGM Studios can be on its 2nd name change and now a fully changed concept, no reason EPCOT can't, too...

I just don't see that happening. I almost think changing the theme and name is too much work and will cost more in the long run. They don't need to change test track, the land pavilion, mission space, the seas, SSE. If you go to a villains theme you have to change all of that. That is way more money than Disney wants to spend guaranteed.

Also can we stop this off topic discussion please this is the DHS construction thread. Thanks in advance.

Well there's a sales aspect to it, usually in the post-show. Like the car showroom at Test Track, the Siemens product displays, and so on. The Energy Adventure (I gather) is or was sponsored by an oil company as "feel good" marketing, as in, hey we respect the environment too and we're investing in alternatives to oil.

It's a matter of imagination, really (dare I say). You're a large corporation, you have a certain presence in the world, there are always millions more potential customers that you haven't reached yet. Do you think that facebook ads (stealthy or otherwise) are really the last word in marketing? If you think you're a great corporate citizen with great products (and who doesn't) then why couldn't you expand your conception of marketing to tell a story about the world, about humans or about technology? And how your products fit in to that story. To say, "No we're not into the human interest angle," is to say, "Yeah we really just make and sell stuff and we don't see ourselves as part of the human family with dreams and imagination."

Any Disney exec who can't figure out how to revitalize Epcot with an approach such as this is not worthy to be running a large and diversified entertainment company.

The first construction permit for the new ramps and entrance to the parking area at DHS was filed. This single ramp does not have an expiration date so it should be completed in one years time.

Totally disagree with you on Lord of the Rings, the characters are so inviting and the battle of good vs. Evil is so well done, Tolkien is an incredible author, and if done well, the world of inner earth could be spectacular in a theme park environment. I agree on Pirates, as to Frozen...meh, it is hugely popular with young girls which is a big target area for Disney.

Indeed Lord of the Rings may be one of the few properties that has greater depth and a longer lasting fandom than Star Wars. Whether that fandom converts to theme park tourists may be an open question, but the but the scale of the Middle-Earth franchise should not be dismissed lightly. Lord of the Rings alone is the fourth most read book in the world. The collective books cover thousands of years and hundreds of characters and the property sustained merchandise sales for decades before the movies were even released.

Of course it's also locked up in legal disputes so... all hypothetical really.

So is One Man's Dream staying? I thought it was going away too but I see it still on all the maps and listed on the site still?

Interesting that ... despite delaying the planning/announcement of the new Star Wars land for a couple of years, allegedly because of "wanting to wait for the new movies" ... in the current Star Wars show, except for BB-8 new characters are nowhere to be found. Judging from this photo anyways.

I will say this: you can very seldom believe anything that Disney says about the reasons for building, scheduling, fixing, or on the other hand not building, delaying, or not fixing something.

Well you have Kylo Ren meeting at Launch Bay, BB-8 in the stage show, and Captain Phasma in the storm trooper march and the stage show. Those three are from the new movie.

The storm troopers on the right are from Ep 7 also behind them is Captain Phasma.

Then you have C3P0, R2D2, Chewy who were in EP4-7

Other than Kylo I am not sure what other character in costume there could be from Ep7.

Also Darth Maul is alive and will be a major character on Rebels season 3 so I am sure that Disney really wants to play him up right now.

...Also Vader and the older storm troopers will be in Rogue 1 along with a rumored appearance by Boba Fett so really all those characters are or will be in movies/tv shows within +/- 6mo of right now.

I think the delay with the announcement has more to do with limited Disney Park cash flow due to the Shanghai park.

Any rumors as to what will happen to the HISTK playground? Seemed like an easy refurb for a Bugs Life if they can just flip the entrance to be off of Pixar Place.
