Just got email from Spirit Air. They are starting 5 new non stop cities from DFW (filling void from AirTran).

MCO one of them. Priced out 3 Apr to 10 Apr. Was $49 per person including tax. ROUND TRIP!!!!!

Spirit nothing special, but have flown to Vegas. If you want to get there CHEAP they will do that!

You will be charged to check a bag, or if you want to carry on, there is a fee for that too. Be sure to take that in to account when you price these out.

Oh I Know. But you pay for a bag on almost all airlines so that's a wash. Your bag is free as long as it fits under the seat (which ours always does). At $45 RT it's tough to beat. Definitely no luxuries - but if you need to get there cheap it works.

There is also a ticketing charge, unless you buy your tickets in person. It is up to $34 round-trip.

OP - I understand and join in your excitement! I fly Spirit from ACY...why, because even with the fees it is usually much cheaper thank Continental, southwest, airtran, etc... and a much easier airport to navigate for me. No frills, but for a 2 hour flight - I'm OK with that ;)

Congrats on the great deal and enjoy your trip - also thanks for sharing the good news/fares for others to possibly take advantage of. That's what these boards are about.

I was just reading the Spirit Air web page.
Carry on bag: 20-40 each way (depends on a few factors)
First checked bag: 18-38 each way (depends on a few factors---SW gives you two free checked bags ,Jet Blue-first bag free).

Booking fee - 10.00 each way per pax.
Pax usage fee - 8.99-16.99 per pax each way.
Charge for agent printing boarding passes - 5.00 per pass (starting 1/2012)
Charge for printing boarding passes at kiosk-2.00 per pass (starting 6/2012)

Snacks - 1.00-10.00
Drinks - 1.00-15.00

The fare sounds great until you get into all these fees, and forget the modification fees.
Seat assignments can range from free to 199.00.

I never get too excited about the constant stream of cheap fares that Spirit lists until I go in, pick flights and look at the "total cost". THEN, if it's still cheap, I may consider it (of course, you have to then add the baggage fees).

The other day I looked at a flight to Orlando--it showed $34/one way, but by the time you did the RT and added in the fees it was $155!

My point exactly!!!

I have never been charged for carryon.

I have never been charged for the ablity to use the online system to book my ticket

I am normally not charged for seat assignments.

I have never been charged for soft drinks or water

Of course I have never flown Spirit and won't! :rotfl:

Not sure how/why this has become a Spirit bashing...but - we are all aware of the policies of this airline - they FEE you to DEATH! But for sales like the OP posted $49 RT including taxes, even with fees I am sure it is still cheaper than all the other airlines out there. Sometimes specials like that are too hard to pass up! OP is not asking anyone to fly Spirit was just conveying the message. I guess the saying "don't shoot the messenger" really does apply here! :) ;)

I'd be THRILLED to fly on Spirit if they would come to Bloomington, Illinois, and fly the nonstop to MCO that Airtran is no longer going to offer. :( :thumbsup2

Congrats, OP, on the good fare and thank you for sharing.

Some, infrequent, posters don't even know most airlines charge for checked bags. Not everyone is aware of some of Spirit's policies. Spirit charges a "booking" fee. Spirit charges for a "bin bag". Spirit charges an overweight fee for any bag over 40lbs, industry standard is 50lbs.

Quoting a fare of $49 is very misleading to a passenger who doesn't understand how Spirit operates. Who doesn't read the "fine print".

JMO but there shouldn't be a single Spirit sale post without making sure DIS members understand there final cost will be a lot more then the fare initially displayed.

Good point for sure - still the deal OP listed was worth checking out - they do run good sales, even with the fees. But I agree one needs to be a cautious shopper with Spirit. :thumbsup2
